Bryant Park Oldies
by collins785
Monday night Movies are great, come with a blanket cheese and wine
and just when it gets dark everyone suddenly start dancing and the movie
starts.
- Pros: Good movies great atmosphere
- Cons: must come early 1-2 hours before the show
This French classical-style urban oasis is much more than a charming back porch for the library.

Overview
Since 1884, the former Reservoir Square has borne the name of 19th-century poet and newspaperman William Cullen Bryant. Though not particularly large, the park is home to major NYC events. Fashion Week transforms the western oval into a tented runway that's become a biannual pilgrimage for all fashionistas; the giant movie screen HBO erects each summer shows classic flicks on Monday nights.
Features
A statue of Bryant dominates the east end from an elevated area affording a lovely view through stone balustrades. Just south of that, a small bronze Gertrude Stein slumps like a Buddha gazing northward with some bewilderment at that travertine and glass gem, the W.R. Grace Building. Other memorials abound: Goethe, William Earl Dodge, Jose Bonifacio and the pink granite Lowell Fountain.

Plays host to some of the city's most pleasurable rituals--particularly the summer movie series. I'm looking forward to checking out the new carousel.
