Terrific Meal

by jenkin at Citysearch

I went to this restaurant last month with my father who was in town on business. It was amazing. I might say it is my new favorite in Ny. The food and service were both impeccable. We started the roasted fig dumplings which was excellent and then split the tomato salad , also great. We both had the duck which was by far the best duck I have ever had. Decor is great! . Great great great! Thanks for a terrific meal Town!

Good Style..

by monah7eve at Citysearch

I don't usually hyperventilate and get all intimated by food. But all this place got some serious reviews and is one of the best in this fair city of ours. First of all the place was gorgeous and our seating was primo. I loved how everything was elegantly presented and not over frilly. The food was simple and tasty.I would recommend to anyone.

AVOID

by cityboy11 at Citysearch

This place tries really hard to be something it is not. The management is terrible, and the food is amazingly overpriced. The food is good but you could do a lot better someplace else.

Not a "must try" but still good

by grouchomarx at Citysearch

We went for restaurant week summer '08. We had 8:00 reservation and had to wait a few minutes (about 10) to be seated. Front desk seemd a bit disorganized and run by young immature staff. However a more senior person came to our aid and rectified things in a professional manner. The Chambers hotel is interesting and funky. Everyone waiting to dine seemed a bit dressed up. The bar is very small and you can't get near it if it's crowded. There is lounging and waitress service in the hotel lobby but they didn't start it up until we were close to being seated so we didn't get to enjoy that. The space is 2 levels, we were in the downstairs portion. It's slightly dated looking but it's pleasant and not terribly worn out. Our waitress was friendly and reasonably knowledgable. The portions were pretty small and I generally prefer that but the 1st course was itsy bitsy tiny, about 3 miniscule raviolini. We didn't get bread until after the 1st course but it was excellent. The main course was nice, we had paired wines with each course for $18 which was a nice offering. The carpet under my chair was wet for some reason and the dining room smelled like fish when you entered which was very strange. Overall the food was very good, the service professional and friendly but they seemed overwhelmed by the crush of RW. It's probably much more relaxing at other times. I had a "short rib" steak which is a confusing name as it was not a short rib at all. It was very good. Dessert was amazing, a hazelnut dacquois. I usually don't care about desserts either. House cocktails are excellent and worth a try - the passion margarita is delicious.

  • Pros: Food, cocktails, cool hotel lobby
  • Cons: Dated dining room decor, fish smell

Great Restaurant Week meal

by sklee1231 at Citysearch

After having some mediocre meals during past Restaurant Weeks, I decided to give it another try this summer. My friend and I had reservations for 6:30, and we were seated promptly (yes, it is early by NYC standards so that may have helped). Although many other items looked enticing, we decided to go with the prix fixe menu. The beef carpaccio was excellent! Both of our entrees were also great; neither the fish nor the steak were overdone. Our server was well-mannered, and although we lingered around after dessert until 8:00 when the restaurant was filling up, we were not rushed to settle the check. I have to give props to our server for her patience. She must have been asked a dozen times a night what a hazelnut dacquoise is, but she politely answered our question and gave the same answer to the table next to us when they asked the obligatory question. Overall, great food and great service!

  • Pros: eclectic menu, good for conversation

Rude Hostess, a Ripoff!

by cktc at Citysearch

We checked in 20 minutes early for 8:30pm reservation, but finally seated around 9pm. Hostesses very unfriendly, bordering hostile when we asked whether our table was ready. Extremely small portions, not worth the price! Big Miss, Geoff Z!!!

  • Pros: Nothing
  • Cons: Rude staff, expensive small portion

Worst dining experience in NY

by ajohns83 at Citysearch

I never signed on to write reviews, but Town was literally the worst dining experience I've had in NY to date. It was misrable enough to make me sign up a user profile. We had reservations at 9pm on a Monday night, and were not seated until 10pm. The hostesses and servers are all extremely arrogant and rude. The food was mediocre at best, but what left me and my party with a really bad taste in our mouth was the fact that we were all over charged on our credit cards. We were joking about going next store to Benihana's because it took a full hour to be seated, and looking back we probably would have had a better meal had we done so. I used to work in the service industry, and I understand busy nights, but there was no excuse for the poor service we received. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time!

  • Pros: Nothing comes to mind
  • Cons: Terrible Staff

AWFUL AWFUL

by sandycran at Citysearch

Never before have I written a review. And never before have I left a restaurant in the middle of a meal. But unfortunately Town calls for both. While the service was fine, the food was horrible.

Here's a list of the nasty items they tried to pass off as food: stale bread; an "amuse bouche" that was supposed to be gazpacho and instead tasted like luke-warm, pickled tomato juice; sepia salad that tasted like dried apples soaked in fish juice... and that's as far as I got. After the salad, my stomach turned on me and I needed to leave asap. Sometimes when I read bad reviews, I assume a crazy person wrote them. I swear, I'm not crazy... I just enjoy a good meal. This was anything but. Be warned!

"Town" period = "Horrible" exclamation point

by rachiepie6 at Citysearch

First of all, we had a 7:45 reservation and we weren't seated until 8:50. Don't tell me we have to wait 20 minutes when we have to wait over an hour! Once we were seated we waited 5-10 minutes before we received a MENU! Our waiter was arrogant. All in all, the food was good, but very expensive for bad customer service.

However, the kicker is that I checked my bank statement a few days later and I was over-charged! Another member of my party was charged FOUR TIMES the amount she paid. When I dine at this sort of establishment, I just expect more...

My advice= choose another restaurant.

Why take reservations?

by xylina98 at Citysearch

We made reservations for 8:15. We got there 5 minutes early had to swim upstream past the bar to get to the host. Was told that we would need to wait approx 20 minutes for them to setup our table. We walked out at 9:00 when they told us it will be another 25 minutes before we get seated.
