WHAT'S LEFT OF LEATHER
by mickjr
When it first opened, it was on a great block--industrial and west to the extreme. Since then the area has become full of bars for the bridge and tunnel set so you'll be walking the streets surrounded by anorexic women in pointy toed spiked heels. The inside looks great---black walls, metal everywhere, dirty bathrooms---just what you came all the way here to see. Of course, it has big boots to fill. The original Eagle at 21st was legendary and lasted through all the glory years of Manhattan gay male sexual exuberance and well beyond. Now instead of an everynight dress code like the early years of the senior Eagle, the new one has a special leather night on Thursday. Dress appropriately or you'll have to stay in the downstairs bar and pay full price for the longneck Buds. It's at least a visual thrill with lots of black leather clad men and even a barber available to shave heads and do buzz cuts. Early in the week, it's almost always emtpy late and Saturday night is always crowded. There is a great roof top deck/bar for the warmer months. It's not the old Eagle, it's not the Spike, it's not the Lure. But it's all there is. So go. You might even be tempeted to buy a leather jock!
- Pros: LEATHER NIGHT SUNDAY BEER BLAST
- Cons: LOTS OF EMPTY WEEK NIGHTS HARD TO PARK WEEKENDS
One of Manhattan's heaviest cruise bars.

The Scene
Buried deep on a commercial street lined with chop shops and abandoned lots, The Eagle evoke the bar's original, pre-gentrified locale. The industrial vibe extends inside the long, two-floored space. Unfinished concrete floors, chain-link fencing, low lighting and pounding house tracks set the mood: sleaze, but in the best possible sense.
The Draw
Drop a beer bottle on the floor and patrons will happily tromp over the broken glass. (Try that at Lot 61.) The handsome wood bar, coral-style seating and pool tables from the old establishment are on board, as are plenty of humpy men clad in leather, Levis and uniforms.
Best Beer Blast Ever!

Summers over and I'll miss the rooftop for the Beer Blast, but now that the days are cooling off and the action moves back downstairs the real fun starts. All types of sexy laid back guys enjoying cheap beer. Never an attitude. Great music by my favorite beer blast dj Paul Ferrer! It's all good!
Definitely not the softer side of Sears

No Drama. No queens. Just guys. It was awesome. Loved the atmosphere. It wasn't a fashion show. All around one of the best bars I've been to.
- Pros: Inexpensive, Layed-back, Friendly
