Beware 2009
by ben2550
This place is making the local news this summer and there's really nothing good reported. There's a blog out on the area (rockawaypark.blogspot) that covers things that could really make your stay here memorable but not in the best way. I checked the place out at the beginning of June 2009 and asked some people around if anything I've read was true and not one person denied anything. So it's not a place to go to even if you're looking to save a couple of dollars. I suggest reading the blog and if you can, read the letters in their local paper The Wave. I gave one star in the rating only because I had to give a rating. Otherwise it would have to give it a negative 5 stars. It's just not safe.
- Pros: Walking distance to beach
- Cons: clientelle and staff
Inexpensive getaway

Don't expect this place to be a 5 star hotel. This place is for those on a budget, and looking for cheap place to stay for an over-nighter,or weekly stay. The place is pretty old,and I think it's actually a landmark building, probably dating back to the 1940s. The rooms vary in size, and not all rooms have bathrooms. Each floor has 2 bathrooms. One with a shower and toilet, and one with just a toilet. There's also a microwave on each floor if you choose to bring food that needs to be heated up.
Some rooms have cable TV. You have to be extremly lucky to get one. And if you do, you have to hope that you actually get a TV that works, cuz most are old.And when I mean old,I'm talking about when wireless remote controls where a luxury, like 42" flat screen TVs are today, almost.
If you choose this hotel in the summertime, beware of when the weather is hot.The rooms do NOT have air conditioning. But some rooms have window fans, and all have ceiling fans. In winter, the heat does work pretty good. There is a plus to this hotel though...it's close to the beach, and if you have a car,you do get assigned parking right next to the hotel in a lot, and don't have to worry about searching for a parking spot for hours on end.
All in all, if your just looking for a place to crash for the night, and could do without the amenities of a 5 star hotel, then the Rockaway Park Hotel will suit your need(s). ONE LAST THING........if you are going in the summetime, CALL AND MAKE RESERVATIONS EARLY! Believe it or not,all the rooms do get full during this time, especially on the weekends.Best time to call is after 11am. The place may not be the greatest, but the people running it,will make you feel right at home.
- Pros: Friendly staff,family owned,close to the beach,guaranteed parking,close to public transportation
- Cons: After seeing the room, and the bathrooms, you might have to look out the window,or look at your cellphone to make sure your in the correct year your in before you walked into the place.
