Editorial Review for Ruby Falls – by Melissa Jeffries
The Cave
While attempting to excavate a cave within Lookout Mountain, explorers discovered the stalagmite-filled cavern that leads to Ruby Falls. Since the 1930s, millions have taken the hour-long tour, squeezing through stone pathways littered with signs pointing out stones resembling everything from bacon to a donkey's ass to an elephant's foot. The cave climax is, of course, the falls. Once visitors approach the main attraction, all lights go out and a booming voice introduces Ruby Falls as if it were the latest rock star. Lights flash in sync to a soundtrack of violins--creating a surreal, but beautiful, experience.
The Area
In a successful attempt to lure travelers in for the weekend, rather than the day, Lookout Mountain offers several attractions. Don't miss Rock City, Lookout Mountain's main draw, and the truly impressive Tennessee Aquarium. The Incline Railway and the Battles for Chattanooga Museum are also nearby.

Insider Tips
Shoot FastThe lights are only on the falls for a few minutes, and they turn off without warning, so take a snapshot quickly.
Slippery When WetMuch of the cave is slippery and not easily managed by older or handicapped guests.
