Went to Village on Friday night with a party of 7. Food was delicious. I got the chicken and it was tasty and moist and pretty much just terrific. One of my friends had the duck which was also very good. The pre-fix menu is an easy choice for under 30 bucks. And to add a little gravy, the house wine is from a fabulous region in Italy and i couldn't even believe it was so inexpensive. Or that it was their house wine!! All in all great intimate dinner.,
Pros: The food, the service, and the wine
Cons: none

I went for the prix-fixe brunch yesterday (Sunday). I was pleasantly surprised that there was a jazz duo (guitar and bass) playing. The selection is not extensive, but it's a pretty good deal, as it includes a cocktail, coffee or tea, soup or salad, a backet of muffins, and your entree. The main room is filled with sunlight and the space is very pretty. Service was attentive, although a little confused, and didn't rush us. I'd go back if I felt like having a nice, relaxed brunch.
Pros: Jazz combo, classy setting, good value
Cons: Confused waitstaff

My wife and I convinced Grandpa to watch our baby so we could have a date night. I decided to try a place we haven't been and picked Village Restaurant. I'm very glad I did! I had made reservations--good idea if you're dining there on a Saturday night--and we were warmly greeted and promptly seated. The restaurant was filled, and the crowd was lively. This led to my only "complaint", it was a bit noisy. Our service was fantastic, and the roasted chicken was perfect. The meat was moist, the skin crisp, and the seasonings balanced. We opted for the prix fixe dinner and believe we got a great bargain. We will definitely go back. I really want to try a Sunday brunch now.
Pros: very good food, attentive service, attractive decor
Cons: a bit noisy

I've been a devotee of this place for some time. They lost their groove, and are back on track. It's the same faces, but it seems as if all have a new attitude. I was never going to go back after all the changes, but the last two times have been so fresh they obviously cleaned house, and got rid of the mediocre.
Pros: they know you quick
Cons: the excuse for service is always it's cooked to order

Nothing spectacular but always good food, always solid service, and always a pleasant experience. I suggest keeping it simple when ordering, but I have really never had anything bad. Love their 1/2 off wine over 60 on Mondays - good way to taste some nice Chateauneuf.
Pros: Great price for the food, good deals on wine, great service
Cons: none

Three of us went for a hungover, birthday brunch. We'd been talking about going here for some time, and decided to check it out. In fact, we tried to go last week, but they were closed for a private party. They gave us complimentary drink cards, which we unfortuantely forgot to bring. It could not have been better. I was craving oysters and got what I consider some of the best I've ever had (Flower Pine Island, if I recall correctly). The service was good and the food was amazing. Eggs benedict was fantastic. A perfect brunch, topped off with some amazing, well spiced and delicious bloody marys. The 6 drinks made up a good amount of the tab of $120 (incl. 20% tip). But, for the across the board amazing experience, it was worth every penny. WE"LL BE BACK!!!
Pros: FOOD, FOOD, FOOD and bloody marys
Cons: None

Before we ordered I told my companion, everything I've had on this menu has been great. Then following her meal I ask, how everything was, and she said, "Better than I expected, this is really, really good." That kinda sums up my experiences here - it's always lived up to or surpassed my expectations. (The only bad thing the entire night, was that the bread served prior to the meal was a bit charred on the outside).
Pros: Food, pleasant staff

What a treat it is to find a wonderful new place to eat in NYC! Last night my parents and I went to Village Restaurant and we had a great night! Everything from the stylish NYC atmosphere, the friendly service and the delicious food made us wonder why we hadn't been here before! But we will be coming back! And easy on the pcket book too...a very resonable price rage with everything from tuna steak to burgers. A great deal for a NYC night on the town. Try the roasted chicken, best I've had in years!
Pros: great price
Cons: a little crowded at the bar

This restaurant looks nice on the outside and inside, but the food was the worst I have had in NYC. Maybe it was just the dish I ordered, but the braised lamb was drenched in oil and almost inedible because it had no flavor. The diced vegetables in the dish were also swimming in oil and so blackened that I couldn't tell what they were, but they certainly didn't go well with lamb. Our waiter never gave us his full attention even though the restaurant was only half full. Furthermore, the warm chocolate cake dessert was really dry, which ended my extremely unsatisfying meal at the Village on an even more disappointing note. The 9.0+ rating is way off.
Pros: Decor, relaxed atmosphere
Cons: Sloppy, bad-tasting food
