Alphabet City has been going Eliza Doolittle on us lately, and we're falling for it like Henry Higgins. The neighborhood's heroin-chic reputation fades to memory as you sidle into a booth at Evelyn Drinkery. The exposed brick and black walnut bar create a moody backdrop for punches, “spirited phosphates,” cocktails, egg creams, and homemade sodas. For those less willing to hit the strong sauce, there are classic beers on tap and a well-rounded, albeit short, wine list. Just be careful, a few too many phosphates and that cockney accent will make a triumphant return.
