In Short
This spacious Indian restaurant in Queens' Jackson Heights enjoys great popularity among natives and non-natives alike, and not just because it's right by the subway: its welcoming, colorful main dining room is the focus of many pilgrimages to Queens from Manhattan. Items like spicy masala dosa, a host of lamb and goat entrees, and fried appetizers like samosas and pakoras are complemented by milder southern Indian dishes and refreshing lassis.

They don’t deserve a star at all. They deserve to be shut down. Wasted money. I should have gone to McDonalds for dinner. I went there Saturday evening hoping for some good Indian food with family. I was wrong, and embarrassed, to bring my family there. It was so bad I don’t know where to begin in this post. The service was horrible. The food was horrible. Everything was a big disappointment. Let’s just say this was the worst service ever. Even worse than Chinatown service if you people know what I mean. (i.e. pushy in ordering, no recommendations on dishes when requested by us (trust me, nothing there was good), not friendly, never smiled until we paid the bill, took forever to get more napkins, charged us extra for roti we never ordered, dishes were not made to order, and much more). As for the food, a few of my family members (elders and toddlers) can not eat spicy food. I specifically requested the waiter to have those dishes be mild. The waiter just nodded his head, so I assumed he understood and made a mental note. When the food came, everything was spicy. My nephew couldn’t eat anything but white rice the whole night. Poor kid!!! What really got me upset was when we requested a booster seat for my three year nephew. The waiter said they do not have any. Right there, I was already skeptical about this restaurant. What restaurant doesn’t have booster seats!!!!! I was right about it. When we were about to pay the bill, I see 5 booster seats against the wall. We didn’t see it from the beginning because the restaurant lighting was dim.

Went there for my Dad’s Birthday and is one of the worst restaurant ever. The waiter was pushy with ordering the starters and main course he constantly came over asking us are we ready every 2 to 3 minutes. It felt like he was trying to push us out for the next batch of customer, even through the restaurant was half full between 6:00pm – 8:00pm. The bathroom was filthy and is at the point of unusable. I would consider it as an hazardous condition, and my wife told me the same thing about the ladies room. The place only takes cash and if you have more than 5 people there is the mandatory gratuity, pretty much got us committed to the horrible service. The main course were all delivered at separate times and when they mess up serving the order they try to switch it with no concern with the other orders that was eaten. There was no attempt to satisfy the customer. Also when ask for recommendation the waiter replied by saying “everything is good,” what the hell kind of response is that. Only thing positive is the food is authentic. I will never go back again, and I will deter those who are planning to go. Definitely did not get my monies worth and someone should look into the cash only operation.

On a recent visit in mid Jan-09, my wife and I had an experience similar to others on this forum. Even though the restaurant was nearly empty, we had slow and unresponsive service. My wife, who is from India, ordered for both of us, and received surly and nearly hostile behavior from the waiter. He then brought us a plate of papad. I saw a c0ckr0ach crawling all over it. And again, even though there were few other diners, it took us over 2 minutes to get someone to come back to our table. The r0ach was still running all over the food. He just flicked it away and stared at us with an unfriendly "what else do you expect me to do?" expression. He didn't express any regret or even offer to replace the food. I went up to everybody at the main desk asking to speak to the manager, but nobody would admit to being that person. Needless to say, this was our last visit to this unfriendly and unsanitary restaurant.
