Fun place to party
by gripdxd
I went here for my boyfriend's birthday. We got there early and were able to snag some seats (we didn't have to buy a bottle). Music was great and progressively got louder (I didn't mind) some guests did. It started to fill up starting around 11P. I will note that their beer and wine selection is very poor. If you plan on drinking wine or beer, don't expect much (stick to the hard stuff). Good table service. I would go back again.
Great place. Highly recommended

Sugar knows how to run a bar. Unique, classy yet casual, outstanding food and beverage offerings at reasonable prices and an elegant space where you can relax and be comfortable. everything good working together to make it a truly exceptional experience. Great for large groups or an intimate evening for two. Perfection!
nice place for a party
by bakerbabe3
went with friends for my 30th birthday and had a blast. we had no problem getting everyone in at the door - the staff is great (friendly and fast bartenders) and the atmosphere is awesome - we started out in the main lounge and then headed to the downstairs for some late night dancing. the music was great and it seemed like everyone was enjoying the scene - we will definitely be back...
- Pros: easy door, friendly staff, music
I agree, never host a party at Sugar
by catmoose
Wow, that is crazy. The same thing happened to me. We booked an office party at Sugar and everyone re-arranged all of their plans so that they could attend...And, wouldn't you know it, they called and canceled on us after we had confirmed and re-confirmed with them. We had no where to go and were left with a homeless party. Certainly wouldn't advise anyone else use this place for any kind of group gathering.
Sugar certainly left a bitter taste in my mouth!
Don't host your party at Sugar!
by smileymcsmiley
I recently tried to host my office holiday party at Sugar. It took two weeks for them to officially book the reservation. I was about to give up when they called, gave me a date and told me if we had our dinner at 5:30pm they could accommodate us. I asked more than one that this was a definite confirmation since their reservation system seems kind of shady. I ensured that my entire office staff and their significant others would be free that night because it was the only day Sugar could do it. Then, five days before the party, Sugar called and cancelled! Apparently someone else, with a bigger party, had called to book it for the night, so they dropped us. Don't have your party at Sugar unless you have a backup plan for when they cancel on you!
Very Vegas, posh, expensive

The drinks here are $9, pretty typical, but the scene is young and hip.
Great place for a celebration
by abeen
We went to Sugar for my friend's going away party and I have to say, it was a great time. We didn't need to provide a guest list - just said my friend's name - and there was no cover charge. The staff was very friendly and they even gave my friend a couple of free drinks to help celebrate - he was definitely happy about that. I recommend this place for special occasions or even just a fun dance spot on a Saturday night.
- Pros: No Cover, Fun Dance Scene
Worst birthday experience
by michy623
My friend and I had planned a joint birthday party on June 23rd. We got in touch with the planner and everything seemed good to go. I made sure to ask the layout of the bar so I could be aware of the location of the dance floor (which was the most important for my friend and I). I got to the place and I was informed that the dance floor was closed for renovation. The planner had not mentioned that once. I understand that things happen, but the management of Sugar should inform their planner when big changes, such as the dance floor's renovation, are occuring. My friends came and everyone left very soon after. It got really crowded, there was nowhere to sit, and on top of that there was nowhere for them to dance. My friend, who was also celebrating her birthday, came with her friends. She walked inside and her friends were still outside. The bouncer did not believe they were there for her party and would not let them in. Please explain to me how they would know it was her birthday if they were not there FOR her birthday. My friend was getting drinks that were awfully made. When she asked for a more appropriate drink, she was given an attitude by the bartenders. The bouncer was also rude to my friend when she tried to find the bathroom. To say the least, my friend and I had a horrible birthday party.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Rude employees, poorly made drinks, lack of dance floor
Great food, parking and music
by tina2580
I had the best bday ever at sugar this past satur!! Theres incredible parking!! The farthest you would have to park is probably a block away! The decor is so pretty and the food is amazing!! The seared tuna and burgers were great!! Not to mention the mojitos were the best Ive ever had!!! Then we went downstairs and danced the night away. The DJ had a good mix from techno at first to bon jovi to prince to daddy yankee and nelly furtado..it was really great! Not overly crowded downstairs so there are no drinks spilling on you..Alot of fun, would def go again!! Theres no bottle fee to sit down in the lounge area either like how most other places in the city..So if I got tired from dancing I would take a little break and sit down without having awaitress hound on me that I cant sit there. AWESOME is all I have to say
- Pros: Music, Food and not overly crowded where you cant dance
- Cons: NONE
Enjoyable Night

I really enjoyed this place. The staff is friendly and the music is fun - good for dancing. The drinks are not overpriced like so many other places in NYC (great white cosmos) and I loved the projection screen on the back wall with classic movies playing - I will definitely be going back.
