was invited to be their hair model
it is free, so you know you shouldn't expect to get what you want, but it's worth it if you're looking to try something new
Yelena was the one who cut my hair, she's really good!
but once again, if you're looking for a specific haircut, pick a different place
- Pros: free haircut, fun people
- Cons: will cut your hair the way they want
Best Hair Salon Ever!
by Zenbowler
Toni & Guy on Madison is the best hair salon I have ever been to. On my first visit with James we immediately clicked. He is truly an artist and professional in every sense of the word and since he has been cutting my hair I receive compliments almost daily. My hair is not the easiest to cut and I have had some very bad experiences but none since going to James. Berry is in charge of my color and she too is an amazing artist. My hair has never looked better and I would never consider going anywhere else. I highly recommend this salon!
Allan's Client

I have been a client of Allan's for 10 years. He has moved to the Wonderland Beauty Parlor located at 418 W. 13th St. 212-524-2800 if anyone else is looking for him!

Don't hate on the mullet!
by amaz
I've been a hair model for this Toni and Guy for over a year and I've NEVER recieved so many compliments on my hair (which is a "mullet" style, thank you very much). People have stopped me on the street, in airports - random stylist have even asked to take pictures of my hair... People love my hair. It seems that no matter what T&G does, it always looks totally hot without being impractical. Not for the Plain Janes, T&G is ultra fashion-forward and insanely good at what they do.
- Pros: High-fashion hair
- Cons: Too fashionable for some
The staff wants you to know that YOU'RE NOT AS COOL AS THEY ARE
by bettyo70
I worked as a "hair model" for TG. These "haircutters" pretend to listen to you and what you want. In the end, these guys just give you the haircut THEY WANT to give you. All the "models" in my group ended up with some ugly mullet cut. We all looked like rejects of some 80s new-wave band, and I don't mean that in a good way!
Also the staff just acts like they are much cooler than you. No thanks! If I want a bad mullet, I can do it myself at home.
- Pros: I survived the TG experience!
- Cons: Staff that does not listen to you; ugly haircuts; cooler-than-thou attitude
London-based international salon offers full range of hair care and fashion-conscious styling.
by Contributor
In Short
The London-based company, founded by Italian brothers Toni and Guy Mascolo, is known for its fashion-forward designs that work equally well on the runway and the street. The only New York location for Toni & Guy doubles as a hair salon (Thursday through Saturday) and hair academy (Sunday through Wednesday). Only the international art director and creative director levels do cut and color, so prices run accordingly ($150 and up).
couldn't be happier
by mettaluna
I just got my hair cut here and every time i look in the mirror i am happier with it. in fact i registered with citysearch just to share my joy with everyone.
I went in as a model and it took AGES but it didn't cost a thing. i gave my stylist a few basic instructions but otherwise let him do what he thought would look good. i wear my hair short, and it has never been so versatile.
i disagree about the staff, btw. the colorists were really sweet and all the stylists very charming to me. but i could see how they get a little attitude, they're mostly all good looking and v fashionable, that kind of attitude. i didn't find anything particularly revolutionary about the styling, but my hair has never looked so good.
- Pros: free modeling cut and color!
- Cons: took a long time
Rude and Inexpercienced Staff
by gwendy
I have been many times at Toni and Guy in London but the NY salon is very different. In fact, it is not really a salon but a training center for new stylists. The salon accepts a few appointments but doesn't really have sufficient staff. I went in for a single process color and blowdry and had to wait at every stage of the process. The haircolor stayed on too long because the colorist was dealing with other matters (i.e., she disappeared for 30 minutes). When I asked that my hair be rinsed, I received very rude and inappropriate remarks. After that, my hair was blowdried very roughly and not the way I had asked. Tony and Guy may be great elsewhere but certainly not in NYC. The NY salon is charging high end prices but is treating you like you are a "model" for one of their training classes.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Rude , Rude, Rude
Great place if you want a mullet
by as525
I am really not sure what others are talking about giving these salon exceptional reviews. At TIGI claim to be creative and innovative and that your hair will be cut by the very best 'creative directors'. I have never had a worse and more expensive haircut. It looks like a mullet and my hair was so thinned out by adding too many messy layers. They did the exact same thing to my friend. My hair looks horrendous and definitely not worth $175. I have been to many exclusive and trendy salons and can tell you that for the quality you will receive at TIGI, you may as well get a $20 cut at Super Cuts.
- Cons: Value for $, Awful haircut
