This bar is right in my neighborhood and has become my regular spot! It has a really cool, lounge-like atmosphere, good cocktails and a decent menu. An ideal spot to relax over a few drinks with friends. The only downside is that they tend to close early during the week (i work in foreign markets and keep later hours), but Friday nights are a must here!

Went to "Under the Volcano" last week after work. What a bust. I may not be a NYC native (from a boring state) but I expected more... What's in a name? Pros: Midtown area, plenty of space at the bar and floor area. Excellent service. Malcolm Lowry. Cons: NO eruptions, molten lava, convergent tectonic plates, or sulfuric gases that I was aware of.

One of my favorite bars in NYC. An excellent selection of sipping Tequila combined with a very downtempo and sophisticated crowd.

Pros: Tequila selection, People, Service

Cons: Location, if you're not in Midtown already

This after work/neighborhood watering hole is one of the most comfortable places in midtown to relax after a long day. The young ladies who tend bar are beautiful, personable and efficient. Their skill at building margaritas is nothing short of spectacular. Everyone is truly made to feel welcome and I have heard several references comparing the friendliness to "Cheers" on TV.

Pros: Melanie, Renee, Allison

Cons: Not open 24/7

Wow! Wadda hangover! Who wudda guessed that there is as much to tequila as there is to beer? Hard, soft, light, smoky, you name it. This place has 'em all and is not above pouring you a little to let you try before you buy. A knowledgeable, bardendress , friendly atmosphere, and not over-crowded make this a nice mid-town visit. --Drink Club is a roving group of NYC drinkers

Pros: tequila selection, not loud, not crowded

I've been going to the volcano for years now and I still love it! It's got a nice chill mellow vibe and the music is always seems to be what I'm wanting to hear at the time. The music isn't that loud, so the corners are quiet enough to actually have a conversation. Even when it's packed (i.e. Thursdays and Fridays) you can still manage to get to the bar without having to weed your way through too much. Wait staff is friendly, drinks are nice and strong. Selection of Tequilas is quite impressive!

Pros: Rare tequilas, Decor, Music selection

Cons: No more pom 'ritas!

Cozy and romantic. Fantastic place for an after work drink. The atmosphere on Thrusdays are thrilling. The bartenders are the greatest and the service is prompt and courteous.

Pros: Atmosphere, Price, Rum and coke

Cons: Hidden Gem

A real gem and worth a visit, in the normally barren section between Koreatown and Murray Hill. The inconspicous sign will lead you into a nicely decor'd interior with couches and well lacquered wood. The orange-red painted walls depict lava (?) flow, perhaps, but it sets the tone for what is normally a laid-back relaxed crowd. Everyone's friendly, and the bartenders are great. Excellent service is what keeps me coming back, along with their expansive tequila selection. Most nights you can find a comfy couch for your group, but Thurs and Fri bring out the midtown crowds. Get there early for some elbow room.

Pros: Great Bartenders, Tequilla lovers

Cons: Finger food selection

UTV is, as noted by other reviewers, located in a not-hot-spot. Location is not a problem though, when you want a classy, sophistocated spot in which to sip your favorite rare Tequila. Comfy leather banquettes and stools encourage lounging, while the minimal noise level encourages conversation. NOT a meet-joint. Great for catching up with friends!

Pros: Tequila choices, Nice servers, Comfy atmosphere

An impressive array of tequilas pays tribute to Malcolm Lowry's classic novel.  See the full editorial review.
