Nice Restaurantt

Great outdoor patio for those warmer NY nights..great place to take a date. We sat outside so i can't really say what the ambiance or decor was like inside, but i did see that they have a full bar. The food was delicious, but service was a little on the slow side, but i wasn't in a hurry so no big deal. The food pricing is what you would expect for any "nice" restaurant here in the city.I would recommend to anyone.
- Pros: food
- Cons: slow service
A little too pricey for what it actually is..

Ok, I was recommended J.G. Melon by one of my NY buddies, and he said it's "one of the best burgers ever". Yes, it was a pretty good, juicy burger, but $10? And starter salads are also $10? This is a little bit pricey for a small little burger joint that doesn't even have a good beer selection on tap...I say, go just once and see if you are willing to cough up the cash (which is all you can use, as they don't take credit cards). I personally won't be heading back, but also don't necessarily regret going in the first place...so, hence my score of Average...I would rather head to P.J. Clarke's instead (better beer selection, better burger, better prices, better atmosphere).
- Pros: Great burger and solid service.
- Cons: Pricey and at the end of the day, just not worth it.
Too pricey for a burger and fries
by swissmiss711 at Citysearch
After waiting nearly an hour to be seated (much longer than the host had told us) with our watered down drinks, we were squeezed into a corner table. The burgers were good, but the price made me cringe. The poor service and passable food definitely didn't fit the bill.
Can't Beat This Burger

Of all the choices for a great burger in the city, this is the top. The fries are phenomenal, too. Took my sister who was in from out of town and she said it was her best meal in the city.

Possibly Best Burger in NYC

I've heard great things about JG Melon but just became a believer yesterday. JG Melon has possibly the best burgers I have ever had in my entire life. I ordered a burger done medium with cheese and bacon. The ideal-sized delight arrived shortly after I ordered and it was delicious. The fries, which are sliced into little rounds are really good as well. Despite the hype, JG Melon burgers exceeded my expectations.
Best Burger in NYC, Hands Down
by cobraman332 at Citysearch
JG Melon serves the best burger in NYC, hands down. My mother and father used to eat there when they lived in Manhatan, and even my grandparents used to frequent the tiny restaurant/bar. JG Melon is a unique establishment and provides a unique experience. It feels 'old school' and that's because their food is just as delicious today as it was years ago (according to my late grandmother). The burgers are delicious (I get mine medium-rare... you should know that they tend to undercook burgers, which is okay for me), and the french fries are delictable (the round 'crinkle-cut' type). The bar is small and there isn't much room to hang out or walk around, but they sure know what they are doing otherwise. The decor inside the restaurant is kitschy and classic: paintings and other assorted artwork depicting various types of melon -- mostly watermelons of course. JG Melon is very inexpensive, too -- only $8 for a burger (a huge burger) and $6 for a huge order of fries (split the fries between 2 people). My roomates and I call ahead to place our order, then walk in and pick it up to avoid waiting for a table -- but the staff is always friendly and never obnoxious or pushy, even when it's crowded and crazy. One thing to remember is that JG Melon accepts CASH ONLY, so you can leave your credit cards at home. JG Melon's burgers are, without a doubt, up there with Jackson Hole, The Burger Joint (at the Park Meridian), and P.J. Clarke's in midtown and rival those restaurants for the best burger in Manhattan. If you've never tried JG Melon, you are missing out on one of the finest burgers you'll ever have.
- Pros: Amazing Burgers, Delicious Fries, So Inexpensive, Quick Meal
- Cons: Small Space, Cash Only
great burgers and bloodies!

Anyone who complains about Melons should just give up and go to a trendy place like corner bistro. If you dont get it dont go - the awesome guys who seat you are hilarious, and the waitresses are there to get your food to you quickly, not to cater and if you want a drink from the bartender - ask for one, dont just sit there with an empty glass.
im going tonight - getting a burger, fries and more then one bloody, they are, hands down, the best in town.
- Pros: Burgers, Bloodies, Boys
