Avoid this dump at all costs!. My companion and I traveled from Brooklyn because he had seen the web page for this establishment online and thought that it looked like something that we should check out, so off we went with high hopes for a satisfying experience. Upon our arrival, we were greeted courteously and seated promptly. The buffet looked appetizing with the majority of dishes being chicken dishes, but there was no white meat chicken to be found and this annoyed me, because I am not a dark meat eater as a rule. I tried to eat some chicken, but it was so dark that I wondered if it was really chicken or instead, some mystery meat of unknown origin. Despite that fact, the food was seasoned well. The yellow dal was tasty as were the condiment sauces. I ordered a soda and it was watered down. The restroom was a mess, very poorly maintained. There was one dessert offering, rice pudding, which my dining companion deemed as pasty and not edible. (And since he likes to end his Indian meals with rice pudding, we ended up going elsewhere for it.) We asked for the bill and paid, handing it to one of the waiters. We left, and as we were halfway down the block, we heard someone calling out - it was a staff member from the place. We had no idea what he wanted - and we waited for him to come to us. We were shocked to hear him accusing us of leaving without paying! He grilled us and we insisted that we paid, while he insisted that we did not. I was most humiliated, indeed, and my companion was getting rather mad. Finally, after describing who we gave the money to, the man walked away. What nerve! We will NEVER return there again! There is no excuse for such rude and shabby treatment! Indian Taj is not worth a trip from anywhere - They should be ashamed! Save your money and go to Jackson Diner (several doors down) instead. I didn't like that place either when we tried it several years ago, but at least they don't abuse their customers!

Best buffet in Jackson Heights. When I first moved here, I tried all the restaurants along 74th St multiple times. This one became my favorite and has NEVER disapointed me. In fact, I go there once a week and when I have guests who like Indian, this is the spot I take them to. The selection is always great. They rotate their dishes every so often, so there is some variety depending on the time of day and day of the week, but my favorite dishes are always chicken chili, the cauliflower with potatoes, and the eggplant. The only thing I would complain about is their choice of Jello for dessert every so often (!?) All their other desserts are good.

Best Palaak Paneer!. This place beats Jackson Diner hands down - everybody got on that bandwagon way too quickly and in my opinion, without merit. Indian Taj has the best buffet - food is always fresh and delicious. I have yet to have a bad dining experience there. Not to mention that the price and selection is unbeatable. Service is a little lacking - but you can get over that pretty quickly. If you are looking for inexpensive delicious Indian food - definitely give this place a try. Also, if the Palaak Paneer is not part of the buffet - order a small portion - it's worth it!

EXTRAgreat buffet in Jackson Heights!. Okay, so we all know Jackson Heights has great Indian food, and that every restaurant has a really big buffet. I've been to several of them, including the better-known Jackson Diner. However, Indian Taj really stands out. For one thing, it's a couple dollars cheaper and MUCH less crowded, which is always a bonus. But really, the main reason to go here is the food. Each time I've been here, I've gotten to try something new and unusual, though they do have the ubiquitous makhani, tandoori and curry. Their naan is brought fresh to your table. The palak paneer and tawa chicken are the best I've had ANYWHERE. I haven't been back to the Jackson Diner since I found this place - it's really THAT good!

User review by pr3ti. We went to Indian Taj on Monday after the fireworks, even though it was late and almost closing time the people there were very pleasent and didn't mind our crowd of 8 people just bursting in for the buffet. There were so many dishes to choose from, my favorite was the palak paneer and the fresh bread and dessert. The food was spectacular as the fireworks!!!

Editorial Review. Local destination for inexpensive 15-dish lunch and dinner buffets alongside full bar offerings and more.
