Walking to Manhattan on the Brooklyn Bridge on a sunny day is like no other experience. The bridge itself is magnificent, and walking on it allows you to see just how beautiful it is. And of course, the view is absolutely spectacular. Lower Manhattan is just absolutely beautiful, and you even have a good view of the city beyond. End your walk by relaxing on a park bench in the gorgeous City Hall area and you've got yourself a great afternoon!

Although the skies opened up on me and soaked me from head to toe, the 30 minute stroll across the Brooklyn Bridge was incredibly exciting. An excellent view of Manhattan.

Pros: Good exercise, Great view

The view from this bridge is my favorite view in the entire city! A great walk, someplace I will return to again and again. Recommended for anyone who wants an incredible view of Manhattan!

There is nothing than shows off New York better than a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. The best time is to go just before the sunsets so that you can catch the sun going down behind the buildings and lighting up the sky. Go all the way over to Brooklyn and have dinner on Henry or Montague Streets. After dinner take a stroll on the Promenade for spectacular views of Manhattan.

Pros: Great View, Romantic

Cons: No Bathrooms!

We take this monument to engineering for granted, but what a marvel it is, not to mention the views up and down the East River from the bridge. Plus walking across is good excercise.

The approaches to the bridge are LONG, but it was worth it walk across from Civic Center Plaza. Once in Brooklyn, just must walk along the Brooklyn Heights promenade -- best views of Manhattan and Statue of Liberty

Pros: Beauty, History, Views

Cons: Long Walk

Walking across the Brooklyn Bridge is one of the best ways to experience New York City. Not only is the bridge itself breathtaking to look at with it's gothic arches, but the views of upper and lower Manhattan, the harbor and the boats down below are, simultaneously, spectacular! And the bridge is a wonderful way to experience how many New Yorkers get around. It doesn't cost anything, you don't have to wait an hour in line, and it connects two great boroughs with many other attractions to see.

Pros: Historical, Free, Spectacular views

Cons: No restrooms, go before you cross

I think the Brooklyn Bridge is beautiful. Informative historics that went along with it. I loved walking across it. It has a great view. I thought it was just beautiful. I'm glad I had the experience

Pros: great view, informative historics, wasn't crowded

Editor's Review

Biking, blading or walking, the best way to appreciate the beauty of Manhattan and one outer borough is somewhere in between.  See the full editorial review.

The Extras

If you're into water views and can stomach some traffic, consider a saunter along the East River Park esplanade, where the scenery changes at top speed as cars on the FDR zoom by.
