ok spot

arties is a good family spot, just about comparable to any other diner.
- Pros: good location, not crowded
- Cons: basic food menu
Great place for more-than-a-salad
by rhonburk at Citysearch
The pickles that they bring with the meal was incredible. I had walked the entire Central Park and was famished and ordered the sampler salad. I was stuffed and there was enough for me to take to my daughter. I enjoyed it and will return very soon! Great atmosphere and very vreative!
- Pros: Lots of food
- Cons: Customers from the area
Very good (not mind-blowing) deli eats
by sharopooks at Citysearch
My husband just referred to this place as ?Carnegie Deli?s stepchild? ? it?s not as tasty as Carnegie, but not as touristy or cramped either. And us uptowners dig the convenient UWS location! Your best bet would be the usual deli faves like sandwiches, potato knishes (the spinach is like a big spinach shotput, too much), blintzes, etc. (admittedly, the matzoh ball soup is decent but a bit bland, & better pierogis can be found elsewhere). Their menu offers numerous meal choices & humorously named catering packages (e.g. ?My Son?s Becoming a Doctor?). The knish puppy (a potato knish w/ a hot dog inside) is definitely worth trying once! Decent service here, it can vary. Overall, this place is a fun place to meet up w/ groups &/or family.
- Pros: Tasty deli faves, good space for groups
- Cons: The healthier choices here just don't seem as fun...
WHEN YOU WANT DELI ON THE UPPER WEST SIDE....
by wise1too at Citysearch
...this is the place to go. Its Corned Beef and Pastrami aren't up to par with Katz's but everything else surpasses. Friendly service and a nice clean setting make for an enjoyable deli experience. And as the 1986 Nathan's Hot Dog eating champion I reccomend the hot dogs!
Fabulous hotdogs & more!

Every time I visit NY, I make a beeline for this place. The service isn't always consistent, but i've never had a rude server. The first time I visited the manager talked my leg off! So friendly. The hot dogs are amazing in their snappy natural casing, the pastrami sandwiches are ENORMOUS!, and the pickles are great. On a recent visit I ordered a corned beef casserole from the specials menu. It was so big that it didn't appear that I had even eaten from it by the time I was full. I actually put my dinner in a to go box, took it to the airport, brought it on the plane with me(security thought it odd, but it wasn't a problem), and had 5 more meals out of it, after returning home! Mmmmmmm.....corned beef, onions, redskin potatoes, pickles, melted cheese, and this sour creamy, horseradishy dollop on top. It was divine. Caution: People on a strict diet, or fear of artery clogging should steer clear.
- Pros: Yummy food, good place for groups
- Cons: You'll be very tempted to forget your diet

Just OK

This place is ok...I went there because some people love it, but the food was below average and the service was awful...but sure... the pickles are good.
- Pros: pickles
- Cons: bad service, high prices
Soup and everything else
by halavais at Citysearch
Wow. Just wow. Definitely don't miss the soup. The cole slaw and pickles that arive right away are outstanding. All the food is well above par. The service is good; nothing to write home about, but they seem to stay on top of things. Even the iced tea is good. One of my favorites, and perfect for comfort food.
- Pros: Food, Soups, Price
- Cons: None
Comfort food at it's best
by cinemaniac at Citysearch
Artie's is perfect for providing a warm fulfilling dinner. I can help it but every time I go I must have the stuffed cabbage. The portions are enormous and there are always leftovers to take home for tomorrow's lunch. The servers seem to have been there forever and are very attentive. Food comes fast and the prices are right!
- Pros: Perfect comfort foods, great prices, staff
