DO NOT GO HERE - SCAM SCAM SCAM!!
by sb9382 at Citysearch
What best way to ruin your birthday but be scammed at a venue that isn't even that great? I had my birthday party here and had a horrible time. When i made the reservations, i asked if there would be dancing and music. I was told that people go there just for the music. Not so much. And the waiter - Brandon - was very very rude to me and my friends all night long. And then the bill came and he claimed we drank 12 bottles of alcohol. 12 bottles? And he put random charges, like beers and shots, on our tabs. We were there for bottle service and I saw 3 bottles the whole night. Where 3 bottles turned into 12, not sure. BUT THEY WILL SCAM YOU!!! TELL EVERYONE, APT IS A SCAM!!!!!!
Classic NY Hip Hop
by marisa 17 at Citysearch
People don't come here for a lot of drinks, people come here to see some of NY's well-known hip hop DJs and artists. From Premo, Scratch, Pete Rock and others, most people that come to APT are there for them.
The entrance is hidden and obscure but once you're in you feel like you're in an APT (apartment).
Downstairs usually has a cover after 10pm but if its a good DJ it's usually worth it. The crowd on Mondays and weekends is generally chill and there just to hear some good beats.
Check the website for special events
- Pros: DJ Premier, 2 Floors, Theme
- Cons: Drinks
Lame and dirty.
by PianistComposer at Citysearch
Downstairs, where they play music that's not quite as lame as the music upstairs, is just filthy. My friend stepped on gum, and I stepped on gum TWICE. The DJ couldn't keep a steady beat between changes and played stuff that was half a xylophone away from elevator music. And a $10 cover!?!? Puh-lease. There are plenty of clean, high-class clubs that don't charge anything at the door. The diner across the street played better music, and their DJ knew what he was doing. And it was cleaner.
- Pros: Upstairs is relatively nice.
- Cons: Downstairs is dirty and lame.
Call before you go!!

On June 15 my wife and I went to check out DJ Premier. We were super excited to check him out and when we got there at 11:00pm, the place was closed and locked up! There were a few disgruntled people hanging out around there so I asked them what was up and they said someone from APT came out and told them that they had to close for the night because the dishwasher broke! HUH!?!?! I suspect that there were other reasons they were closed - like a health code violation. The city has been crackin down on clubs but they don't want to let people know. We were so dumbfounded that they were closed that we called the number (still standing outside the door) and someone answered and said "We're closed. Come back tomorrow."! Like I was about to waste my time and money again! I actually got off of work to check out DJ Premier and took an hour train ride down to the meatpacking district!! So lame!! APT is so lame that they can't even post on their website or AT LEAST put a sign on the door saying they are closed - you have to ask people on the street what is up. I have been there about 5 times before and it was cool with great DJs but after this, I will never go there again. There are enough other places that are cool that care about their customers.
- Pros: ??
- Cons: Close unexpectedly
Absolutely LOVE IT!!! One of the BEST Club Experiences I Have Had in NYC!!
by Jessica1511 at Citysearch
I would reccomend going to this club on Wednesday nights!!! I know....its a week day for you people who work BUT it will be worth it BC everybody else in the club on a WED. is in the same situation and sacrifice the sleep for the GREAT MUSIC!!!! And its all bc of DJ Rich MEdina!!! I went this club with a friend who goes faithfully every Wed. and knows people who work at the club (maybe thats why I didnt have a problem at the door like others have had) but we got there particularly early...so i would suggest first timers to go early ....the first level is a nice spot to lounge and have a glass of wine with a group of friends you are trying to get to know better...BUT downstairs is definitely for the single people who want to dance and enjoy GREAT MUSIC....NEW...and CLASSIC hip hop to OLD SCHOOL songs like a track that your parents would listen to...like the original 'Juicy' .....not to mention a touch of Jill Scott....THe CROWD was a great mix of cute ladies from all races with a trendy yet casual style......you'll also see your average white boy to your European to your reggie lover to your classic 'dope' boy..overall, classy and chill crowd....It can get crowded down stairs but the MUSIC is sooo DOPE you wont even care...WEDNESDAY NIGHTS!!!! its worth it!!! I have gone to a few clubs in NYC but this was BY FAR the BEST CLUB EXPERIENCE I've had EVER!!! Key to having a good time ANYWHERE...find a GREAT DJ....and FOLLOW HIM where ever he spins!!! DJS make all the difference!!!!
Among The Worst In NYC
by seanrobbie at Citysearch
The neighborhood has many fun, new clubs and bars, however APT is not one of them. Firstly, APT has over the top security measures, which I appreciated at first, until a basic body and bag search turned into an inappropriate frisk, and accusations of criminal intent! They confiscated and would not return my spare cell phone battery, deeming it "dangerous"! Some guy, whom the bartender told me was a regular, rudely shoved me while heading to the bathroom. When he was urged to apologize, he touched me improperly. The drinks were sort of expensive (~$12), too. The bouncer told me cops came into the place to investigate something earlier, and I saw FDNY inside. This place isn't safe or fun, management and employees rude and unseasonable, and I have filed a formal complaint. I suggest you don't visit this place, especially when it's surrounded by many fine places.
- Pros: Neighborhood
- Cons: Everything (atmosphere, employees, value, etc.)
APT Best Place for a party
by acheval at Citysearch
I recently attended a friend's birthday party there. I had no problem getting in and the staff were very helpful. There was a great band tons of dancing and I had lots of fun. I recomend having a party there or a get together with friends. APT is moderately priced, considering the hood, tasty drinks, good music, and intimate place without all the hype. They also have great chocolate cake, it is real good with a glass of red wine.
- Pros: good place to meet friends or have a party
This old place still has it!

I looked into this spot to host my next social networking event! The members of NetMixer are held to a certain standard and APT has that. I will be hosting there regularly. check us out at Netmixer-events dot com
somehow it's still fun

After having partied myself almost to death during the earlier part of this decade I can't even stand to look down 27th street; APT is the only spot I visited then that still holds any charm for me now. Upstairs is still more of a lounge and less of a scene and downstairs people still dance. Nice. And the door is still drama-free.
The worse service of the city
by NMNY at Citysearch
Honestly the worse service of New York City.... 10$ cover aggressively required, rude staff, reservation cancelled... no need to tell you more
- Pros: no one
- Cons: service
LOVE IT!!

I have been going to APT for over 3 years & it's just getting better!
Although the area around it is changing for the worse APT still is a staple with great music and a stylish crowd.
I was surprised to read people commenting negatively about the staff, I've never had any issues with them myself. I highly recommend this place early evening for a date or to party till the wee hours.
