Having gone once before- we endured two hours of child-unfriendly "security" staff telling kids not to touch the glass or dividers between the kids and the subjects- I vowed never to return. However, Happy Feet was being viewed, and through traffic sleet and rain we (5 and 8yr old in tow) tried it again. We arrived 10 minutes late and again, the rough security staff who act more like militant militia soldiers than friendly curators, snapped we couldn't buy tickets for the kids movie anymore. Then he changed it and said it was sold out. Then he insisted we purchase tickets to see the museum while he proceeded to count them out, and got upset when we said we only came for the movie. Who is managing the customer service? An ex militant, or a membership director? NYHall of Science gets my membership and vote!
Pros: It has some fun workshops for kids
Cons: It isn't a place for kids, staff was recruited from ex militias and it is an unfriendly place, don't be late.

we are so lucky to have this in astoria! you could spend days here doing all the interactive stuff (make-your-own flipbook, cartoon, use the bluescreen and watch yourself on screen, do voiceovers to Wizard of Oz, Babe ...). the museum's really interesting, gives you insight into the technical aspects of moviemaking, but also allows plenty of time for the fun stuff, with movie clips, props & costumes, actor/actress anecdotes. so great, can't recommend it highly enough. my parents came here too and had a great time, so it's fun for ALL ages! the films they show here (free with admission) are good too. so much fun!
Pros: interactive,, totally fun,, instructive

A great collection of artifacts about movies and television can be found in this 3 floor building. Items for making those scary monsters, editing machines for voiceovers and sound effects. Many exhibits are hands-on displays and you will find vintage film featured. It was also fun to see the assortment of memorabilia that were once purchased and owned by movie and television fans as well as the collection of items that were actually used on those favorite movie and television shows

This was a pretty fun place. Lots of interactive exhibits that allow you to do movie voice-overs, edits,etc... They have 3 floors and it's pretty cool. Would recommend.
