Editorial Review for Bethpage State Park – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
Designed by A.W. Tillinghast (the man behind Winged Foot and Baltusrol) in 1936, the Black Course at Bethpage was the first public golf course to host the U.S. Open. The course has long been recognized as a stiff test for any golfer, but four alternate courses, all 18-holers, welcome the less experienced. Visitors to the park can also indulge themselves with polo, biking, hiking, riding horses, tennis courts, playgrounds, cross-country skiing and sledding.
