Clean, Quiet & Small

I stayed at Hotel Chandler last week for 3 nights during the week. The hotel was spotless and the staff was polite. The rooms were the smallest that I've ever experienced in New York so be prepared. I could not roll my bag into the room and had to lift it over the bed to the closet area due to tight space. The hotel offered no dining in the bar area but they do provide take-out menus for the surrounding neighborhood. No frill hotel, polite employees and clean. I'd reside again if my initial hotel preferred options were booked.

Comfortable but several blocks from subway

We tried this boutique hotel for a long weekend. Although it met our needs, we would probably not choose it again. Check-in was easy and the bellman very nice. The room was tiny and the bathroom was very small. It reminded me of a small cruise ship cabin with a good amount of drawer and closet space to unpack. It had been recently renovated and they havd maid service twice a day. They had nice linens and very large bath towels. The location is ok, but the subway is several blocks away. It was more expensive than I'd paid for a suite on Time's Square a couple of months before and the comfort and location weren't as good. It's a cute property but didn't meet our needs as well as other places we've stayed.

very cool for small parties

If you are not stuck up and don't have to be in the hippest place in the city this place is a way to go.

Especially if you want to get a lot of attention as a group. I booked my sister's party in here on a Saturday.

A few hotel guests walked in , but other than the place was ours.

The manager said that they get busy during the week more so than on the weekends.

It's small , I can't imagine they need more than 20 people for it to be packed.

They had a really good deal on bottles and the bartender made cosmos and other concoctions with vodka we bought withought charging us extra. The best thing is that the manager played my slide show presentation on a large plasma that I designed as a surprise for my sister.

I just had to save it on a disk. They don't have food but we ordered some sushi from next door.

That was not the most classy way to eat but it served it's purpose.

We got to talk and drink and afterwards we went to a more crowded place.

I will most likely start my birthday party in here as well.

great service, strong drinks,

I agreed with a friend of mine to meet at a hotel bar as they are quiet usually and nice for a chat with an old friend. Too bad my friend was an hour late. I pulled out a a book I had for my train ride and started to read.

The bartender and a couple of locals new what time it is. Time to introduce themselves and make me feel at home. They even bought me a couple of drinks. They were a little dissapointed when my old friend was a guy, but oh well. I was getting hungry , but they don't have a kitchen in there yet ( soon the bartender said )

but she let me pick from many menues she had and get my food delivered. Apparently they do that a lot.

They did have some complimentary cheeese and crackers, but that wasn't going to hold me for too long.

So the bartendeer ordered some food for me. Oh did I mention my cellphone died and the bartender charged it for me and called the order in from her phone. By the time my friend got there I forgot how annoyed I was with him and it didn't hurt to have a couple of cute guys buying me drinks before he even got there. But that's for my blog.

I just felt at home at this place and we ended up staying for a while.

Small, quiet, uncrowded, unaccommodating

The place is small. About 4 tables and a small bar. We were the only ones sitting at tables. A half-eaten platter of hard cheese and soda crackers sat in a corner. We helped ourselves.

When we entered, the waitress/bartendress was behind the bar discussing her ethnic heritage with a bunch of guys in ties. We waited at the table for a few minutes before I figured out that all ordering had to be from the bar. I walked over to order.

"Have a seat," said the bartendress, "I'll be right over." Eventually, she showed up.

We ordered a couple beers (nothing on tap). The only food available was a kind of cheese and humus platter with a freshly purchased tub of humus (grocery store price-tag still on it), and wrapped cheese (in individual portions) apparently left over from someone's airline trip. With the platter ($12, I think) came 2 pieces of lukewarm pita bread, cut into quarters.

As you can imagine, that pita went pretty fast. Ai asked for more pita.

"I'm sorry," said the waitress, "I only have pita for service with the platter. You can order another platter, but I can't give you more bread."

I explained that we didn't need all the cheese, and the tub of hummus was still half full.

"I only have enough pita to go with the orders," the waitress said to us and the rest of the empty bar. "I need it for everybody else."

As a compromise, she brought us crackers... the stale ones that had been out with the cheese when we came in. Ah well, have another beer. I will, thank you.

The place is quiet, small, and good for a rendezvous. Eat before you go there and nurse your booze. The "service" comes with a smile, but it makes you wonder what's behind it.... and oh yeah, the hotel must have changed hands, because it isn't the Marquis anymore.

Modest hotel bar nestled by Madison Square.

This revamped bar in the lobby of the Hotel Marquis is making a play for the after-work crowd in the strangely under-serviced Madison Square neighborhood. Pleasant-enough middle-aged couples in sweatshirts saunter down from their rooms and sink any pretense of this being a swank cocktail spot. The wine list is above average for a lobby bar and servers appear knowledgeable about what's in the cellar. Glasses start at $7, and mixed drinks at $8.

yummy cocktails

i came to relax after work with a couple of co-workers to this friendly bar few months ago. now it is my regular place to unwind. not only do they have yummy cocktails with fresh fruits of all sorts but they serve complimentary cheese and crackers. booths are very cozy and comforatble. the furniture looks different then on this picture. they must have changed it. they have belly dancer on fridays and cool loungie music.

if there order the blueberry potion. my favorite!
