Never again! Not even you paid me!

by jsilver543

I stayted here one night. I wanted to create a romantic atmosphere for me and my wife. There are no words to describe what an awful experience it was. The hotel needs to be COMPLETELY renovated from top to bottom. There are terribl;e smells everywhere and the furniture inside is not even worthy of Ikea. And the walls are about as soundproof as a piece of paper. My view was of the building about 10 feet in fron tof us. Not worth 500$!!! Not even worth a penny!

Never, ever again. I have stayed in Motels better than this!

  • Pros: madison avenue
  • Cons: everything else plus smells bad and terrible (or no) views!

A style trailblazer with a hip clientele.

The Scene
This hotel, which opened originally in the early 1980s, has gotten a recent facelift. Hotel creator Ian Schrager re-enlisted the hotel's original designer, Andree Putman, to freshen up the rooms and public spaces. Putnam went to work with shades of taupe, camel and ivory and such nontraditional hotel fabrics as corduroys, silks and suedes.

The Details
Typical of most new boutiques, the 154 rooms are smallish--the idea being that you'll spend the bulk of your time in swanky bars and restaurants. But the compact spaces still manage to make room for suede window seats, club chairs and corduroy-covered ottomans. Photographs on the walls were commissioned from the late Robert Mapplethorpe. Stainless steel bathroom sinks are set against muted touches, from Japanese tile to glass mosaics from Venezia. Standard amenities include 27-inch TVs, VCRs, dual-line speaker phones (even in the bathroom), faxes and stocked mini bars. The duplex penthouse has a greenhouse, two terraces, kitchen and multimedia room.
