worst hotel in nyc

the staff is realy rude and all the time ask for tip and the hotels room are too little and stink and the hotel its too crowded and the maid stole us money we left at our room

NIGHTMARE! Look the other way and keep on going.....

We stayed there Feb 13th for our Valentines this year and needless to say our holiday was ruined! The staff was so rude we wanted to leave before we even got into the room. If we hadn't scheduled the room through Expedia and would have lost all our money, we would have. Our room was paid for through our travel website and then they demanded a different credit card for "incidentals" than the one we paid for our room with. When we said we didn't have one, they refused to let us check in. We found out that part of the hotel was under renovation. Not the part we were in, we were in the old part. When at the front desk, they asked the guy next to us if he wanted a "renovated" room for an additional $70 bucks! For a renovated version of we were already getting!!! When we asked if we could have a renovated room, they said to call Expedia. So we did. Then the front desk said there were none available. Convenient!

Finally, through the manager we got into our room. I wish we hadn't. While walking to our room, we notice that the hallways were all in disrepair. Our room, a standard room, was one step above a section 8 motel. An old comforter that smelled, and the carpet was dirty. We asked for 2 towels and 2 additional pillows at 5pm in the evening. I never got them. I had to got take them from the maids cart that was sitting in the hallway all night at 2 am. When I checked out at 7 am the maid's cart with dirty linens was still sitting in the same place in the hallway. Also we NEVER got a Wi-Fi signal which would have been crucial if we would have been there for business.

Just don't bother staying there, unless you are looking for severe disapointment and substandard staying conditions...even if it was just for one night.

Average place-no surprises

Stayed there with a friend 2 years ago.

Good hotel, very old but clean, big room, never had a need for the service, it was more "in at midnight>sleep>out a 8-breakfast outside".

The beds are ok, noisy if you don't like the city (I'm from Paris so I'm used to it).

The Scene
Guests at this midtown lodging spin through the revolving doors to be greeted by high ceilings and huge chandeliers. When the property opened with 1,000 rooms in 1929, it was the biggest hotel in the world. Today, it's a luxurious landmark where tourists come to sleep and New Yorkers come to sip coffee at the in-lobby cafe, or eat at one of the two restaurants attached to the building.

The Details
This hotel offers a number of great services, some of which are only accessible to those staying in the more posh rooms on floors 38 through 40. But even without the in-room wireless Internet access and free breakfast that come with the pricier options, this place still offers plenty to keep guests satisfied. Cable TV, ironing boards and air-conditioning are among the usual set of services.

One of the Best

This was the second time we stayed at the New Yorker, first time was great, but had no view. This time we were pleasantly surprised with a great view of the Empire State, and Madison Square Garden. The room was very clean, and the maid service was excellent. All staff are very polite and couteous. My only gripe is that the shower wasn't very hot.

Very Nice

Loved it! From check in to check out the staff was nothing but excellent. The room was small, but it's New York, all hotel rooms are. Very clean, well done, definetly stay there again. Highly recommend.

No View if you're unlucky

We spent a week at the New Yorker in an excellent location. The only gripe I have is the view, which was of nothing but other rooms as we were put in an inside room, which was very disapointing for a hotel which sells itself on city views.

disappointed

I just came back form a business trip and was extremely disappointed with my hotel accommodations. The service was embarrassing - front desk service was rude, kept me on hold for longer than 5 minutes, and disconnected me twice.

I requested a hairdryer one night and one woman from housekeeping knocked on the door the next morning around 8:30 demanding it back?

After I checked out I had to check my bag and the bellmen tried to charge me again when I came to pick up the bag. (checkout is noon: 1:00 checkout = $35 anything later = $75) My billing is incorrect and there were a number of other things that went wrong.

For the same rates, there are a number of better hotels in the area with much better service and amenities. My only regret was not leaving after the first night.

New Yorker

If you're the kind of person for whom the hotel is a large part of your vacation - don't stay here.

If you're the kind of person for whom a hotel room is just somewhere to put your luggage, rest at night and take a shower as the rest of the time you'll be out - stay here.

I think as long as you know what you're getting, it's fine. It is well located and the staff friendly, if fraught. (I was checked into a room that already had people in it, which was actually quite funny, although the reception lady couldn't actually bring herself to apologize.)

The only BIG downside is the unbelievably paper thin walls. I've stayed in some dollar-a-night places in India and Africa, and in terms of wall-thickness this ranks WAY DOWN there with hovels in Delhi or Nairobi. For goodness sake - BRING EAR PLUGS!!!
