awesome

by akapluto

id been here once and the muzik was soo good i had a bday party here a few days later. loved it compared to other places that tried to charge me an arm & a leg!! i needed seating for 15 but only got enough chairs for about 6 ppl but we were dancing/at the bar all night so it didnt really matter

i met mad cute boys that night nd the bartenders/bouncer were really cool & nice each time i went. theres an AWESOME pizza place across the street (yummy drunken eats) and near a few other (less fun) clubs. its not in a great barhopping location but i didnt really wanna go anywhere else coz i was having so much fun

  • Pros: great staff, cute boys, good dj, no cover!
  • Cons: reserved seating

Fun, lively and loud...drinks are fairly cheap, bartenders are quick and friendly (especially Jonah!) and the music is great. will be back soon.

real new york bar, one of my faves

by liv477

I have been to No Malice a few times and it has always been a great place to hang out. On the weekends they have awesome d.j.s and music to dance to, and there is a great energy in the place.

All the staff have always been very friendly, even though it gets really busy. Sometimes i've had to wait to get in, but its always worth it and i've never had to wait too long.

I live in the east village, and i've stopped in a couple times on the weeknights and its been a really relaxed neighborhood feel.

good drinks, good music, good service just about all i need in a place.

  • Pros: great djs, relaxed atmosphere
  • Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Bouncers are the worst

by entropik

A friend of mine was having a birthday thing there. Unfortunately there was a line, but fortunately a couple of his other friends had already arrived and let me jump into line with them. I understand it's a pain to be a bouncer in the city. I've been here 10 years and for the most part I just take it in stride. The whole time the bouncers were hassling the people waiting, organizing us oddly into two parallel lines and telling us not to face each other so it was weird even talking when we were waiting. Not to mention that they didn't even put the people into the two lines in order and thus made some people wait longer than people who got there after them.

When I went to go in with the two people I was waiting with the bouncer pushed me back into the person behind me pretty hard and said "stand back big man." So I just asked if they had any idea how much longer I'd have to wait. Then the other bouncer gets in my face and tells me I can come in when he decides and lets people waiting behind me in. I never did anything aggressive at all. I just left. And that's what I advise of others if they get here and see a line. Move on. The place might be ok, but the bouncers are horrible.

And if you're thinking of having a birthday party here don't. You might be forcing some of your friends to deal with them and it's not even something I'd want for people I don't like.

Terrible Service -- They Overcharge you!

by alecscousin

Terrible place! The bartender charged me 18 bucks for two amstel lights (he said they only had 2 beers and no draught). Then I ordered another 2 amstel lights from another bartender and he charged me 12 dollars. When i closed my tab and left no tip for such ridiculousness, i was asked "did you have a problem with the service." when i told the other bartender what had happened, he just shrugged his shoulders and basically couldn't care less. I won't ever go back.

  • Pros: Good looking women
  • Cons: Terrible Service

Low-key hideaway deep in the East Village revs up on weekends for a full-fledged party scene.

by Aaron Barker

No Malice's unmarked black exterior hints at a scruffy, biker bar edge, but a venture inside finds wide-planked hardwoods, old-school tin ceilings and wall sconces casting a mellow garnet haze. Crunk and reggae fuel a no-nonsense crowd of workaday locals taking shots at the bar or kicking back on the well worn couches toward the rear. Come Friday, a live DJ spins mostly hip-hop for a boisterous weekend mob.

Hits: The no cover policy on weekends always draws a packed house.

Misses: No beer on draft means you'll probably stick with the hard stuff.

You're beautiful. Don't ever change!!

by smilesandsmiles

So I recently moved to NYC and I'd been missing my old watering holes in San Francisco. Nothing around here seemed to make me feel at home. A good friend of mine asked me to come along on a Friday nite to what she called the biggest, baddest hole in the wall bar of all time, the No Malice Palace. While I'm not one to take another's opinion at face value, I was intrigued by the name. As soon as we walked in, I was completely taken by the atmosphere. The dim, red lights. The cozy living room feel. It was awesome!! Not to mention the great music. I'm not sure of the DJ's name (maybe I'll muster up the courage to approach him at some point) but he's as cute as he is talented! Hiphop, funk, reggae and even the occasional freestyle joint fill the air as the bartenders make you feel like you've been visiting them for years. Thank you No Malice! You'll be seeing me again and again!

  • Pros: Cool staff, great drinks, awesome music. You can dance and there's no cover!

This place IS the East Village!!!

by sofreshandsocleanclean

I just can't get enough of the NO Malice Palace. Every weekend I mean to go somewhere else but always find myself back here. Its my cheers of the East Village as far as the comfortable, welcoming, layed back, unpretentious vibe goes, but with super hot bartenders, and kickin hip hop. Drinks are good and strong, a real ba*g (wow! very strict rules about language on this web site) for your buck. Service is fast and friendly, (not to mention the staff seems to be having as much fun as the crowd, and did I mention they're real easy on the eyes). You're sure to have a great time here, and if you don't, just stay home the next time!

  • Pros: great music, dancing, atmosphere, service,
  • Cons: none come to mind

No Malice forefills its hype

by manatarms

last week i had one of the most enjoyable experiences, in my NY city bar career. I tend to go out to spots on a regular basis and at the no malice palace i found great blend of hip hop, and reggae, a bit of other stuff. It was pretty busy and when i looked at the bar i was a bit nervous. thinking it would take a long time to get a drink, but i was in and out in know time. i stayed practically the whole night. leaving cause my peeps were ready to go, im assuming exhaution from the dancing. Recommendations on this spot were true, and i had a great time. They'll definetely see me again.

  • Pros: Fast service great music
