beautiful hotel

by glamourgirljoanne at Citysearch

We just spent this past Saturday night at the Michelangelo for my husband's 50th birthday. Unfortunately, we were not able to get an early check in (we had a bit of trouble reaching the concierge the week prior) but all was fine when we arrived. The lobby was quite lovely and the front desk was courteous. We were on the 7th floor and the room was spacious and clean (very important!). There was absolutely no view from our room. When we came back to our room after the show, the bed had been turned down but there were no chocolates on the pillow as I had heard there would be. Also, I was surprised that ice had not been placed in the ice bucket (better hotels usually provide this service). The bathroom was a nice size and the tub was quite large but a jacuzzi was really needed there. I loved the complimentary use of the robes and the toiletries were quite nice. The complimentary breakfast consisted of coffee, tea, cappucino and small pastries. Instead of sitting in the overcrowded (not to mention very noisy) lobby, opt to sit in the mezzanine above with small intimate tables for 2 with linen table cloths. Much nicer! All in all, I would definitely stay here again with adults, not children, as there isn't a pool or hot tub.

  • Pros: very accessible to theater district (stay away from the "tourist" restaurants
  • Cons: please bring back the dining room

Elegant, European-style surroundings with Midtown convenience.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
Throughout this hotel you'll find imported marble, 18th- and 19th-century art, period furnishings, carved panels and art-deco details. The lobby and small lobby bar could have been lifted directly from a hotel in Florence.

The Details
The spacious guest rooms carry through the modern Italian look with fine touches of glitz: pink and peach tones, rose-tinted mirrors and mood lighting. The marble bathrooms are furnished with mini-TVs and custom-fashioned Damigella toiletries. The very civilized restaurant, Limoncello, boasts fin-de-siecle wall murals, modern Italian light fixtures and windows overlooking 7th Avenue. It soothes with its attentive service and updated versions of Italian classics.

Nice location and nice concierge

by catman77382 at Citysearch

This place would be a five star if it was updated (new carpet, etc) and they opened the restaurant. It has been closed for a long long time and it is obvious they don't intend to ever open it again as it has been closed for a long long time and there is no work going in it. The room was very spacious and the bathrooms were nice with the largest tub you will get without paying $1K per night. The A/C you've seen mentioned in other posts is noticeable, but not really that bad a problem. They do need to learn how to tuck bottom sheets in though as they always came undone which is a pain to deal with. The decor is dated. With all that said though, I would recommend the place more so than most others I've stayed at including some high priced places on Central Park.

  • Pros: Service and room size
  • Cons: Needs new carpet and updating generally.

Beautiful oasis in the middle of the fas

by lizzy071062 at Citysearch

Beautiful oasis in the middle of the fast paced city. Quiet, peaceful (not like the marriot down the road, blech!) Rooms were clean, very spacious. Sheets were changed everyday, fresh robe everyday. Elevators were fast and weren't busy or crowded. The free breakfast was a joke though (I certainly wouldn't advertise such silly little thing)..the coffees were weak, and pastries were sparse and stale. The man in charge of the breakfast was SO rude and miserable!! The staff in general wasn't very friendly, we didn't have to interact with them much though. The hotel was really beautiful and calming after a tough day in the city.

  • Pros: beautiful, peaceful, clean
  • Cons: rude staff

After many years - still our favorite

by timquinn at Citysearch

We arrived at 11:00 expecting to leave our luggage and come back later to check in to the room but the room was ready and we got in right away - the staff was excellent and fulfilled every request we made. Since we got a deeply discounted room rate we didn't expect the penthouse suite (unlike some of the whiners who post in these ratings). As had been our experience on our previous 6 or 7 visits, the room was large, clean, quiet and comfortable with a large bathroom. Over the course of a long holiday weekend we spent several enjoyable hours at the lobby bar with the very personable and professional bartenders, Vittorio and Bernie. We will be back again soon.

  • Pros: large bathroom, friendly staff, location
  • Cons: inside room - no view

Breakfast buffet nazis

by jepes at Citysearch

I stayed here in early 2002 and found the room and setting to be great...although they neglected to tell us that the hotel facade was undergoing renovation and would be blocked by scaffolding.

More importantly, the touted breakfast bar was a total drag. The first morning they ran out of food way before the stated closing time. The second day they had food...but I learned that orange juice and all other drinks besides coffee were $5! On my last morning they physically stopped me from taking breakfast food back to my room, saying it was for my "safety." More like, they want you to pay for room service. Very nickle and dime attitude when you're spending $300 a nite.

  • Pros: Beautiful room
  • Cons: Bad staff attitude

Perfect!!

by rondax78 at Citysearch

Came for Valentines weekend with my fiance and it was just perfect. From all of the roaming around town, it was a central spot and not to mention so comfortable when you needed to slow down. The huge bath made for remarkable relaxation. Service was perfect, room always clean, beds turned down at night, with italian chocolates left on the pillows. Just loved it!!

  • Pros: Service, Price, comp. breakfast
  • Cons: Pricey
