Best kept secret in Midtown
by LA12 at Citysearch
Everything from the wait staff to the cuisine and the wine are top notch. My husband and I love to go for pre-theatre dinner, and we have never been disappointed. Definately recommend it.
- Pros: Excellent Seasonal Menu
- Cons: Small space, but it is Manhattan after all
great dinner

It's pricey but worth it especialy if you can manage to make this a "business" dinner. The service is amazing, wines are amazing, and the food amazing. The portions are a bit small and everything is generally overpriced but the whole package makes it a great dinning experience
Heavenly food, great service and ambience

We have been here twice now and could not be happier. The food is absolutely heavenly: sophisticated without being over the top or too complicated. We were swooning particularly over the scallops, venison and lamb, but all our selections were wonderful. Wine offerings made beautiful pairings, dessert did not disappoint, and I appreciated the fine selection of loose-leaf teas. Service was exactly right: friendly but not intrusive, knowledgeable and available. We like to sit in the bar area, which does not feel cramped. Decor is also just right. This is an intimate environment for a date or a couple of good friends, a marked contrast to Boulud's bustling Bistro Moderne a few doors down which is all expense-account diners. Triomphe is now our first choice for dinner in the Theater District.
Very romantic and amazing staff!

I proposed to my wife here back in Feb 2005 and the staff was amazing.
They helped with my plan and even allowed me to use the entire back room for the proposal.
Great food and great service!
- Pros: great service and food
- Cons: none
Truly outstanding cuisine coupled with discreet service and a casual environment
by gekko1982 at Citysearch
Truly amazing cuisine. While the menu may stick to "basics" the combinations are thoughtful and unique.
While the price rating ($$$$) may be somewhat accurate, there are many options within the price range and the wine list features MANY excellent, affordable wines.
Environment: Upon reading the menu, one might think the interior would be stuffy and uncomfortable - which is certainly NOT the case. The staff is non-intrusive and very accomodating. While the dining room has superior detailing (crown moldings, tiered cieling) fellow restaurant go-ers range from casual to formal.
- Pros: Excellent ambience, oustanding food, discrete service
- Cons: none
Unexpectedly great restaurant
by carlson_b at Citysearch
Small space, but very friendly - both the atmosphere and the staff. Some nice French wines on the list - even some reasonably priced older vintages. Scallops were very nice but the perfectly cooked ribeye with a phenomenal spinach-based sauce stole the show - probably one of the best steaks I have had in my life and a lot of food. Desserts were also good (though not superb) and the overall experience was top notch. I would definitely recommend Triomphe to anyone - and reservations don't appear too hard to get (at least during the week) so that's even better.
- Pros: Great food, friendly service, pretty good value
Theater-District Gem

What a lovely little restaurant. Small, but charming ambiance. Excellent service. Very good food. I've been here 6 times and will keep coming back whenever I'm in the neighborhood. I would like to see a little more variety in the menu, though. It doesn't change much, and could get boring if you visit often.
- Pros: Food, service, ambiance
- Cons: Menu variety
Such a nice staff.

I arrived there, and from the second I walked in the door the host, server and GM were nothing short of amazing. Being a young girl, you sometimes can get bad service, but they treated me like I was walking in there with an AMEX black card. The wine list was great and the cheese sampler was INCREDIBLE. We were checked up on often and got anything we asked for quickly. I def. reccomend.
- Pros: staff, wine list, cheese sampler
Good food, but too cramped
by jeanie95tt at Citysearch
We decided to try this place for our pre-theatre dinner because of the great reviews here and on other websites. The food was good, but we were disappointed at how small and cramped the space was. We were seated very close to other people, so the setting was not very romantic or intimate at all. If you're looking for romance, don't come here during peak times. Also, service was a bit slow, and we didn't have enough time to get dessert before having to leave for the 8pm show (we were seated at 6pm).
- Pros: Food, proximity to Theatre District
- Cons: Small, cramped space
Great choice for French.
by nybengoshim at Citysearch
Real value here. Several times to this stellar French venue in midtown. Signature dish scallops - silky mushroom deglaze, scallops themselves beautifully textured-pan-seared to crunchy perfection in beautiful contrast to the natural texture and juiciness of the scallop. Very artful. Muscovy duck-super ingredients and purity of flavor here. Attention to detail, integrity of natural flavors, and excellent service are the hallmarks here. Kudos to Zobel and staff! Not to mention the winelist - try a Nicholas Potel 2002 Burgundy for $36. Wow!
- Pros: Great value for price, wine list, intimate, attractive
