Better than Circle Line

by jcalotta

Took the family to enjoy a "Touristy" thing. Did the Circle line years ago, looked into Cirlce Line and NY Waterways -- and decided to "try these guys". The 90 minute tour was great. Boat was half Full -- all the Top Level seats went first. Beautiful sky. Once the Boat got underway they opened the front to passengers -- forget about the Top Level. As the trip went on passengers moved about and we all had seats of our choosing. Tour Guide was very personable and knowledgeable about the topics he spoke. We all thought the 90 minutes was "Just Right" - and I am glad I did not do the Circle Line 2 hour tour. Bathrooms were disgusting - but thats to be expected I guess. I used the bus they provide to get back into mid-town (saved some cab fare). On board concession stand was limited to beer, soda , water from a plastic cooler. Maybe they had packaged snacks - I didn't notice.

  • Pros: Duration, Buses, Tour Guide, Cost
  • Cons: Disgusting Bathrooms

An enjoyable way to see the city via its harbors and adjoining rivers.

by Contributor

Overview
Whether you're looking to sail over to the baseball game, cruise around the island, learn about nautical history or escape upstate, NY Waterway will provide you with informed transport via ferry services set against beautiful views of the city's skyline. Departures are available from New Jersey (Weehawken, Hoboken and Jersey City), Manhattan (World Financial Center, South Street Seaport and more) and Queens (Hunterspoint Terminal).

The Experience
The regular cruises have tell-all names like the Yankee Clipper and the Broadway Bound. Other boating adventures include trips to the North Hudson, the Rockefeller Estate, Sleepy Hollow and Tarrytown (via the ferry).

Too many tourists

by emmdub

Crowded, cramped, full of tourists. The tour guide was great, but with so many people on the boat clamoring for the best spot to take a picture from, it was not a lot of fun. But you do get to see more than you see from the Staten Island Ferry.

Cruisin'

by keremsheli

By far the best way to travel around the city. Plenty of room on the cities sleekest and cleanest fleet of tour boats. No crowds liek the Cirle Line and the FREE shuttle bus makes it the best sightseeing value in NY!

Great way to see Manhattan inexpensively. I am a native NYer and have taken it several times. I really loved the one that goes completely around Manhattan Island. It really reminds you that it is an Island. Gudes are really knowledgable

  • Pros: Seeing Sights

A Must For All Latin Music Lovers!!!

by HeavenScent

Escuchen Latinos, esto esta para gozar!!! I heard about a Music Cruise that NY Waterway offers with latin music and myself being the latin music lover that I am I jumped on the idea. I invited a few friends after work to happy hour on a Wednesday night. We all had a nice dinner but needed a change of atmosphere so I suggested the latin music cruise. We all agreed and found it to be very affordable at $17. So, we headed to NY Waterway's Latin Music Cruise. Upon boarding the music and atmosphere was great. The music played on board was the latest salsa hits, merengue hits, etc We danced, had a few drinks and made new friends all while enjoying the NYC skyline at night. It was totally breathtaking. Needless to say, we had the best time. I am definitely heading back there again with a few friends.

  • Pros: Great Latin Music, Inexpensive, Great Atmosphere

My family was visiting from California and have only been to this area two times. We decided to take a 90-minute cruise during the heatwave. It was such a great idea, our tour guide was very funny and it was refreshing to be on a boat that day.
