Pros and cons are irrelevant; the Park Avenue shop closed years ago.

Avoid for tea service

by cylonmag

This was one of the worst teaing places I've been too. I can't believe they call themselves french. They served domino sugar with their coffee and had pastries that were mediocre at best. For an "upscale" and pricey place I would of expect nothing less than cube sugars. As for service they were even worse, we had to flag a waiter down to get seated and while they were serving us they were constantly reaching over me.

  • Pros: cute store front
  • Cons: expensive and horrible tea sandwiches and pastries

C'est si bon:)

Fauchon's chocolates and pastries are delicious. The price is a little steep but well worth it. Service is a little slow..so be sure that if you go, you are not in a hurry.

Francophiles can console themselves between plane tickets at this "oui" bit of Paris, neatly stocked with imported edibles.

The Story
The year was 1886 when Fauchon's first store opened its doors to sell Parisians some of the same delicacies you'll still find there today. More cosmopolitan than ever, the New York branch of the now worldwide chain links to the lobby of the Swissotel New York, the Drake.

Who's Buying
Classic "my-wife-is-French"-"my-husband-is-rich" couples. Guests creating house-gift baskets worthy of at least a full week's stay. Anyone longing for a simple Parisian breakfast in bed.

What to Buy
One of everything--if you can afford it. In this tempting environment, $12 no longer seems an absurd price for a jar of jam! Splurge on preserves in flavors like bitter orange from Seville, the fabulously-named Afternoon in Paris tea or candied fruits and milk chocolates in the signature-pink, heart-shaped box.

The Sole Lament
If only they sold wine, cheese and bread!

Cutest Tea Salon

by golightly9

Forget the shop, the best reason to come to Fauchon is to have high tea, and there is no cuter place in the city to do it! The salon is a delicate pink and gold jewelbox, and the treat are outstanding. If you love chocolate with hazelnut, you won't want to miss the Papilotte. Coffee lovers will adore the Opera pastery. They also have divine croissants (well they are French after all!)

  • Pros: Great pasteries, Cute environment, Wonderful Croissants
  • Cons: Expensive

What exquisite packaging and tasty treats to be found at Fauchon. This is a great place to pick up corporate gifts - or gifts for those people who "have everything". Try the teas and other gourmet items.

  • Pros: Packaging, Presentation, Elegant
  • Cons: Pricey

The best in French delicacies!

by LeilaCC

Fauchon, the famous French tea & pastry house opened in New York! Don't miss Fauchon's grand pastry classic: the "macaron" in chocolate, hazelnut, vanilla or Earl Gray flavors... But also their pastries, chocolates, candied fruit, gourmet preserves and condiments (great cocoa mustard), as well as their extraordinary tea blends. You can buy from the shop or sit down in the tea house (an exact replica of the original Salon de Thé in Paris) for a the complete French experience. They recently added a deli section with top quality smoked salmon, quiches, foie gras sandwiches, etc. My personal favorites: the chocolate macaron (filled with a chocolate ganache!) and the Fauchon Blend tea. Take it from a French gourmet, Fauchon will be very nice to your tastebuds! It's also a great place for gifts, the packaging is beautiful and they have wonderful seasonal products for the holidays, Valentine's Day, Easter...

  • Pros: Excellent, Unique, French luxury
  • Cons: Expensive, A little slow
