I miss chips!
by zaura at Citysearch
I went here as my son said it was pretty good.
must have been a bad day?
These were THE Worst Chips, i think i ever have had.
and being from London, Ive had loads of chips!
They were very dark in color, and tasted very poor !.
extremely overrated, and way overpriced for Potatoes!
even the vinegar tasted unlike UK.
worst tarter sauce too.
fish was bland,
to me $5.50 for chips is extortion
Don't waste your time, its a small poky place, doesn't even smell like a chippy!
i was so disappointed
the oil was old, cos chips should be light and golden, not dark and burned.
lets hope they improve..or that a greek or turkish guy opens one.
cos they really know how to produce the best..
- Pros: none
- Cons: awful

and to run out of fish.. amateur
- Pros: fish, when they have it
- Cons: chips, pies, 85 % of their menu

If you must
by wilowetree at Citysearch
Ok, so if you've seen it on Throwdown with Bobby Flay and it's peeked your interest and you want to try it, go ahead, I did. The place is very small with minimal room to sit. When you get out of there you'll smell like frying oil. The drinks are WAAAAYYYY over priced (and i'm talking about soda, not beer). The tartar sauce wasn't as good as they said it would be, it was too greasy and bland. The fish itself was cooked properly but I think they don't change the oil too often because there was a thick film of grease around it. All in all, and i'm very critical, it was just ok. It would be a lot better if they drained the fish before serving it to get some of the excess oil out of the batter.
First avoid Tea &Sympathy, then walk past this one

Just as bad as Tea & Sympathy. I would never have thought that was possible. Probably the same owner. That would explain things for sure.

One of the Worst Places To Eat in the Village
by NycErick at Citysearch
Run don't walk AWAY from this "food" establishment. Rude, obnoxious help in a small, smelly cramped environment makes Salt and Battery a place I no longer will visit. I guess Salt & Battery employees believe that customer service & food quality are not important here but it is definitely important to me.
- Pros: Cheap
- Cons: The food, the service & the place itself
Flavorless, But Fun
by nycinephile at Citysearch
Five members of Meetup[dot]com?s Thrifty Gourmets group and I field-tested this restaurant---essentially, a snack bar---on Tuesday, August 26th at 7:45 PM. It was staffed by a British-sounding counterman, who greeted us in a gruff but friendly fashion, and three or four other employees who prepared the food. The counterman took our orders quickly and called them out as soon as they were available to be picked up. They were prepared correctly and presented straightforwardly in baskets. I ordered a large and small portion of the fried cod, a small portion of chips and a canned Boddington?s ale. The fish itself was thick and meaty, but flavorless. Its coating was light, fresh and tasty, however. I needed to add salt in order to draw flavor out of the dish. The chips were mushy and also flavorless. I enjoyed exploring this restaurant with my associates and sampling fried treats, but didn?t think that my dinner was particularly good or a value. Large order+small order+chips+beer=$23.
- Pros: Friendly counterman; quick service; tasty coating on fish.
- Cons: Flavorless fish; mushy chips; below-average value.
Good and Fast

I heard of this place from Rachel Ray's review. Since my husband doesn't eat meat I thought this would be a great place to try. The atmosphere was just like an establishment we visited in Scotland. The fish was great we tried the traditional cod and also hammock. The french fries were the soft waffle type. Not the crisps we expected but good, not greasy. The workers were all friendly and helpful when asking directions to a bakery around the corner. We went on a Saturday evening and there was no crowd. Mind you it would only seat 6-8 people bar seating style. We were both happy with the experience would definitely recommend it to any fried fish lover.
- Pros: Price, Food, Service
- Cons: none
Worse seafood ever eaten
by ddeeff at Citysearch
As many others did My husband and I Saw the food network with the Bobby Flay showdown and we thought we would give it a try. We first went to an excellent Broadway play and then we took a nice long walk to expect one to have a wonderful seafood dinner. What a disappointment that was. We had Shrimp and haddock plus cole slaw and chips. The shrimp and haddock were very bland and the cole slaw was the worst I ever tasted. I love how they put on the menu that the chips are chips not french fries. I don't know where in the world they come from but they sure were french fries. Very soggy ones at that. I ate a few and threw the rest out. After eating a terriable meal we had to go and find another place to eat that's how bad it was. Please save your money and feet from having to walk to a place that is not at all what it claims to be.After going thru this it makes me wonder if the cooks on the Food Network are all they are cooked up to be. lOL
