We couldn't get a reservation so we put out names down for Brunch and waited ONE HOUR at the bar. We kept checking with the hostess and finally she says "Oh..we called your name already." Shocked, I had been standing at the bar ONE FOOT from her for an hour, they quickly seated us right near the kitchen WHERE WE PROCEEDED TO GET BANGED IN OUR BACKS by waiters and guests. We hastily ordered. Waiter was nice, food very good. Hosts IDIOTS.

I always find citysearch reviews to be helpful so I thought I'd give my two cents. We made a reservation for a party of 8 for my birthday on Saturday night. We were seated promptly at a great table. Our server was fun and friendly. He and the bartender turned out to be the best part of the night. The food, everything from the bread to the main course, was decidedly bland. I ordered the organic roasted chicken with mashed potatoes. The chicken I make at home has more flavor. The potatoes were clearly from a box and has the consistency of pudding. I couldn't get enough salt. My boyfriend got the burger and fries. It was a hunk of tasteless meat on bread. I did get a massive piece of chocolate cake to share with the table that was very good, and they brought it out with a festive candle and sang. After dinner we moved to the bar and the bartender was an anomaly: attractive, welcoming and cordial. That's a difficult combination to find in trendier places. He accidentally made a mistake on our bill and comped my friend's drink to make amends. Overall it was a great experience, but go for the atmosphere and service, not for amazing food.

Pros: Service, drinks, atmosphere, chocolate cake

Cons: The menu

I went here for brunch with 3 girlfriends. We made reservations, so we did not have to wait at all (I would recommend doing so for Sunday brunc). Our waitress was polite and quick. We had our mimosa/bellinis, and she also brought out bread with strawberry butter - SO good. I ordered the creme brulee french toast (which I guess is now vanilla bean?) which was DELICIOUS! I would def go back here.

Pros: delicious food!

Cons: if you don't make a reservation, you may be up for a long wait

Jane is one of my favorite places. Even though I eat out quite often and am approaching (or maybe am already in) middle age, the best way to describe Jane is that I feel like a grown up when eat there. The decor is spare and tasteful and the tables are luxuriously far apart from one another (well, for New York City). The food is simple and delicious. The menu changes slightly for the seasons, but I have probably sampled all of it at this point and have never been disappointed. Well, I don't like the apple sausage they have at brunch. But that's the only thing. I usually go for dinner -- the filet mignon, the chicken, the risotto, and even the Jane Burger are all highly recommended. On Sundays, they offer select dinner items for a mere $12. The cocktails are expertly prepared, and they bring the shaker (with extra booze in it) along with your drink. The staff is generally young and attractive, but unexpectedly friendly and competent. If your party lingers, they will never rush you out to turn over the table (another NYC rarity!)

Pros: great food, ambience, and service

Cons: the chicken apple sausage at brunch is gross

I just went there for brunch and couldnt believe how horrible the service was. Our server would bring our new drinks but wouldn’t take the empty glasses away, so they were all piled up on the table. Then, we were all finished and our serverwas standing chatting with 3 servers and the bartender for 10 minutes at the bar counter. Two other tables were desperately trying to get their some attention and get the bill. The food was OK, but with all of the great choices in this city, there is no way I go back there.

Pros: Good Bloody Marys

Cons: Waitstaff awful

while dining at the jane this past weekend i experienced something that i am still in shock over. without the hostess realizing i can hear what she was saying, i listened as she over and over again spoke about many of the customers in the restaraunt. speaking of various customers weight, fashion style, and many other things. i could not believe what i was hearing. it was incredible. 15 year old girls have more common sense then this hostess. i will never be back nor will ever recomend anyone to dine here. food happens to be great which is a shame.

Came here as a tourist in Dec 07. We all enjoyed the meal, nice efficient service and overall a lovely restaurant to enjoy a relaxed dinner. I would recommend reservations as it gets very busy on the weekends.

Pros: Good food, nice service

Cons: None

I've been to Jane quite a few times, for brunch and dinners. I LOVE their pan seared tuna. It's served rare, and it's very tasty, better than most other restaurants w/in same price range/quality. Each time I go it's a struggle to figure out what to order because I want to eat everything! Their burger is excellent, and their fries are perfect. In addition, their scallops are also good, and their steak salad is great too. Recommended starters are calamari or market salad. Dessert's great with their generous slice of chocolate chocolate cake. It's definitely one of my fav restaurants in the city because it's pretty well rounded, great appetizers, entrees, desserts. Oh, and the service is usually pretty nice too. I've yet to run into a bad waiter/waitress here (knock on wood... seeing how wait staff can be a problem anywhere any time in NY). The only time our food was ever late during brunch, they apologized w/complimentary french toast. We were all too happy to accept. This place is great, it's causal and friendly but has just enough class. Definitely worth a try.

Pros: Great menu full of yummy foods to choose from

Cons: None!

This is a great neighborhood staple for American cuisine. Their appetizers are great (calamari is excellent) and they have a great burger. Not too many vegetarian options - two pasta options - but they are tasty. They have excellent deserts, and the service staff is always pleasant.

Pros: Good service, great desserts and brunch

Cons: Brunch is super busy; can be pricey

Food here is great! Toasted ricotta gnocchi is UNBELIEVABLE. Goat cheese flatbread also delicious. I normally get take-out, but I actually really like the atmosphere here as well. Only complaint - they only do take-out during the week, and no delivery in the evenings. If I want some of their food on a Sat or Sun, I need to actually eat at the restaurant. If they had daily take-out and/or delivery, I would order food from here more often.

Pros: Great selection, interesting dishes

Cons: No take-out or delivery on weekends
