Goodbye (closing weekend)
by abcohen
Ok, this wall to wall people place wasnt filled with the IT crowd -- actually I cant even tell the type of crowd -- but it was fun for me (being 4 or 5 drinks into the night) okie waiting on a line really sucks.. when your told its pack and when people leave people go in.... Guess thats BS as they let more people in with no one leaving... and to pay a cover for this bar isnt that painfull but having a "password" should have worked until anytime not just midnight...
Oh and the music is soooooooo loud if you can get your name across your doing better then I was.... This is a great place if you have a group of friends - but not to meet new people.
- Pros: music
- Cons: , lines (4 no reason)
Keeping the Meatpacking District real with sassy bartenders, stellar DJs and zero attitude.
by Karen Hudes
The Scene
Though a legal battle with the landlord left his club in mid-renovation, owner and veteran DJ Tommy Frayne rose to the challenge of the rough-hewn space by creating a cool, come-as-you-are atmosphere. The more gender-subversive days of '90s occupant Mother may have passed, but this place keeps a healthy, spontaneous attitude--complete with sassy bartenders--while the rest of the Meatpacking District goes outrageously posh.
The Draw
Local and international DJs such as Satoshi Tomiie, David Morales and Hector Romero play to a bumping dance floor, where tight dimensions bring the largely straight crowd a little closer. House devotees come for deep underground grooves, while Brit-pop types and a fair share of celebs come for the weekly rock-and-roll nights.
Hole in the wall with great music...

We chose Filter 14 to celebrate a friend's 25th Birthday. We got a password for the party so that we all got in with no cover... very helpful for those with low funds. The bar was pretty much desolate when we got there at 11:30PM but by 2AM the places was jumpin'. The DJ played 80's early on and then Hip Hop once the crowd started rolling in. The old school made the night great for dancing and dancing on the stage was fun.
The crowd is mixed. This place is definitely a hole in the wall... you migh miss it if you walk by too quickly.
- Pros: music, mixed corwd
great saturdays
by LTunney
i had been to filter a lot on saturdays and liked it and just held a birthday party there which worked out great. the day staff was very helpful in giving me and my friends a "password" so we all got in free, and because the place is small, it was better than the big clubs becqause i could always find my friends. the crowd is mostly 25 - 30 year olds, but ranges in type of people from artists to bankers to writers. it is nice that it has real dancing in what feels like a neighborhood bar. boys are remarkably well behaved and generally cute. music on saturdays generally seems to be hip-hop, 80's and some raock and reggae sometimes in the lounge room. the lounge is usually the better room for me, but i danced on the stage in the main room once after too many drinks!
- Pros: dancing, fun crowd, inexpensive
- Cons: crowded occaisionally
nice

Cool, fun, laid back, inexpensive. All of these things describe Filter. It is like a nightclub with the feel of a neighborhood bar. Everyone is very friendly. There was great hip-hop and 80's music when i went. fun dancing. boys are very cute and polite!
- Pros: inexpensive, cute boys
- Cons: small
Good Times

Like a small private club in the middle of the meatpacking district. the place has a raw decor and is sort of like an old-style bar with dancing. I went Saturday and they were playing 80's and Hip-Hop, although I know they play electronic stuff other nights. Carson Daly was there the night I was which was cool. There was no VIP lounge or anything--just everyone hanging together. relaxed vibe early, dancing on the bars late. inexpensive compared to typical lounges, but the low prices show in the weak decor. but good dancing (which is rare these days). definately fun.
different--in a good way.

Filter is good for NY'ers who are tired of the typical nightclub. It is small (fits 200?) but that gives it a great vibe where it feels a little like a loft party. Crowd was a little older than your typical club (26-32 yr olds), and seemed to generally be a upscale group on a party oriented night out. (i saw a lot of dancing on the bars!) I went during the blizzard last weekend and was surprised that it got sort of crowded around midnight. The lounge played 80's rock and the main room played hip-hop and party standards like madonna and michael jackson. Seems a good place for a group party or to bring adventureous out-of-towners.
- Pros: fun, inexpensive, no attitude
- Cons: limited seating, sketchy bathrooms
BADLY IN NEED OF A MAKEOVER
by spankthemonkey
DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT PUTTING YOUR COAT OR PURSE ON A SEAT, YOU WILL GET SERIOUSLY ATTACKED. IN FACT, BETTER JUST COME TO THIS JOINT WITHOUT ANY SINCE THE SCARY COAT CHECK GIRL IS NOT WORTH DEALING WITH...THE SERVICE REALLY SUCKS, THE PLACE SMELLS BAD, AND THE PEOPLE WHO WORK THERE ARE SIMPLY TOO UGLY TO HAVE SO MUCH ATTITUDE.
- Cons: bad service, stench
best in ny
by JohnVause
quite simply the coolest nightclub in new york. i had a birthday party here (on a saturday) and it was great. hip-hop and 80's in one room and rock in the lounge -- all my friends were happy. the day staff was very helpful in setting it up so all my friends got in free. thursdays and fridays seem to emphasize more electronic-type music, which isn't always my cup of tea, but the crowd is always great.
- Pros: good for groups, fun bartenders, inexpensive
dive bar dancing!
by bbbrian
filter has the dj's and dance floor of a major club with the fun vibe of a dive bar. saturdays is a bit like college spring break (with 25-30 year olds) -- lots of dancing on the bars and people making out everywhere. I don't know any dance place in NYC with such a relaxed attitude. i recommend this establishment wholeheartedly!
- Pros: great music, fun, inexpensive
- Cons: small, crowded
