Great lunch menu - totally worth taking your full lunch hour

by biggmakk64

I've passed by Deborah for years. Never paid attention to it. A friended insisted on having lunch there. I'm glad he did. Cozy, comfortable with great service. I had the Veggie Burger - the best I've ever had. Served on foccacia it was not the usual mashed-soy-grain-bomb that I usually end up getting. Totally original; not sure exactly what it was made from. Anyway, delicious with the chipotle mayo. Bass Ale on tap. Window seat. Perfect way to spend a weekday lunch. The prices aren't low but the portions are mighty. I cannot comment on the other things on the lunch menu but I'm sure they're pretty good.

  • Pros: Food, service, decor
  • Cons: small, not cheap

Don't Listen to the Haters. Go To Deborahs. You'll Love It.

by cpshade

I am surprised and a bit offended by the recent bad reviews for this, my favorite restaurant in the city. I guess the bright side is that it will keep some people away and keep Deborah the best kept secret in Manhattan. I have been there for Bruch, Lunch, and Dinner, and every time was fantastic. Brunch is a bit hurried, but that happens at all small brunch places worth eating at in NYC. This ain't IHOP or Denny's and they don't have tons of tables. The Mac and Cheese bests any other, and the Huevos Rancheros cannot be beat (or even found for that matter) anywhere else in the universe. BEST RESTAURANT EVER!

  • Pros: Tasty, unique food.
  • Cons: Busy at times

Great Chef! Best Personal Service!

by hammernet

Wonderful atmosphere, red, lush and warm feeling. Has an imaginative menu with lots to offer in the area of tasty flavor and all the breakfast/brunch dishes we were served came out looking so artistic, the presentation was unexpectedly well thoughtout. Healthy portions and healthy ingredients accompany an all-together satisifying dinning experience. Great place to take that special someone on a date!!

  • Pros: Romantic, inventive menu, healthy ingredients & poritions! Memorable staff!
  • Cons: on the smallish side, long narrow dining space (this could be a PRO too, very initimate feeling)

Fantastic Duck

by kyakkevin

This was the best duck dish on earth or in heaven. God himself bestowed perfection and my tastebuds encountered ecstasy; an org@sm of the mouth. Go to the this restaurant. Everything else was awesome too. Nice staff, cozy decor, good service and portions. Mac and cheese is good. Desserts were delightful. Don't listen to the stupid negative reviews. This place was definitely a gem. This is the only online review I have ever written and I've been to a lot of restaurants. Deborah is an inspiration.

Horrible brunch experience

by earizaga

I was impressed with the layout of the restaurant. They used their space efficiently enough so that no one feels like they are on top of one another. I had brunch there yesterday with some friends. The menu looked promising however, once we got our food it was not that great. I could have done the same at home and saved some money. Our waitress was the icing on the cake. She apologized to us for her laryngitis at the beginning. Then something must have upset her and we bared the brunt of her anger. She was RUDE. Once we got the check we were just talking and she must have needed the table. Instead of saying that, she truly asked 6 grown adults if we needed a calculator to figure out what each of us owed. Is she insane!!!!!!!! Anyway, its a poor reflection on the owner - Deborah who was very attentive and nice. I think they need to replace the waitress before i go back.

  • Pros: Nice set up
  • Cons: BAD Customer service

Great Date spot

by samanthalous

It?s a small place so reservations are a must. We went early evening in the middle of the week and had no trouble being seated although again we had reservations. I foolishly had the fish and chips and could not even finish half. It was comfort food and very heavy, not the place you want to go if you are so concerned about your waistline. Recommend saving room for desert because that is the best part for the Tiramisu Creme Brulee. Check out the website at www.deborahlifelovefood

Manic Depressive Dining Experience and Indigestibly Salty and Fatty Food

by luciejohnson

I have been to Deborah many times. It is consistently disappointing and stressful. The entire dining experience is determined by the moods of the major personalities on the scene. You never know if you will be ignored completely or met with friendliness, irritation, or outright hostility. The dishes are so salty that you wonder if the cooks are all chain smokers. The food is unbelievably rich which renders it exceedingly indigestible and you hope the chef won?t be angry this time if you use her bathroom.

If you take pleasure in being dominated and stymied by manic depressives and you enjoy exceedingly rich and salty food, then you might like Deborah.

Homey, friendly, unpretentious & delicious

by zax2000

A great neighborhood haunt that is as welcoming a place that a visitor can find in New York. The staff was terriffic and the menu was full of familiar favorites with twists and turns that promised to be surprising and satisfying at the same time. As a good frined of mine said: "If you see lamb, order it... it's a great indicator of how much they care about preperation." I would have preferred a leg of lamb as opposed to the chops (more meat, please), but the flavor was wonderful and the accompanying salad topped with goat cheese was a great addition... As for dessert, both the Nutella chocolate cake and the Dutch chocolate and Tahitian vanilla sundae sated our sugar cravings... I'll definitely have to go back and try more items on the menu.

Salty Food!

by futago

I went out with my friend last night to Deborah. We were so excited since I was reading great review of this place, however we were disappointed with the taste of the food. We ordered skirt stake and pork chop. It was very salty and saucy. The environment and the service was pretty nice but it wasnt all that to return again

Another great dinner

by nyisit

I have to disagree with the two previous reviewers - I took two friends from overseas yesterday night and we had a thoroughly great experience (as always so far when I went to Deborah's). Food was excellent (the lamb melted in my mouth), the service was very attentive and friendly. OK, the bill was delivered right when they served us the coffee but this is pretty normal here and they did not force us to pay right away and we chatted away for another 30 mins. I am going back for sure.

  • Pros: Food, Good value for money
  • Cons: Little narrow tables
