I've been eating at NYC restaurants for the past ten years, and I've seen some good ones and some really bad ones, but this one is great. I started in the bar with my wife for a couple cocktails. I had probably the best manhattan in my life. My wife asked for an apple martini, and the bartender suggested their own version which she liked alot. We loved our server in the diningroom, Karen?, she made our anniversary really special. The food was really impressive--cheese fondue, then we shared a monster porterhouse for two that was the best steak I ever ate. The sommeliere was really helpful and new everything about the winelist. He helped us find a great malbec that was a hidden gem and inexpensive. A truly refreshing experience where we felt appreciated for coming to a restaurant, Finally!
Pros: Food, Service

It made me sad to look through the reviews and realize that the last few that Dylan received unanimously agree that it is bad. I used to love that place--and so did many other people. I remember when it was practically impossible to reserve a table there, when the steaks were delicious, when their appetizers almost made you cry (warm lobster salad, where art thou), when it was noisy, and boisterous and fun! Went there last week and found the entire experience BAD. First, their current appetizer menu gives you so few choices, and really one worse than the other. Second, the place was practically empty at around 8 pm -- never a good sign. Now, here comes the kicker. We ordered porterhouse steak for two, medium rare, and it arrive on a COLD PLACE. I mean not even room temperature. Do you remember that nice buttery sizzle of porterhouse? Well, not this one. So, by the time we ate the first two pieces, the rest of the steak was cold, covered in solidified fat, and completely inedible. Then came the deserts, which looked like somebody had dropped them and then reassembled them in a hurry. Messy, undistinguished, nothing to write home about. Our top three choices of wines were not available. The waiter had NO IDEA about any of the wines on the menu, unless you count understanding the difference between red and white. A sommelier was not available. I could go on and on, but I will stop here. I refuse to give it one star only because my husband and i had one of our most memorable dates there five years ago. Shame....
Pros: hmmm, good memories?
Cons: bad steak

I used to eat here alot, but maybe never again. Last week, I ordered a filet mignon medium rare and I had to send it back because it was so rare, it was almost breathing! When it came back to me (after a huge wait), the mouthfeel was rubbery. They say they use prime grade beef, but I'm thinking they're pulling the wool over our eyes by using choice...or worse yet, select. The sides were good, but it makes no difference when the anchor of the meal drags along the bottom. My family and I were sitting in a booth and they were changing a tablecloth on a large round table next to us. It was the kind of cheap folding table used for outdoor catered parties! You'd think a nice place like this would have a nice permanent table for large parties. It's the kind of smoke and mirrors thing that makes me wonder what's going on in the kitchen (Prime? Choice?). There also seems to be a Jersey biker element that hangs out here, which, quite frankly, doesn't aid in my digestion and makes me a little nervous for my family's safety. I work hard at Goldman and I really don't need to deal with poor service, rubbery steaks and sketchy characters using profanity near my family. I'm going to Wolfgang's. I've never had a bad experience there.

After paying our $250 bill for 2 people for a mediocre meal, we decided to order 2 shots of Patron. We handed the waiter a $50 bill to pay for the shots upon which we received $15 back. When questioning the manager/owner as to how this could be, he replied that they were in fact $17 each, plus tax. He actually had the nerve to tell us he had to pay a delivery charge. $35.00 for two little shots is completely unacceptable, and his response was even more infuriating. Add that to the slow service and it is a recipe for disaster. I will not be returning there ever again.

Wife and I went to Dylan's on or about Valentives Day. Place was not crowded but the hostess sat us at the middle table between two other couples when the restaurant was barely 10% full. (You know how close that can be in Manhattan). We were laughing with the other couples about how cramped we were. I guess we didn't rate on the cool meter and were seated in the uncool section or at least that was the vibe we got. Steaks were disappointing, my wife's filet was served in 2 pieces! Looked very strange. Took very long time to get drinks and dare we say a refill on them. We will not be returning anytime soon. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

The food here was really amazing. My husband and I spent a lot of time deciding on where we were going to spend our first anniversary dinner in the city and finally decides on Dylan Prime. I had the filet and he had the NY strip, and we were both more than satisfied with the food. The cream of spinach was the best I've ever had. If you like the fancy martinis, ask to see the dessert menu because that is where they are hidden. I wish I would have known this before dinner. Our waiter wasn't the best and he started off the evening by saying "ummmmm, there are no specials and we dont have this... this and this..., followed by a long pause. I think he was waiting to see if we still wanted to eat there, and I'm glad that we did. The ambiance was great.. dark, and lit with candles, and perfect for our anniversary. I would defintely go there again!
Pros: Steaks, Sides, Atmosphere
Cons: service

Dylan's is one of those restaurants that is always consistant. It's always good. Even if it's crowded, the service is still good. Sure it might be slower, but then againt he food is cooked to order so normal. We no longer live in NYC but make it a point to always dine at Dylan's during our trips to NYC and the husband recommends it to all his clients visiting NYC. This is truely a great steak restaurant. Been to BLT and this is better. I don't even want to try others, this one is the crown jewel of steak houses
Pros: everything
Cons: none as far as food, a bit of a hike from uptown to downtown but worth it

So, I had been thinking about visiting this place for months. I read reviews. I've heard mixed reviews. I must say that I loved it! We started out with cocktails in their beautiful lounge and then had dinner in the dining room. We were seated and promptly approached. Our waitress was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. We found out that she had worked there for a few years, so assumed that she would be able to give some good suggestions. And our instincts were correct! Most of our group had steaks (the "Cowboy" ribeye was AMAZING) and one in our group was convinced to try the bacon chop (something we never would have thought about, but we all tried...and loved it!) The lobster mac and cheese was to die for! Our experience was incredible and will be back again!
Pros: Service, food

Do not go here if you have a large group. We had 10 people in our party. For our 1st drink we waited an hour and got to order after hour and thirty mins. The food left something to be desired. Overpriced and all of the steaks were overcooked. we finally were able to get the check after 3 hours and 30 mins. We refused to get desert because of the wait time. The final bill was over $1600. Everyone left with feeling ripped off. Oh and the crowd is SO Not Hip!!! If you want steak DO NOT GO HERE. Stay to Brooklyn or 14th street.
Pros: Walking out of the door
Cons: That they exist

Went here for New Year's Eve 2007. The decor was ok, the restaurant is difficult to get to, the service was decent..nothing exceptional, nothing bad. The steak itself, was horrible. I had to actually ASK the waiter if the meat was a choice cut or prime cut, that's how bad the steak was. Much better steakhouses elsewhere that's not difficult to get to.
