Good atmosphere

by rachsmith

I went there a couple of times on weekends, the music is fantastic, very crowded (even though that may have to do with the rugby games, I don't know), very good atmosphere. The on;y thing I didn't really like was the fact that bartenders weren't very friendly, but I'm sure dealing with drunk rugby fans may be tough sometimes. Anyway, I will try to go there once without rugby to see what it's like.

Red Lion rocks

by Ciara Mahon

Sorry to hear about your experience but I went there on Friday night with a big group of friends. The place was packed with rugby supporters. Audio was on for both the Ireland and England games. The kitchen was open late, got wings at 4.00am! The service was great. The atmosphere was incredible even though we didnt get the results we wanted. They even put a band on inbetween the games. I would definitely go back to watch the rest of games even though our team is out, it will always be my spot for rugby.

Watch At Nevada Smith's (3rd Ave & 12th St) instead!!!!!

by CKC1

Hi - you ruined a 10 year reunion of friends from around the world when you lied and deceived me and my friends into thinking we could come and watch the RWC quarterfinals. No kitchen, no audio and both were promised several times - I called all week long just to make sure, and each time I called I was ASSURED that we would have the audio for the match and that the kitchen would be open.

SERVICE - AWFUL. MUSIC - AWFUL. ATMOSPHERE - AWFUL. EVERYTHING IS AWFUL.

I would think that loyal patrons of 4 years - we've been watching rugby and premiership at your establishment throughout and spending alot more than your typical washup NYC walk-in student crowd - would earn us some sort of credence; worst case, we at least thought you would make an effort to live up to your empty promises. You truly ruined what was supposed to be a reunion of friends from around the world by lying and overpromising.

"Historically, this has always been THE place to watch Rugby World Cup matches. All matches are played live, and if the time difference makes it too tough to watch the match live you can always pitch in the next morning and the staff can play your match back for you - they record everything.

Rugby World Cup Quarterfinals - SA vs. Australia - we called in a week before the match to make sure a) they were playing the game live at 1am b) the commentary/match audio would be on and c) the kitchen would be open.

We spoke to several staff, as we were expecting over 20 people from all over the world - Hong Kong, NZ, Aus, South Africa, UK. JOE (the owner?) at the Red Lion ASSURED us the match and commentary would be on and the kitchen would be pumping out Irish breakfasts.

Liars! 25 friends later, we show up 2 hours before game time so we can grab seats. All ready to watch the World Cup quarterfinals with our international guests and they refuse to play the audio - AND THEY KEEP THE KITCHEN CLOSED! After much pleading with the manager - we confirmed 3 separate times that 20-25 patrons would come to watch the match - all we got was "sorry can't help you, but we appreciate your business." A^%holes and Liars! at 1am it was too late to try and relocate our group of friends, so we were forced to stay and watch the match to the tune of some pathetic, drunk college imitation of jazz. This place absolutely ruined what was supposed to be a 10 year reunion of friends from all around the world.

Worst of all, they didn't even try to apologize and offered no consolations for ruining our reunion.

WATCH PREMIERSHIP FOOTBALL, RUGBY AND CRICKET AT NEVADA SMITH'S INSTEAD.

RED LION SUCKS - THEY LIE AND WILL TELL YOU WHATEVER YOU WANT TO HEAR IN ORDER TO GET YOU TO COME IN. AND THEIR BANDS BLOW TOO!"

Terrible service

by monkeys4freedom

We thought this would be a good place to symbolize Greenwich Village. We were wrong. I ordered an iced tea, but for some reason the waitress didn't feel the need to bring it to me the first time I asked. She came back and said she wasn't sure I really wanted it. What? Why would I order it if I didn't want it. Finally, 10 minutes later, I got my beverage.

I ordered a burger, which was good, but my friend ordered a blackened chicken wrap, which was terrible. It had nothing but chicken. When she asked about it, the waitress said that was the way it was supposed to be.

Later, she looked at the menu, which said it was supposed to come with cheese and peppers. We complained and the manager said that she couldn't get a new sandwich because she had already eaten the first one. SHE DIDN'T EAT THE FIRST ONE! She ate a few bites of it and decided it was terrible.

I strongly recommend you stay away from this place!

Went for the India World Cup games. Had a blast! Great atmosphere, great service, great food! Drinks are decently pricey, but the experience is totally worth it :)

Some things never change!

by thegriller

I haven't been back to the Red Lion in 10 years. Kind of fell out of love with Bleecker Street when they went all banks, drug stores and condos. But I happened to be having dinner at Minetta Tavern the other night. (If you can get a seat feel blessed.) And decided to give Bleecker another shot for old times sake. Mike Tait is still Alive. He's been playing there for 17 years. All the staff behind the bar is still there. Evan remembered me from when i had a big head of hair. (I haven't been called Haircut in a 100 years.) The music is loud, they sell Boddingtons. They moved the bathrooms - but basically it's all how I remembered it. I even woke up with a good old fashioned hangover straight from a bottle of Jager. I must be having a middle life crisis - but I had a great time. Nice to see the whole city ain't a big Starbucks.

by mattamattikicks

Lookie here, bud. The girls is easy. The music is loud. And the drinks is strong. If you can't get something at the red lion you must be down the block somewheres thinking your in the red lion.
