Not a Nazi and Not a Bad

by Norcim133

This place has some great soup. It will not be the world-transforming experience that the hype might make you expect but only because there are few things that could keep up with such hype. The man is not rude so much as he just doesn't talk much. And the soup is not at all expensive since it is hearty as a meal and comes with bread, fruits and a chocolate.

  • Pros: great food, enough for a meal, quick service

The original "Soup Nazi" is as conduct-obsessed and culinarily talented as his TV counterpart.

by Contributor

The Scene
Lining up for the strict Soup Nazi of "Seinfeld" fame brings on an eerie sense of deja vu; it's exactly as the show represented it, down to the posted sign listing the rules of behavior and the rigid enforcement of orderly conduct (have your money ready and step to the left immediately after ordering). Even with the lines stretching around the block, it's worth it.

The Food
SKI offers approximately eight kinds of soup a day, in three sizes, and all of them are delicious--particularly the luscious lobster bisque and the chicken chili, which is generally the first to disappear from the menu. The prices may seem a bit steep for a humble bowl of soup, but each comes with a bag of sides selected to complement it: a variety of breads, fresh fruit and even a chocolate.

I love this place!

by aniap

Yeah, so the soups might be a little overpriced, but it's the best soup I've ever had! And I think it's great that the guy is so rude--makes you really feel like you're on Seinfeld :) Those people who complain about it really have no sense of humor. Too bad they're closed during summer.

  • Pros: best soup, character
  • Cons: a little overpriced, closed during summer

$15 ?

by ysunwoo

Can't believe the rudeness. For $8 good soup goto Daily Soup, Pret-a-Manager, Cozy Soup & Burger,

or Hale & Hearty Soups.

  • Cons: Expensive, no service, long lines

Good Food

by jakubowicz

Excellant soups. The seafood bisque was outstanding, as were all the extras in the take out bag. Only down side where to eat the soup on a cold Feb. day

Horrible

by karen78

The soup was not good and extremely overpriced. This place is way overrated. The guy behind the counter was rude and mumbled things I couldn't understand and he refused to repeat. He liked to point at random things that didn't answer your question. I guess he's the soup nazi, which means nothing to me because I'm not a seinfeld fan. Overall, this was the worst experience I had in a great city.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: The whole experience

Cant live without it

by garyty

I have been going here at least twice a week for 3 years. People who complain about the service are crazy. Where else do you get your food 45 seconds after you order it? Gamblor had it once and was drooling for it ever since.

  • Pros: Best Soup Ever
  • Cons: Lines

lives up to the billing

Soup Kitchen International is virtually the same place that is depicted in the Seinfeld episode and the soup is truly amazing. I almost always get a large crab bisque ($15) and it has never been anything but excellent. Don't come here if you're expecting great service or a place to sit down or anything more than a bowl of soup, a piece of bread, some fruit and a chocolate. The place is pretty pricey for what for you get, but is well worth it. Also, the lines seem to have gotten much shorter. I only waited a couple of minutes today, in sharp contrast to the half-hour waits and lines stretching around the block of 2 years ago.

  • Pros: Soup is amazing

I can't believe people pay up to $15 for mediocre soup from a guy who treats everyone like an imbecile!

Good Soup from Hell

by redeel

DON'T GO!! SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!

The soup is delicious and I guess the first time you visit the Soup Kitchen, it is a novelty. But, the service is beyond horrid...and the Nazi's rudeness is incredible. Who the hell does he think he is??? After the treatment I received, I felt like throwing the carton of soup right back at the jerk. Except it was too damn expensive to waste. $8 for a pint of soup???? oh yeah the piece of bread and strawberry make it so worth while. DON'T GO!! SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!

  • Pros: Flavor
  • Cons: Service, Service, Service
