We checked Zagat for restaurants with price-fixe menus near the theaters. For $40 you get a 3-course meal and quite a selection to choose from. My petite filet came out searing hot and the house potato concoction is sinful. I vowed I would only take 2 bites and ended up eating the entire 2-cup mound of garlic semi-smashed redskin potatoes. They must have had a bar of butter but it was worth it. Wine list is great and service was perfectly choreographed. Run, don't walk. Oh-one more thing: for the ladies, happy hour is the place to be, i.e. lots of men.

Pros: $40 price-fixe (pre-theater); food, service, ambience, location

Cons: pricey with wine, as always

I have to say, this place does not disappoint... From the spacious interior, to the service and food - I left the place thoroughly satisfied on all counts - that cow did not die in vain. Great for business dining as well as a big occasion celebration. If you are a carnovore like myself and appreciate a quality slab of meat, I highly recommend checking this place out!

Pros: great location, space, and food!

Cons: $$$ on the pricey side $$$

I went there Monday night, even it was Memorial Day it was still crowded. The atmosphere was refreshing, you don’t feel the crowd. The waiters are very kind and friendly. Filet mignon was the great and I strongly recommend the side dishes, mushroom and asparagus. There was an expert for wine selection in the restaurant and there was a novel like menu for wine. Expensive but worth it. Good place to take your family and visiting friends. White table cloth, quite restaurant but still is not boring.

Pros: Service

I pride myself on a good knowledge of steak, specifically NYC steakhouses. With regards to overall experience I would not say this is the best steakhouse in the city. If you wish to be pampered and made to eel important as many of the reviewers I have read then I suggest either becoming more important or going elsewhere. For those of us content enough to enjoy a fantastic steak, I highly recommend Del Frisco's. They hae excellent meat, gracious staff and a rustic atmosphere. Yes, it gets crowded. Welcome to Manhattan! Thw wine list is wonderful and I strongly recommend everything on the menu

This is so funny! I read the reviews here encouraging customers to go to AJ Maxwell's, and then went to citysearch for DelFriscos, and saw the same. OK, you got my attention, I'm in on this "steakhouse war". I'll check out both restaurants, being a steak lover I will eat at both of the local restaurants and write my review on which is the best. Stay tuned for more of the dish on is the better choice. I'LL BE BACK.

What a disappointment!! From the minute I walked through the doors, I had to force my way in through the crowd and there was no-one there to greet me. I felt uncomfortable and unwanted. After searching out the rude hostess, I was finally seated, with 2 of my friends in tow. You would thing they would try to get the dinner started on a positive note. I sat there at my table for at least half an hour before I got any attention. Our server seemed pre-occupued, monotoned and downright unprofessional. We were all starving and anxious to eat. We had heard great things about this place and to be honest, I never write these reviews, but I was so mad that I felt I had to warn people. This place is so hyped up and to me, the only good thingis the decor. The railings were the star in this restaurant. Wrought iron and gorgeous. THAT IS ALL!!!!!!! The food was awful, the crabcake was all breadcrumb, not a piece of crab in sight. The steaks were dry and skimpy. I was expecting a thick juicy hunk of beef. The service was BAD. I was recently relocated to this area and will never go back., a shame because I'm so close. I left tempted to complain and not pay the very expensive check, but that's not my style. When we went back to our office, a friend recommended AJ Maxwell's Steakhouse right around the corner. Now this is what I'm talking about. I had a great time, great food and a great welcome from Lenny the owner, I brought the guys back after work. I'm happy I found a place I can feel important walking throught the doors and get a great lunch, dinner, and a great drink. Thanks Lenny.

Pros: none, overall bad experience

Cons: nice decor

I went here for the first time last week with some family and a special guest. At first I wasn't sure what the hype was all about especially when the crowd was practically out the door and it sounded like I was on the floor of the stock exchange. With all these people I couldn't imagine the food quality could be so high. We finally sat down at our table and we ordered the double porterhouse and double eagle steak along with sides of oysters, crabcakes, shrimp cocktails, spinach, mash potatoes, and of course a nice bottle of Opus. We first started out with the appetizers which were very good. My favorite was definitely the crabcakes which was bascially lumps of fresh crab and literally no cake, absolutely amazing! At this point I figured I try the bread which looked very unassuming because of it's big seeded bun-like look and what a surprise! Nice thin crust with toasted seeds on the outside but pillow soft-n-chewy bread in the inside, again absolutely amazing! At this point I was hoping the steaks would not dissapoint. The steaks arrived to the table sizzling hot. My first bite into the steak was just surreal! Perfectly salted and peppered edge with melting tenderness and marbled fat throughout the steak, it was close to the perfect steak I have ever experienced. With a sip of our Opus red, it was just total bliss. My only dissapointment I thought was this dinner couldn't last forever. I've had my share of steaks at Luger, Capital, Mortons, Palms, etc, but this was hands down the best I've ever had. My guest had been around the world eating the best Kobe beef and other rare steaks, but he said he couldn't even compare. Del Frisco's is truly and american experience, in the middle of NYC amongst the movers and shakers, having the quintessential steak at it's perfection. These guys keep it real, letting the steak speak for itself. You have to check it out to experience this rare treat.

Pros: AAA+ Quality and Service

Cons: Congestion of noise and people

I went for a celebration with coworkers and we had an absolutely terrible lunch experience. From the minute we walked in, where people were backed-up through the door despite reservations, to the minute we sat down and our waitress came to the table it was a continuous downward spiral. Our server was overly casual and once she realized that she had used the wrong approach to the table, she quickly avoided us for the rest of the meal. I thought the bread was terrible, especially given the expectation that I rip it apart myself because I really don't enjoy having everyone at the table touch my food. The wedge salad was not good, just blue cheese dressing that I could have gotten out of a can, and the steak was okay. I went a few years ago and I really liked it, I can't remember if the restaurant has taken a crash or if my expectations have been raised dramatically. Basically, it was an expensive TGI Friday's.

Pros: it is a convenient midtown spot

Cons: everything else....

my boyfriend took me here last night for my birthday dinner, and it was amazing. Even the bread you start with is absolutely delicious. I got the 8-oz filet, which was cooked perfectly...and the spinach supreme and potatoes au gratin on the side. Both were superb. The ONLY thing that wasn't perfect was the Caesar salad...it was pretty average. The atmosphere and the professionalism of the staff can't be beat...Makes me wonder why we've been going to Smith and Wollensky all these years!

Pros: atmosphere, amazing food, professional staff

Cons: salad was average
