Great Drinks Bad Service

by Sheckysnightlife

I came to Milk and Honey with a group of 3 clients looking for a place to shoot a 20’s themed fashion ad I figured that Milk and Honey would be the perfect location with the speak easy reputation it has.

But…… when the first impression you have of the place is a rude hostess it changes the evening for everyone. The Short Haired (brown bob with bangs) waitress was so rude to our entire table, by rolling eyes and glaring. Originally I brushed it off as a attitude problem and approached her about space for the shoot. She answered me with a rude tone the returned to her blackberry. With the reputation that Milk & Honey has I was sad to see them have such an ignorant employee. The drink are fabulous but when the person that serves you is uncouth it always leave a bad taste in your mouth.

The Best!

I miss this place! Wonderful and reminds me of places outside of the US... brings back great memories and there should be more places like this (some uptown please) throughout the city.

The absolute best

by Boomski

There are some firsts in life you never forget. Your first kiss, first fight, first trip to Disneyworld etc. For me, that list definitely includes my first trip to M&H. 2 years, and countless visits later, I have become a regular, but that little feeling of anticipation as I walk through the heavy velvet curtains has not totally vanished. Everything about this place is exceptional. The atmosphere can't be beat, whether you are on a date or just relaxing. All the previous reviews are accurate in that they use fresh squeezed juices, fresh fruit and alot of other goodies that Sasha can get his hands on. The rules are not meant to be pretentious, but to maintain a certain atmosphere. This isn't the kind of place you can drunkenly sing along to "livin on a prayer" with your girlfriends. There's nothing wrong with that - but there's a time and a place. You wouldn't conduct yourself the same way if you were eating dinner @ Jean Georges as you would at Applebees, would you? The number is no longer unlisted - as Sasha has published it on his website, and has made 2 of the 6 tables available to the public to reserve (the rest are only available for "keyholders") Sure, there are other great cocktail bars in Manhattan. All the guys at M&H work at Little Branch, and are friends with the guys @ PDT, Pegu, D&C etc, so you could get the same drinks there. But for the total experience, M&H can't be beat!

Finally after a year of serching!

by jondrama

It took me sadly a year to finally get the secret number and address, but it was well worth the wait! Come with an idea of what kind of tastes you prefer and they will custom tailor drinks to your individual likes. Be warned though the drinks are pretty pricey ($15) but you're also paying for the attention to detail, private ambiance, and exclusivity. Keep hunting for the # cause that's part of the fun! :-)

  • Pros: Exclusive, Secret, Low Light, Best bar in NY!
  • Cons: Little price at $15 a drink

Milk and Honey is, to say it best, a drinking establishment.

by williambillyons

I consider myself an extremely lucky guy. I live in New York, I have great friends, and I get to socialize at places that you only believe exist in movies. And even with this attitude of appreciating my surroundings, Milk and Honey still exceeded my expectations. I've been there twice, both with very good friends, and I can't tell you how refreshing it was to note have to deal with name dropping, waiting behind the velvet rope, and just enjoying the fact that you are a regular person receiving treatment usually reserved for stars at most places.

To start, the whole idea of creating a place where everyone has an equal shot of getting in is perfect and unheard of in this day and age. Second, the cocktails are great. Sophisticated and non-pretentious, you're not going to find the Jaegerbomb/Jack N' Coke crowd here. No plates of $80 tapas or getting your face pushed in as people walk aimlessly from one side of the room to the other, Milk and Honey is, to say it best, a drinking establishment.

You don't go there to be seen, you don't go there to pick up girls/guys. You go there to appeciate the art of making a great cocktail and exeriencing it in a relaxing setting with great friends.

Creative and delicious drinks!

by wisebrain

Okay, so I didn't pay for my drink... so I didn't know it was $15, but I probably would have paid it anyway. This place is uber small and quiet, but the drinks are totally amazing. The exclusivity thing is nice and not nice, but oh well.

  • Pros: Amazing Drinks
  • Cons: Expensive, Exclusive

Best Drinks in the City. Hands Down

by pdv_33

Milk and Honey is all about adventure. Its about adventuring down some random street in China Town and ringing a doorbell that leads you through two curtains to a 1920?s throwback speakeasy. The next adventure is that of ordering the drinks which all are amazing. Depending on your taste the drinks might be what you like or something you are not too fond of. Regardless, even those that don?t ?do it? for you are still as tasty as they will get. I think one of the best parts of the experience is the drink ordering where you state your drink preference, flavor etc and its up to the bartender. Going to Milk and Honey frequently is always interesting depending on which bartender is on that night (they have several during the week) and I have never had the same drink unless requested. I highly recommend the experience if you are looking for a nice, different and special place to talk and have amazing drink. Additionally, the service is tops in the city. Enjoy Milk and Honey and the gimmicks, as long as you have the number to spare.

  • Pros: Drinks, Service, Atmosphere, Relaxing
  • Cons: 6 person max per party

Zero Fun

by stri6

If fun was a disease, Milk & Honey would definitely be the antidote. The "secret" number is not hard to find. The space is small, hot, and uncomfortable. The scene is pretentious and boring. Reservations may or may not be honored. The only redeeming part of the entire experience was the cocktails, which were great. Other than that, the whole experience was completely miserable. Unless you're being paid to go or someone is holding a gun to your head avoid this place like the plague.

  • Pros: Great Drinks
  • Cons: It might be the worst bar in New York. Boring, Terrible Service

THIS PLACE AIN'T ALL THAT FANCY; $15 COCKTAILS + CASH ONLY/NO CC?!

by horac

First off, the billing - at least on the milk and honey website and the press reviews - on this place is that it is a members-only club to an extent and it's made out to be fancy, with locations in London and a bar in the French Alps. They also want you to pay #50/$100 to sign-up on their 'waiting list' , and then 'maybe' you'll be selected as a member for an additional #300/$600? I don't think so. It's a tiny hole in the wall, very narrow - anyone can walk in off the street. The clientele is not very fancy at all. Be advised: Soho House it ain't.

Okay - 2nd, this speakeasy thing is a disneyland-ization idea for newcomers and people in their early 20s (no disrespect; it a symptom of the suburbanization of manhattan) who have no idea of what NYC was like even 10 yrs ago, and even then the 'speakeasy' idea was looking a little like just 'looks.' It's not Verite by the very nature of the place - ya ain't going to get into trouble for being there. The rules in the bathroom seem meant as a joke more than anything; and written by men.

Lastly, the drinks are very nicely done - and beautiful to be fair. The staff is courteous - and that is a plus. But COME ON! The owners are so cheap - and selling $15 cocktails - that they don't even accept credit cards?! what about corp cards where they can make a lot of money or a table with a huge bar tab, and at the same time shuts out a lot of the artist-types this part of town tries to attract and retain. you'll have to run around the corner and 'try' to find a legit ATM - good luck!

If you're in the neighborhood and have plenty of cash, check it out. Not really worth a trip across, up, or down town as a destination, though.

  • Pros: well-done original cocktails and courteous staff
  • Cons: we thought it's a misrepresentation from what is being promoted on their website. No CC and high-priced drinks.
