Great Atmosphere

Went there with a friend when they had live flamenco, the place was packed but the manager was really great in finding us a spot within minutes. Staff is friendly, the tapas were very good a bit pricey. The Sangrias were amazing, really goo deal for a pitcher! The Flamenco dancers as well were great. Overall great experience.

Average...

I only went here once with my friend and I got a few tapas and were pretty happy with most of the dishes. The hot tapas weren't quite as large as we were expecting the, to be for the price--i mean tapas are supposed to be small plates but not microscopic!! But the taps we did get were pretty flavorful, but service was not as good as it should have been. I haven't been there at night, but I have heard at night it is pretty full with people, but as for tapas I would give it a try since spanish tapas are hard to find sometimes

Great Galician tapas!

Well, I was there yesterday night (Saturday) and I loved it! The food was super good, the flamenco was awesome and that Argentinian waiter that someone was bitching about in a previous review was hot!

The Spanish owner is also very nice and polite (and cute) and does everything he can to get you a table.

Great for casual fun night with groups

I love Tapas because you can try so many things on the menu! Went with a group of friends on Tuesday night and it was fun. The service is not great but its low key and great for a night out with friends.

Great food, great prices, lively environment

Give Xunta a break - you don't go for cheap eats and expect the place to be able to set you immediately. Xunta is about great food, great people and thinking about how much Sangria you can have instead of how long of a wait you've got. It is NYC - people wait for good food and after a good meal, I like to stay and drink and not have the maitre'd kick me out when I am still drinking (like some other restaurants in NY that I've been to). But once you do sit down, the Spanish fisherman theme is captivating! Sitting at the barrels by the window is my favorite. And the food? It's fabulous. You can eat tons, drink plenty and still walk home with a wallet that hasn't been unjustly emtied! Xunta has remained my favorite New York City restaurant for 5 years and I am doubting that will change. If you don't like crowds and prefer exorbant bills, this probably isn't the place for you.

• Cons: if you don't get there early - the wait can be long, but worth it

Very bad

Food very bad, the cheese taste at all kind food, it is a very bad organization, you have to wait for table and in the end the food is awful.Please don't go to near to the bar with the Argentinian bartender he can bite you

Miserable Experience

NOT RECOMMENDED. Last night I had dinner with four friends at Xunta. I had called earlier in the day to try to make a reservation, but they said they weren?t taking anymore and to just walk in. We arrived a little after 8:30 to learn it would be about 45 minutes for a table. We had a couple of rounds of drinks at the bar, as we watched people who were long finished with their meals keep their tables occupied, and empty tables being held for reservations that never arrived. Finally after an hour and a half we were seated at a table. A table with four chairs ? there were five of us. One person had to stand for 15 minutes until they found another table for us. They finally moved us to another table, but it was so close to the table next to us that I had to hold in my stomach just to get in. The food arrived fairly quickly, but wasn?t anything special. We asked for water for the table and got one glass to share. When the bill arrived I asked the waitress if they could help us with a round of drinks or something, she looked at me and said ?You do not have any right to ask that. We won?t take anything off.? Granted we chose to stay, but we spent a lot of money in their restaurant and they could have done a little something for the inconveniences. Service was awful and rude. Do NOT go here.

no, no, no!

first, the "tables" are barrels and the chairs are bar stools = you, hunched over, knees at the same height as the table. get ready for your back to hurt.

second, the decor is bizarre. i think they were trying to create an atmosphere but rather they ended up with a very strange, mismatched, dark, bar-like, garden-level space. fish nets on the walls. i think they had plastic, picnic-style on the fold-up tables in the back. enough said.

third, the food is mediocre at best. the bread is too dense, the olives are all the same (if i order olives, i expect them to mix it up a bit!), the bacon-wrapped dates are bland.

Authentic Experience

After living in Spain, I returned to New York with an appetite for tapas. I am frequently disappointed by restaurants with expensive entrees and fake ambience. Xunta takes me right back to Spain. The whole environment feels authentic. The food is terrific and appropriately priced for tapas. Wine can be a little pricey and service a little static, but Xunta is definitely the real deal. I love coming in at night for a glass of wine and datiles con tocino!

Ay que rico!! this place changed. Used to come here in 1999. Like everything else, things decompensate in time. Poor ambiance. Not authentic Spanish tapas. Just some greasy overpriced appetizers. Sangria was a joke! No fruit in it and just not good. Very disappointed! Happy hour was also a gimmick. For the few appetizers I had, I shouldnt have had to spend as much as i did. Oh well, you live and learn. I dont recommend this place at all. Try Sanchos restaurant third ave Bay ridge Brooklyn!
