Got my Jacket Stolen
by n7t7n
February 23, 2009
Went to get a drink on a Friday night. Left the jacket on the table and went to the bar. When I returned back to the table, the jacket was gone.
The manager did nothing. He was least interested. He seemed drunk too.
go here if you want your wallet stolen

i met a friend for dinner at this popular meathead district spot. during conversing with guest; the bus boy stole my wallet while clearing the table. i was not drinking and know that i did not imagine this. i reported it to the so called wannabe manager and for some reason; this was of no interest to him. he tried to tell me that i did not have a wallet and was making this entire story up. having grown up in the restaurant business; as my parents own several out on the east end, i realize that this is not the proper posture for the manager to take; given the circumstances. i finally got it; there is some t ype of theft thing going on in this place and management is in on it. so ladies, take note: IF YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR WALLET STOLEN, CASH, CREDIT CARDS, KEYS, ETC. and have no one care, go here-
- Pros: go here if you want your items stolen
- Cons: everything
Treated abusively by host and manager

I won't go back to Son Cubano because of the manager and the host. My wallet was stolen from our table. We saw it there before the dishes were cleared; it was gone immediately afterwards. I informed the waiter that maybe they took it with the dishes. He said all tables were filmed so they could check. The manager then came and said that our table was not filmed and that it was impossible that it was stolen from the table. He didn't want to check the trash. After urging him as it had a fair degree of cash, credit card, apartment keys, etc. - he finally did. He came back saying he found nothing, and that I could call the police. In the meantime the host became involved and informed me that they "can't find it because you never had it here." He smirked at me in my duress and was condescending. He also contradicted his colleague and stated that they in fact do have the film and no one took it...hmmm. Mind games - unfortunately, we were far from drunk. They both appeared angry AT ME. Asked to speak to the bus boy, the host said that they would never know who it was...the waiter contradicted him and said he knew who it was...hmmm again. Neither the manager nor host ever thought of saying, "Sorry, but if we find it we will call you." They never asked for nor wanted my contact information in the event that it showed up. The police came and the host and manager stated that I never had my wallet. How did they know??? Who goes out for dinner with no wallet, cash, credit cards, keys? They acted aggressively towards me; not at all professional. All the contradictions felt very shady and moreso the fact that host and the manager insisted I didn't have my wallet with me.
I am writing this as I am a believer in ethics. If one supports an establishment, the establishment should at a minimum be respectful. I mostly wanted my apartment key back - they couldn't even offer to take my contact information should it show up when they close. Unprofessional.
- Pros: chorizo
- Cons: staff
Way overpriced and treated terribly

Went there for dinner and a little dancing the other night. The menu was way overpriced and the food was nothing special. The worst part was the manager and the host. We were a party of five and they squeezed us into a four top to save a two top near by for other customers. The two top was empty the entire time and there was no apology for the poor accomodations - they just sent over another manager who made excuses to us but still no apology. Not worth the time or the trouble!
- Pros: None
- Cons: the poor treatment

I have been part of the Son Cubano crowd for quite awhile and love it! The live salsa band that plays nightly is amazing and the place makes some wonderful drinks! It is especially wonderful on a thursday night when it is less crowded. The dark candle lit tables are romantic and it just relaxes you after a long week. It is definitely overpriced but the food is delicious. For any drink on the menu made right request Rich and for an amazing watermelon martini go to Ronnie. The bartenders are great...at least to the ladies..lol. Definitely worth a visit!
- Pros: Great drinks, friendly efficient bartenders, great salsa band
- Cons: A little hot once dancing, overpriced
As good as it gets for Cuban in the Meatpacking District...

I went here a few weeks ago for dinner & dancing on a Thursday night for a friend's birthday. The rest of the party got there before me, but from what I understood we were seated pretty promptly considering the crowd & no reservations. Our table happened to be right in front of the live band which was a little annoying. We asked to move to the booth behind us, but were told that it was reserved. Strangely enough, those seats never got filled until WE finished dinner & were asked to move there so that our table could be removed from the "dance floor"... whatever. So, we ordered about 4 appetizers which were really just average, especially for the price & portion size. Then I had the bacalao as an entree which comes with a side of yucca & I have to say, it was perfect! I rarely eat everything on my plate, but there was nothing left when our table was cleared! The bill came to about $240 for 4 people, which I guess is average for the area. However, had I not enjoyed my food as much as I did (& the cute waiter), I probably would have felt robbed. The crowd is okay...I guess you could say it's a mix...the DJ played pretty good music, although he was kind of rude & not so hip to too many genres of Latin music, as I quickly discovered when attempting to make a request. While I don't anticipate becoming a regular, I'm sure I'll end up back there at some point, even if its just to salsa.
PS I don't recommend the Champagne Sangria (it tastes like perfume).
- Pros: Semi-authentic food & scene
- Cons: Price & seating arrangements

Went here on friday night for my birthday with 10 of my friends. I made the reservation earlier that same day. We were 20 minutes late. We were seated right away. Everyone enjoyed their food. I sampled half of my friends' plate and EVERYTHING was delicious and plenty. As for the drinks I had the mango mojito. 3 of my friends had the havana ice tea. And they didn't like it. The service was great. Our waiter was very attentive. The lounge part of the night was good too. The music was good and it got really crowded. One problem I had was that it got really hott in there. But then how could it not with all the bodies in there dancing non stop!!! That was my second time there and I am definitely going back.
P.S. Be prepared to spend money!! The food is expensive. With about 10 people the bill came up to $500.00
- Pros: very good food, good service, cool lounge after dinner
- Cons: expensive

i've been here a few times in a group of family and friend and once for a birthday dinner with my bf. Each time i've been here i've had a great time and no complaints. the food is good i ordered grilled chicken and my b/f ordered what is called "ropa vieja" it translates to old clothes but its just beef on top of white rice. Both were extremely delicious.we ordered one apetizer, 2 drinks (which were kinda small but its the city, right?) 2 meals and 2 desserts and it came out to about $100. w/o tip. We made reservations and got seated quickly, The ambience was great, the service great, and if u stay long enough, it converts into a lounge after clearing up all the tables. My b/f never really tried spaish food before and he loved this place. Its great for groups and romantic dinners altough the seats are kinda close. and food is not too over priced since the portions are resonable.
- Pros: nice place, good food & service
- Cons: none really
DO NOT ORDER DRINKS IN THIS PLACE!!!

If interested in good cuban food and nice cuban music, this is a good place but DO NOT BUY ALCHOHOLIC VEVERAGES!!!!!! They have a scam when it comes to the drinks...Is as if they are mixing water with tons of colored sugar- One can get diabeties after one of their drinks besides the fact that they are insulting your intelligence and sucking they money out of your pocket like a vacum cleaner without anything in return!....I have been to this place more than once because I like their food and thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt in regards to the cocktails...Now I am completly sure they are ripping people off. The last time I was there for my friend's birthday I kept ordering drinks till I ran out of money but still didn't felt the slightes buzz. I know myself and I know that I'm good with two drinks, maximum three. How come I had order more than six, plus a shot of "patron" and still felt as sober as I came in! They have a scam going on! My only suggestion is DON'T ORDER ANY DRINKS !!! BE SMART WITH YOUR MONEY! Ahh! one last thing, if you get a table, KNOW that they will rush you!!!!
- Pros: Good cuban food
- Cons: horrible cocktails and bad service...
