Beautiful historic park

by uradel

This is indeed one of the most beautiful areas of the city. Incredible views of the Statue of Liberty and the bay. Incredible gardens and memorials. There is an aids memorial garden with literally 1000's of different types of roses. This place has significant meaning to my family as it has a memorial to my Uncle John and his fallen Naval shipmates. Their ship was sunk off the coast during WWII. You will be very moved as you wind your way through the park. As with any memorial location, you will be stirred to tears. But please visit because it is such a lovely, special place.

  • Pros: A very lovely historic park
  • Cons: none

One of New York City's most underrated attractions

by leotoni

It is amazing how so few people in New York City know Battery Park and appreciate it. It offers nature, a bicycle path, breathtaking views of the Hudson and the Statue Of Liberty, and a piece of calm right in the heart of the financial world. You can just sit back, relax and watch the yachts passing by or have a nice brunch at the World Financial Center. Seeing the 4th of July fireworks roar above the Status of Liberty never gets old! Battery Park is probably the best park for adults in New York City, frequented mostly by those who reside in the area: a nice, hip, polite crowd.

  • Pros: Water views, restaurants with water views, not overly crowded
  • Cons: A little strict on some rules, such as not allowing photography tripods

Urban bliss on the Hudson in this spectacular city park.

by Contributor

Overview
Battery Park takes its name from a line of British cannons that once protected the harbor in the late 1600s. Now, visitors will find a collection of memorials, gardens and breathtaking views of the Statue of Liberty. One highlight is the Hope Garden (a rose garden with 10,000 specimens). Planted in 1992, the garden is a memorial to those who have died of AIDS. Several other memorials are here, including one to veterans of World War II, and another for the Korean War. Ample benches face the Hudson, Liberty Island and the Lady herself, lovely against a sunset.

Features
Bring bikes, blades and scooters: The promenade is for pedestrian and recreational traffic only, giving kids relative freedom from urban obstacles. Be sure to check out the recreation department kiosk, just north of the playground, where kids can borrow pogo sticks, badminton sets and more.
