Truly Amazing
by sharopooks
What can one say about this museum that hasn't already been said? This is an incredible place for anyone interested in art to visit. I moved to NYC in the 80s for college, I loved how whether visiting here for a school assignment, or w/ friends seeking an afternoon immersed in another world, I would always see something different at the Met. That hold true through today. One thing that had always helped me get the most out of Met visits is picking one or two departments/exhibits per person to see, then heading for those, allowing yourselves to be distracted along the way. If you go here without even a rough plan, you're sure to get tired out within the first several galleries in the front, LOL. We just visited recently to check out the Koons roof exhibit (terrific on a nice day, there's also a cool Rodin up there) then to see the Costume Institute's fun Superheroes exhibit, while wandering historic rooms that I had seen many times before displaying European decorative art & stumbling upon some modern paintings that we had never seen...it was a wonderful afternoon at the Met. I've never taken a tour here but I imagine if you're visiting from out of town & can only visit once, that maybe it's a good idea. OR, just pick a few galleries to see, meander towards them, & promise yourself you'll see other parts of the museum another day in your life. They do have a "suggested" admission ($20 for adults) & they request those visiting special exhibits pay the full amount. But if you're strapped for cash, there's no guilt in giving the several dollars you can spare (less than that I think would be slightly obnoxious but yet still allowed). From the moment you take in the impressive facade, ascend the massive stairs & enter the museum, until the time you leave, you will transport yourself to a spectacular world of art. Truly a must-see.
- Pros: An entire world of amazing art, "suggested" admission
- Cons: Not enough time to see it all, can get crowded

One of the best museums in the city. Had some of my favorite Warhol pieces on display. And always has wonderful limited engagement exhibits.

This museum is one of the best in the city. I have gone 4 times now and you lose yourself in knowledge and in the amazing art work. The funny part in all of this is I've always hated museums! This is a great place to get away from the madness and lose yourself in the art. I've spent hours here and not even realized it. I recommend this museum to anyone. Thanks for the getaway.
- Pros: inexpensive, great art

Amazing!
by GautamCity81
This is by far, the best museum in all of New York City. You cannot take a trip to the Big Apple and not make a stop at the Met. They have the coolest exhibits I have ever seen. Gotta go through the Ancient Egyptian exhibit first, they have a chunk of an actual pyramid in there and you can walk through it! Even can see some mummified bodies! Also, don't forget to check out the Armors and Weapons exhibit on the top floor, its jaw-dropping! Definitely check it out if you haven't. If you've been there, they always have new and temporary exhibits as well. So definitely worth coming back to.
- Pros: Best and coolest exhibits
- Cons: Too big to do in one day
Met Cashiers Defend themselves
by MetCASHIER02
I wish for once New Yorkers would own up to their actions. So you can pay a dollar or a penny to get in, that does not mean that you should come in and be smarmy to the cashiers and throw your money on the counter and snicker at us. It is extremely rude and degrading to the cashier who has probably done anywhere from 200-400 transactions before you and who just can't even stand to look at another dollar. I am sorry but it's not right how we get abused day after day. and your not helping New York if you pay $1 or a penny to get in, the Museum is in dire straights right now and it shows, if you come and there are several galleries closed well don't complain because that's what happens when you take advantage and pay a penny.
- Pros: everything

An art lover's dream
by acb723
The building itself is worth seeing- look up at the ceiling of the lobby as you walk in and I bet you'll agree that it is magnificent. And then of course they have an incredible collection of all kinds of art-everything from Ancient Egyptian artifacts to Medieval musical instruments to French Impressionist landscapes. I can't think of any other museum I've been to that is quite so diverse. Obviously, if you really love art you will most likely love this place, but even if you're not that into art, it is worth checking out if you are in New York. It's one of those landmarks that everyone should see at least once.
As great a museum as it is, there are some pitfalls: it can be very hard to navigate through, and I've never found the staff to be very friendly. If you can deal with those things, though, you'll really enjoy your visit.
- Pros: great collections, not too expensive (it's by donation), you'll probably find something new every time
- Cons: can be crowded, hard to navigate, staff is not very friendly or helpful
