Great Friday Night

by Pierce7777

I had to check this place out after reading all of the HYPE on this Friday bartender and had an amazing time. Not only was she hot but she poured great drinks and was a lot of fun. I will be back next Friday!!!

Consistently Fun

by jkiraz

I pretty much never post here, but I read some of the reviews on this spot and felt the need to respond. I've lived in the neighborhood for years and occasionally hit Vig for an aggressive night of drinking. Really that's what this place is all about. I read the reviews on the girl bartender on Fridays. If they're talking about the skinny, dark haired girl with the tattoo, that's kind of crazy. I’m a bartender and she’s actually really good. Pours very strong drinks, moves quickly (and is definitely hot).

It's gotten a little fratty, but what bar in the East Village / Nolita / LES hasn't these days? The music on Friday is a good mix and keeps the crowd happy. Most of all it seems fun cause the staff has fun and drinks along with the customers. Sign of great bartenders in my opinion.

  • Pros: Fun Staff, Strong Drinks
  • Cons: Can be overly crowded

watch you money here

by blck

Pretty crowded, standard fare for frat-college type bar trying to be cool My main beef is the bartender who basically stole money from . Gave $40, told me I only paid $30 for $26 tab without pause after I saw her stare at the money. Be careful - the bartender I'm talking about has a tatoo on her lower back on the right side. $10 isn't much I know, but it's really the principle.

Great place to lose your wallet!

by thecanadian

THE PEOPLE WHO WORK HERE ARE FRIGGIN HONEST!!!

Four of us girls from Canada stumbled into this little bar with a bunch of guys on a Friday night and this place was packed with nice people and great music. Not only that, I somehow managed to lose my wallet and the Manager Billy was kind enough to return it to me!

We checked out a few clubs and bars in NYC and I had the best experience at The Vig Bar - hands down! Here's a bar that's made of friendly and honest people, great music, no cover, cheap drinks and crazy fun!

If you're in the SoHo area, you NEED to check this place out. NEED!

  • Pros: People, music, great crowd.
  • Cons: Can't think of one.

Good Chill Out Bar

by nicros71

My cousin had a get together at this bar / lounge. Its small but great for afterwork gatherings. DJ played some cool mellow, mooded tunes. Can get crowded after awhile and people were waiting outside to get in.

  • Pros: Cozy chillout lounge
  • Cons: Small and crowded

Great Time - New Years 2008

by talent1

Booked the back room for NYE 2008. Despite the negative reviews below, I found Billy (the bar manager) to be responsive. The drinks were mixed very well and he worked with me to put a TV in the back room to watch the ball drop. Very nice ambiance in the back room and my party thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Did not go smoothly entirely so I didn't give a five star rating. Food we were promised was not in the bar at all and I had to flag him down mid-party to make sure they went to a deli around the corner to rush 55 sandwiches to my party. Six hour drink deal without food on New Year's is asking for alcohol p0isoning, so they did their best to accomodate. As with booking anything, constant follow up is key, particularly with ownership that owns four of these bars in Manhattan. Will remember that the next time. Overall a positive experience and I recommend this bar for any night but a Friday or Saturday. Lines are around the block.

Unbelievably awful bar . .. DO NOT PLAN A PARTY HERE

by nyer52587

I cannot stress enough how awfully treated we were at this bar. My friends reserved the back room for a bday party and were told they had to have 50 people there by 10:30 or they would be charged $500. At 10:30 the bar was empty because 50 people were IN LINE, including the birthday girl. The bouncer was totally rude, saying crass disgusting things that even if the bar was packed, was totally uncalled for. He refused to let any guys in. The manager was just as rude despite the fact that we probably made up 70% of his bar for the party and were spending money at his bar. He kept insisting the bouncer was just "doing his job". This place is just horrific, this is my second experience with that bouncer and he was just as awful the first time. The bar has such potential if it could only fire its staff. I will never go back and certainly recommend people look elsewhere if planning a party.

  • Cons: Completely rude staff

Never again...avoid like the plague

by nightowl1220

Though I had been to this small (seriously--feels like a small two-bedroom apartment) bar before, I had never been to the bar on a weekend.

First, the bouncers were total a-holes. When asked if they could accommodate one female, one of them actually pretended to hauk a loogey on her and told her to get in the back of the line. After standing in the cold for 45mins with no movement, one person asked a bouncer how much longer they thought we were going to wait. He proceeded to tell us that we had only three purposes in life: to eat, go number 2 (although he used other words) and die. Then he told us to shut up. To boot, they were letting in random guys (??).

The manager was inconsiderate and unresponsive. Though he came out to randomly bring people in with him, he ignored people for the first hour we were in line. Finally a burly guy in the back grabbed his arm and asked him what the deal was. He claimed the bar was far too crowded to let people in--while he was coming out to find people to take inside with him. Overall douche.

Finally, someone on the 3rd/4th fl of the apt building overhead was throwing eggs down on the line for the 1.5 hours we were there.

Awful. Honestly, if service, courtesy and space mean anything to you, avoid this bar like the plague. I've never written a review before, and I hope I never have the occasion to do it again.

  • Pros: None anymore
  • Cons: Crowded, horrible bouncers and management, EXTREMELY small venue

I wish.....

by hd001

This bar has all the makings of a wonderful place; however, the management is not the greatest-by far and large. There has been more than one instance where I have had to dispute charges. I want this bar to be great; that would be my reason for making the mistake for coming back. It's like a hot stove, I know I shouldn't put my hand on it, yet I do, from time to time. I would honestly warn people I know.
