Beautiful scenic escape

by sharopooks at Citysearch

You can't beat the beautiful hillside views of the Hudson in this park. I live in WaHi and this urban escape is one of Manhattan's best kept secrets - spectacular views, near the Cloisters and not mobbed with people. Nice!

  • Pros: Views of Hudson, Peaceful

Go to this lovely park and turn back the hands of time.

Overview
Hilltop views of the Hudson River and the George Washington Bridge make Fort Tryon irresistible to city-weary New Yorkers from all five boroughs. The narrow stone paths are a far cry from busy city pavement, and the sound of birds almost drowns out the traffic on Broadway. With no shortage of steep steps, this cliff-side location also offers a scenic alternative for clocking some outdoor stair-climbing minutes.

Features and Attractions
If the great outdoors becomes too much for you, spend a peaceful hour or so admiring the Unicorn Tapestries at the Cloisters, the branch of the Metropolitan Museum devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe. Or, if you're feeling more lively, every fall, the Medieval Festival introduces 40,000 revelers to Europe and Africa in the Middle Ages. Participants dress up in feudal costumes and enjoy authentic medieval culture with jugglers, jesters and a joust between four knights on horseback.

Memorable, quiet relective city site

by richvc at Citysearch

This is one place where all can enjoy a quiet and reflective time. At the same time you can lay back and sense a time & space from long ago at the Cloisters, smell the aroma and sense the beauty of nature. However, if you are or want to be a child at the moment, you can do both-But at the same time spend a romantic time with your partner and enjoy a wonderful view!

  • Pros: Quiet & Scenic, Fantastic museum, Inexpensive city day
  • Cons: Not enough eateries

Peace and quiet

by sylvieif at Citysearch

Just a few nannies with strollers, and a couple of art students trying to sketch a landscape, this is the most peaceful park in the city, and the best thing is that it's close to the Cloisters.

  • Pros: Peaceful, Scenic
  • Cons: Far from midtown
