Best cut and color

Prior to going to AKS I had gone to other top salons where they did bad highlights, couldn't figure out how to color my resistant grey hair, or made it to dark (hello Elvira!) J. Anthony at AKS saved me. As for my cut. Mika does the best layers. I am constantly complimented on my hair thanks to the team at AKS!!

• Cons: Junior Stylists often do the blowdry after service and they aren't as good.

Donna is a color GENIUS

To sum it up: Donna Hernandez is a genius. Seriously. Once she understands what you are looking for, she truly delivers. My highlights look fantastic! You cannot imagine how many people have asked me who does my color..... she's that good! But more than that, she is a fantastic person, and truly a pleasure to work with. she makes sure you are completely satisfied before you leave the salon, and is genuinely gracious. I cannot say enough good things. Suffice it to say, I am a customer for life. I have been to Rita Hazan, Salon Pasha, and Roy Teeluck but Donna's skill surpasses every other colorist i have seen, Highly recommend!

Great Salon/Great People

I have been going to Jay Anthony for color (blonde single process and highlights every couple of months) for about two or so years. He is just terrific at color, listens to what you want while making excellent suggestions of his own and is truly a great person and a pleasure to be with. You will be delighted with your results whether you are a blonde, brunette or redhead as I've seen great results on many different people and he has a large, loyal following. Making appointments well in advance is always recommended, but he will do his best to squeeze you in for a last minute must-do. Love cuts from Mika and Zhen, and nail/waxing/threading from Galena and Laura, too

If you're going to get color....get it from Donna!!

I've been coloring my hair for YEARS!!! I couldn't even tell you what my natural color looks like. But not until I met Donna do people think my hair color now is my natural. Its far from it! But Donna does such an amazing job with the vibrancy of the color and just the right shade that people have stopped me on the street! I constantly get asked "How did you get so lucky to have such a nice natural color". If only they knew. I highly recommend Donna! She's worth every penny and you WILL NOT be disappointed. Her assistants are always so nice and helpful as well, when she has them! I will never go to anyone else....not ever!

The Scene
Right in the midst of boutique central, this chic salon bustles with the sounds of prestige purse-carriers getting gorgeous. Small by Madison Avenue standards, AKS' 15 stations are housed in two rooms, both with floor to ceiling windows. The intimate space is beautifully appointed in a modern, minimalist style; even the rolled towels above the washing stations are works of art.

Salon Services
Cut, highlights and conditioning treatments with swank extra touches (like a bit of Thai massage while you get shampooed). Hot mittens and hot cream varieties are available, as well as silk nails and extensions. Waxing is performed in two small treatment rooms. Product aficionados will love the retail counter jam-packed with goodies like Dr. Dennis Gross MD Skincare, Phytologie and Terax.

I am by no means a groupie but when it comes to my hair care I am quite obsessive. Having arrived from vacationing in Europe and getting ready for the one party I must attend a year I called Frederic. What no Carolyn. ?No I don?t want someone else?. Yes there is a god after calling some of my close friends it comes to pass that she was whisked away by a competitor. Competitors gain Fredric?s loss. Bottom line the only thing better then the party was how my hair looked. You need look no further then Salon AKS

Donna Hernandez : Best Natural looking highlights for blondes

I have follwed Donna Hernandez from Frederick Fekkai to AKS..and been with her for years. My close friends don't think I get highlights which is a huge compliment, as Donna does highlights so well it looks like you are still the blonde you might have been when you were 10. The woman who cuts my hair is contsnatly AMAZED at how well they are done too...and god only knows how many heads of hair she sees a day.

Best Colorist And Stylist InThe City...Hands Down!

I've been a loyal client of Salon AKS for many years, and I must say that they are the best I've seen in the full service salon industry by far. In regards to the comment below, I couldn't disagree more! Maybe you were just having a BAD day. I have been seeing J Antony for years, and no one else comes close to performing his impeccable color services. The styling department is amazing as well. Mika is a fantastic stylist, she always suggests the best ways to style my difficult hair. One of the main reasons I continue to get my services done at Salon AKS is their helpful and friendly staff. I once had a few questions about specific services that I had received, and the Manager Rosemarie was more than happy to spend the extra time with me to make sure I was getting the best possible service and attention. From my experience she was absolutely attentive to my needs and concerns. I also almost always get my nails done every time I go back to the salon. Galina is fabulous, and her manicures last a very long time. I highly recommend Salon AKS and consider it to be a place where I know that I'm going to leave completely satisfied with the end result.

J. Antony BEST COLORIST BY FAR

I've been coloring my hair (blond) for the past 20 years and I have never been happier with a colorist like I am with J. Antony. I have been to some excellent colorists over the years, but J. Antony tops them all. The results are EXQUISITE every time. I feel very fortunate to have found him. I hope he never leaves NYC because I will have to follow him wherever he goes. It may sound cliche, but I've been waiting for someone like him all my life! On top of that., he's low-key and modest. With his talent he could easily be full of himself but he's not. He's a master at what he does. Literally - no exaggeration. Sometimes I want to just grab him and say "THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU J. Antony, for being such a color master!", but he'd probably think I was nuts if I did that, so I'm saying it here instead. He's simply amazing. And I'm an OCD perfectionist, so take my word for it. I don't say stuff like this unless I truly mean it.

Donna Hernandez is colorist of the century!

I honestly cannot even remember what is my natural color. But who needs natural when you have Donna Hernandez? Blonde, brunette, redhead, hi-lights, low-lights, you name it , Donna can do it all. You will ALWAYS walk out looking like a million bucks - with a glorious rich hue and shiny locks. Besides being the most accommodating polite human, she knows her stuff. There's no diva attitude, it's first class service all the way. I live outside NYC but make the journey to see Donna. I jokingly complain to my friends "if one more person compliments me on my hair today, I'll just scream". People stop me in bookstores, pharmacies on the street just to admire Donna's work. She's an artist and a true professional.
