Friendly Staff, Nice bar, good food, convinent location

by loriker

I just moved to NYC about 4 months ago, and have been on the look-out for my new 'regular' hangout. I live on E. 16th st. and as I was exploring my neighborhood I came across Belmont Lounge (located @ E. 15th) I went inside to check it out, and was very surprised at the amount of space there is. I had a drink, talked to some of the employees & instantly felt welcomed and comfortable. I now go here every Monday w/ a few girlfriends and feel like family!

  • Pros: lots of space, outdoor seating, friendly staff & management
  • Cons: Gets packed during live bands/music nights

Great happy hour!!

by sarapath2

I came in here after work to eat some bar food (you must try the nachos with chicken! They are amazing!!) I pass by Belmont everyday before & after work, and until recently had never been inside. The bar itself is really big, and its really cute. But, more importantly the drinks are cheap if you go between 4pm and 7pm for happy hour- I recommend stopping in after a long day at work.

  • Pros: best well drinks!

by DMilfort

I've heard a lot about Reggae Sunday so i decided to give it a try............The music was great playing all the underground reggae song some places are scared to play..........It can get overly croweded, but due to large demand things like that happen..........You definelty can get your "Dutty Wine" on.............Mix crowd i love it......will be back again.............

  • Pros: Music is great
  • Cons: Can get really crowded

we had a great time!!! thank you guys!!!

by val03

last week a bunch of my girlfriends and I got together for a school reunion and decided to have it @ Belmont Lounge...

Great choice!!!

Our waitress was great and the music was just right...

One of the good things that Ive noticed was that they have an extensive food selection, not your typical bar food, and their wine selection is impressive. we went through 3 bottles.

someone there knows a thing or two about wine. as the night went on, after a few drinks we were able to dance to the groovy beats. and us smokers didnt have to deal with the bitter cold, we were able to escape into the back pattio. all in all we all recomend this place!!!

  • Pros: food selection/ ambience
  • Cons: none

In Response to UWSNYCGuy's Review of 12/14/08

by Dohan

Hi I'm the GM of Belmont Lounge and here what happened about that incident. This was on Saturday December 13th 2008, this gentleman's friend called few weeks before and made a reservation for his 40th birthday party. When the event coordinator made the reservation, he was promised a couch and a booth. On the set day, the birthday boy came in but without his friend that made the reservation. Upon request, I directed them towards the couch and the booth that was reserved for them, he turns around and tells me that he was guarantied all the 3 couches. mind you that in the whole venue there are only 3 big couches that seats 15 people each, also there was a party of 80 people that had on the same night booked the two remaining couches for a total of $2,500.00 in bottle service. So I told him that the other 2 couches were booked a month in advance and even showed him my reservation book where it says that only 1 couch and 1 booth were reserved for him. He refused and stated yelling and even went over to the other couches and ask the other customers to get of the couches, that is when I went over to him and told him that he could take his party somewhere else. Because to me that was a total disrespect for my establishment. Nowhere in NYC lounge or nightclub you can go and occupy all the major tables without a minimum tab or bottle and bottle commitment. We were even nice enough to give you 2 tables without any bottles or tab commitment. And by the way the comp bottle of Veuve yellow label, I'm the one that sent that to your table not a waitress because I felt that no one should get into an argument on the birthday eventough you were beeing totally disrecpectful to me, my staff , and our establishment. A waitress cannot comp a bottle without my approval. Please know that I do not like to disrespect other. I'm posting this so that people that read your review can read this one and judge for themselves.

Crowded but Fun (Kinda)

by ncaligrl35

Went to this place on a Sat. night with a bunch of girlfriends. The place was PACKED. They played really fun music, but there really wasn't any place to dance or enjoy it. They MAKE you check your coats at the door, which costs $$. The crowd was mixed -- a lot of very young girls and some sketchy older guys, but nothing you wouldn't find at most bars in union sq. The bartender Alec was HOT and awesome!!! We didn't really deal with any of the waitresses, but the bathroom line was absolutely ridiculously long, and stretched through the bar area, making it even more crowded. All in all, we had a pretty fun night. I wouldn't recommend this place over any other similar bar in the area though.

  • Pros: music, location
  • Cons: bathrooms, coatcheck

Awful, Poor Service, Yelling

by UWSNYCGuy

From start to finish, at least the Belmont Lounge is consistent. That consistency comes in the form of mismanagement, rudeness and an overall sense of the customer being taken for granted.

What was supposed to be a simple birthday celebration with 40 people and three reserved couches turned into one couch with bottle service (at this type of place- who are they kidding?) and a screaming match in the middle of the lounge. Totally unprofessional and a bad attitude.

The waitress comped us a bottle of champagne which was a nice gesture but it would have been a lot easier to just honor the original agreement.

I will also be consistent in the future and avoid this place for the rest of my life.

  • Pros: small outside area
  • Cons: everything else

If You are Around Union Square might be worth checking out...

by e02m12f22

I went to the Belmont Lounge several times about a year or so ago, and wanted to check it out again. I returned this past weekend and noticed that drinks were outrageously priced given this is really just a bar with a lounge area in the back $16 for a vodka tonic + bud light bottle :O The outdoor space makes this place kinda worth checking out and the general lounge area is nicely set up with cool round seating area and surrounded by curtains to give people some privacy. Things to watch out for are weekend nights, Irving Plaza after show crowds, and the general buffoons that hang around union square. I wouldnt plan a night around this place, but the outdoor space deserves some consideration especially on week days. The rest is rather forgetable. I didnt have any problems with the service.

best bday spot

by rockroll

i dont know if they changed staff or what, but i didnt experience any of the problems of the other ppl....The service ws hot, the food ws better than bar food, and the dj rocked it!! And all of this was on a lazy tuesday night! If you wanna go chill in a dark living room enviornment with the option to dance i suggest gathering some friends up and heading over there!!

  • Pros: great music and couches
  • Cons: not enough people

A standard for post-show, post-work, and post-sober mingling.

by Justine Goodman

In Short
Nestled between Irving Plaza and Union Square, this cozy, dimly lit bar toes the line between swanky meet market and well-worn party bar. In the early evening, a crowd of local professionals dominates the front bar, chatting over appetizers and cold beers; as night falls, a younger swarm of singles takes over the blue velvet couches in the back lounge, where a DJ churns out an endless string of crowd-pleasers, and slender cocktail waitresses traipse about, balancing trays of martinis.

Hits: A door policy that's just relaxed enough, without being a free-for-all, produces a good crowd and an even match-up of guys and girls.

Misses: It's hard to know what to expect--some nights, it's a packed house by 11pm; other nights, it may begin to thin out during what should be prime-time drinking hours.
