Best bar ever
by KrasHHH
Checked this place out after searching on the net. Its exactly as it says - good ol fashioned fun. Come for a drink, be polite and talk to the regulars and you'll have a great time. Come with an attitude then forget about it. Had a great night with the boys. Had the owner greet us immediately and pour a couple of shots and it was superb from then on. Forget the club scene if you want good jukebox music, shoot a game of pool and get drunk. Best time I had in NY. Shout out to Mike and Billy from the boys from downunder.
Worst bar in the area by far
by Sarah McIntyre
The staff are rude and obnoxious. While I was there I witnessed homophobia and racism, to the point where one woman was violently thrown out, not because she was causing trouble (she wasn't, she was sitting alone having a quiet drink, looked like a businesswoman or something on her way home) but because, when some drunk guy hit on her, she politely informed him she wasn't interested and she was a lesbian. Next thing the bar tender is screaming abuse and she is dragged out.
Even if this hadn't happened (and according to a few people who'd been before it happens a lot) I would never have gone back. It's dirty, the bathrooms are disgusting and the drinks are bad. The bartender spilled half my beer before he even gave it to me and didn't even apologise.
Disgusting place, stay well away.
Worst bar I've ever been to
by Claire19
Like others have said... haven for anti-gay sentiment, in Chelsea no less!! Just in the short amount of time I was there, bartender regularly called people "fagot" and when they protested, he threw them out still yelling obscenities as they exited. And all the clientele seemed to back his actions! Felt like I was in the Twilight Zone!
And if that wasn't bad enough, the place is really dirty (beyond "dive bar" standards), smells bad, the bathrooms are gross.
Don't waste your time or money!
Please do not support this hate filled bar-very anti gay

I beg of anyone that believes in equality to not support this hate filled bar. I recently moved to the neighborhood and stopped by Billy Marks to watch some tv and have a drink. I did not care to really converse but was asked by a few of the patrons if i was in a relationship. I informed them I was indeed with someone of the same sex and all hell broke out. The bartendar and owner (Mark) began to call me a F*** Fagget and told me my kind was not welcomed. He then demanded for me to leave as I sat there alone and cried. When I did not leave fast enough, he pushed me. As I was walking out the door he said don't worry about contacting the police because he was a former NYPD officer. I called the police, and of course they did nothing. One officer told me to read the Constitution because I had no rights. Where I am from, we don't greet our new neighbors with hatred. Please I beg of anyone that may read this, do not support their anti-homosexual establishment!
Do not patronize

Haven for anti-gay sentiment. The bartender, Billy or Mark or a*shole, called my friend a f*ggot. When I confronted him about his language, he called me a fat white b*itch. Please, let this place close.
NEVER GOING BACK!

I would award this place ZERO stars if I could, but citysearch won't let me. The bartender called the male of our foursome a "f*ggot" (and the guy was straight ps--not that that excuses the bartender's behavior). When I told the barkeep that such language was uncalled for and derogatory he told me "it's in the English language" and then said my friends were just "taking up space." (Mind you, the place was completely empty besides one regular at the bar.) He also called one of my friends a "fat white bitch" when we confronted him about his language. We were honestly leaving the place respectfully, not causing any trouble, and he went out of his way to be an insulting jerk. This bartender was ignorant and offensive, and I can guarantee you me and my friends will never "take up space" there again.
Best place in the City!

Since I am in New York about once a month, I decided to go out and find a good neighborhood bar. After a quick search I found it. The place is something that reminds you of Cheers and has it's regular patrons. After a brief conversation, I was amerced into a fun loving atmosphere. This place does not care how you are dressed or where you come from. They do however, take care of people and look down on people who have bad attitudes. Billy went outside and smoked with my cousin and I on the street and we talked about everything from Corvettes to horse racing (the Kentucky Derby). Man, are these guys knowledgeable. I will be back each and every time I am in the city.
- Pros: All things
- Cons: They don't accept credit cards.
Best dive bar in MYC

Don't expect models or snobbery, but if you want to listen to the jukebox, watch sports or shoot pool with real New Yorkers, go hang out with Billy or Mark - they're in there every night....Highly recommended
Worst bar in the city. DO NOT GO HERE! Someone will fight you....
by tellad123
This could be the rudest most unfriendly bar i the city. The owners are the bartenders and they won't pay any attention to you, but then when you don't have a drink they yell at you to either drink or leave. If you talk back they'll send one of their mentally challenged goons over to try and scare you. If this happens just drop them a simple mathematical addition question to really confuse them while you run for the door. Seriously, I don't recommend going here. You're only asking for trouble from one of the owners or their half-wit friends...
- Pros: There are none
- Cons: You name it. Sure to get into a fight even if you keep to yourself...
Best place to meet a friend!! and get a really good drink!

I had an internship in NY for a few months, and, though i knew almost noone, the guys at Billymarks' took me in and introduced me to everyone and I met a ton of people! Billymarks is the PERFECT dive bar! I LOVE the bartenders and the regulars (ESPECIALLY RALPHIE!! and CURLY JOE and those other guys who are AWESOME!!) and they are a true familiy to anyone who left their actual family at home to pursure their dreams in NY... Billy and Mark and the regulars are one of a kind and deserve the award for the best dive bar in the city, hands down!!! I just hope they remember me affer all these months (but even if they don't i'll be back to remind them, because they always say their children don't leave for good, they always come back, and don't worry... I'LL BE BACK!!... and they better still have my picture on the wall!!!) Long story short... GO TO BILLYMARKS!!!
