Not that great. Disappointed
by CSMobileUser
I've been to several ethiopian restaurants in NYC and this is one that i was not happy about. The food itself is a little below average. Service is also Disappointing. Non Ethiopians may think this is great tasting food, but i speak for several ethiopians when i say that the food is mediocre. The place is soo small, the tables are placed soo close. Music is good .
This place is not to be missed..

This is one of the best finds in New York. It's so fun to eat here with a group of friends so you can sample the most from the delicious menu. They really know how to bring out the flavor of the food in season. I had the dabo my appetizer, which was really good. My main course was the beef , which was good, but wasn't one of the best dishes I've ever had. This place is not to be missed!
- Pros: food,ambiance
Best Ethiopian Restaurant in New York
by lblroberts
I love eating at exotic places. Queen of Sheba is the best Ethiopian Restaurant in New York. The spices they use are savory and tasty. I'm a vegitarian and sometimes I like to shake it up. Queen of Sheba really exited my taste buds. The scene is colorful and the music in the background makes you feel like you're somewhere other than New York. They sat me right away and the service was alright. Nice ambiance and 2 seconds away from Time Square. I came right after a play and I will come again. Cheers to Queen of Sheba Ethiopian Restaurant. I'd try the plate with an assortmant of different vegetarian meals like the garbanzo beans and the collard greens! Yummy. The spongy crepe is a little weird at first but goes great with the meal.
- Pros: Beats boring traditional tasting meals
- Cons: None that I can think of
Cheap, Excellent Food, Kind of Far
by wisebrain
Far from the subway but worth the wait. I suggest getting the two combo platters to split with a group of four.
- Pros: Cheap
- Cons: Crowded
Worse customer service I have ever had!
by akpakpakpakp
I made a reservation for a party of 8 for my birthday. The reservation we made was for 8:30pm. As we were headiing toward the restaurant at 8:15 I had a message from the restaurant that I missed saying that they were giving away our reservation b/c we were late. I called back immediately and said our reservation was for 8:30 but regardless we were 3 blocks away!. However, when I got there, they had already sat the other party and told me it was a 1 hour wait now. They claim someone called that day and changed the reservation to 8pm..and I know that was not true! We left and are never going back to a place with such rude service.
Nice experience but crepe too strong and stews a bit cold
by monkey0418
I ate in here like a month ago and found the food fun to eat by sharing different stews gathered in one plate with your friends and w/o any utensils. I always love trying different type of cuisine and Ethiopian was not in my list yet. Food was good but found it a bit cold. And for the crepe I am not sure if it was supposed to be that strong in vinaigrette flavor but I would have love to have a milder flavor that will not overpower the flavor of the stews. Service was ok, but i think i upset the waitress by cutting her off when she was trying to make a suggestion. And when I asked her about her suggestion again after saying sorry, she didnt care for much at that point. But overall it was still a good experience.
- Pros: Different type of food. fun to eat
- Cons: None
Great Ethiopian food
by sthompson14
Fresh, tasty and well-made. The only limitation is the size of the actual restaurant. It's small, so it gets packed quickly. You can end up standing outside.
- Pros: Great traditional food
- Cons: Too small and often too crowded.
Delish
by frazali
We really enjoy the food, but it seemed that they skimped on the portions tonight. The lentils and greens portion were about 1/3 the size that they normally are (we've been to Queen of Sheba about 5 times altogether).
Still enjoy the food - but maybe they realized that the portions that they were giving previously were too big?

The Scene
Queen of Sheba is classier than the average 10th Avenue storefront, with a full bar, ochre walls and caring, informed servers. A flamboyant mix of Broadway actor-types and African natives gather at the traditional African tables, which look like giant baskets planted on fireplugs.
The Food
The flavors of Ethiopian cuisine have no counterpart in American cooking: If you like spongy buckwheat pancakes, you'll flip for injera, the ubiquitous bread used to grab bites. Almost everything else is stewed in or spiked with berbere, a peppery, brick-colored paste. Timatim fitfit, a bread salad with tomatoes, is a fresh-tasting appetizer. Doro tips (chicken marinated and fried in spices) and tibs wot (berbere stewed beef) make for savory and tender entrees. Vegetarian dishes have one constant: mashed, spiced, room-temperature beans. Skip the Americanized desserts, but do wash down dinner with a malty Ethiopian beer.
African Cuisine at it's very best.

I am Glad I found this little place and I will be back for more.
This is a Quaint little hide away, the lighting, ambience, and very pleasant staff are more than enough to please even the most finicky customer. (which by the way I am the most finicky customer)
The food was excellent, I sampled a bit of everything since it was my first time there. My Girlfriend and I split a vegitarian platter and a meat platter. Between the two of them They had portions of about 14 items from the menu... so we really got our feet wet, so to speak.
I think I asked our waitress about 30 questions during the meal and she answered them all pleasantly, without even an ounce of attitude. I highly recommend the Queen of Sheeba, it is an excellent choice. A perfect place to set the tone for a romantic evening.
*****Other notes*****
1) You must try the ethiopian coffee, it was amazing.
2) It is very Quiet and romantic, no loud obnoxious music.
3) there is a full bar and a decent wine list, including ethiopian wines and beers.
4) you must read the little story about the queen of sheeba on the back of the menu.
- Pros: There are so manythe ambiencethe staff is totally amazing
- Cons: Well thier tradition is to eat with thier handsyou pick up the food with the breadusually in a traditional African place they would have a bowl of water in the middle to clean your hands. Here they did not.
