Great fun - I'm takng my mom
by victorgrimes
Ignore the haters, they would hate the bread Jesus brought them from heaven. The staff is fun. The experience is fun. I am taking my 83 year old mother in a couple of weeks. Chicago girl - so I know it will be a big sell to NYC. I expect Doughnut Plant will help.
- Pros: Fun - good doughnuts
- Cons: A little hard to get to from midtown
Love it!

From what I've read here, it's sad to hear about the doughnuts and bad attitudes. When I went, his tres leches were superb, and I even got to spend some time chatting with Mark Israel who was nice and polite as can be. Wishing a good experience for those who visit!
Don't bother!

Saw this guy on throwdown with Bobby Flay and was so turned off at his bad attitude. What a giant baby! Dude, get over yourself! The place is dirty and the doughnuts are a dissapointment.
Doesn't Deserve the business
by KateNYC
The doughnuts are OK at best. This guy has a severe attitude problem and doesn't deserve loyal customers. His appearance on Bobby Flays Throwdown is a perfect example of how miserable he is.
Good for cake-type doughnuts
by IconofR
The yeast-type doughnuts are alright... it is not difficult to find a cheaper one that's as good. The cake-type doughnuts are amazing, and worth a trip. Especially blackout if you are a chocolate lover. I wonder how they make Blackout so moist, rich, cookie-crumbly with some hint of liquid chocolate WITHOUT using eggs! If you wanna know about my experience, the approximate price and see some pictures, visit iconofreflection.blogspot.c0m/2009/05/nycs-doughnut-plant.html
- Pros: transfat free, preservative free, no eggs/artificial flavour
- Cons: pricey, staff attitude
Not worth it anymore.

Revision: Staff is still rude, more so now. I regret spending so much money on this place over the years and referring people to it. I'm finally tired of the check out girls' attitude. She over charged me (again) and almost didn't give me 10 dollars back as my change and when I told her she had made a mistake (I was nicer about it than on this post) she rolled her eyes and sighed. The doughnuts are just OK now, nothing special. I'm very disappointed in this place and they raised the price of the doughnuts. Totally not worth it for almost 3 bucks a pop. Oh, and there is no cash register so if you do make the mistake of going, make sure you have time to sit there and calculate the amounts yourself or the house will keep more of your hard earned cash. And careful not to ask for a box unless you want to get more attitude from the morons they have working at checkout.
- Pros: nothing
- Cons: Costs more, VERY rude staff
This is just OK.

Ok, now I read the other reivews before I wrote this. Now lets not even consider dunkin donuts as a comparible donut. DD's is nothing but caulk with a little sugar. Anyway, I'm from Southern California and we have huge yeast, soft, fresh, and glazed just right donuts. I just everyone's glaze donuts to judge weather or not they can make a donut. That be said. They have a good variety. I got the Glaze, Tres Leche, and Organic Orange. I could not eat the tres leche (cake donut), and it was soaked with leche...like a the cake.. (I just can't do milk). The orange was good, and so was the glaze. NO DD's, not even close, but they are not like California at all. They are fresh (lite, but heavy at the same time) has that homemade feeling, warm, you can get a variety... They are OK, i would not go back, but i would eat them again.
- Pros: Fresh, Variety,
- Cons: Price
Doughnut Perfection!
by dizbuster319
The last time I was in New York, a friend who is familiar with my love of doughnuts recommended I try out this place. Now I have eaten a few (thousand) doughnuts in my time, all over the country, but never have I found anything better than this place. The guy at the counter was exceptionally friendly and helpful with his suggestions, and everything I tried was REALLY good, so much so that I made a couple of return trips while I was in town. The coconut glazed with coconut cream was my absolute favorite! If you love doughnuts as much as I do, you owe it to yourself to make the trek to 379 Grand Street.
- Pros: large, delicious doughnuts; excellent, friendly service
- Cons: none
Bad Attitude
by DebraJeanne
Haven't really tried the donuts. Probably won't. I think this guy was the worst I've ever seen on Bobby Flay's show. He had such a bad attitude. Doesn't he realize that Bobby wouldn't have picked him if he didn't think he was already the best? This is free press. Take advantage of it. OMG!!!! He blew it. His little sissy attitude lost him a lot of business, even if he doesn't want to admit it. Oh, and by the way....word of mouth advertisement goes a long way.
