Treat the body like a temple at the country's first national certified organic market.

In Short
Whole Foods is a vegetarian's dream grocery store, with a focus on natural and organic goods and a gargantuan selection of fruits, vegetables and vegan products. But carnivores won't feel neglected, as stores also boast a vast selection of top-quality meats, poultry and fish. Also expect fresh-baked goods, housewares, a floral department and a well-stocked vitamin and personal-product section. Deli offers hot and cold prepared foods and artisanal cheeses.

not your average market

by lotsanivanh

i recently went to whole foods for my first time and absolutely loved it. the selection is great and everything is very fresh. i purchased many different flavors of their specialty sausages and all of them are delicious. the checkout was very efficient too, which added to my satisfaction. told a friend in san francisco about how much i loved whole foods and apparently she already knew it was a great store because there is one there. i will definitely continue shopping here and highly recommend it to others.

  • Pros: fresh produce, great selection

Whole Paycheck

by syntheticamatrix

As a native Californian, I can vouch for the variety, quality and freshness of all the products, but our nickname for them was "whole paycheck". If they are the only ones offering something, then it's expensive. Other than that, they are actually reasonable, e.g. their whole bean coffee. I found their cashier lines to be fast and well-coordinated (maybe I was lucky?).

  • Pros: hard to find products, bulk herbs, fresh food
  • Cons: can be expensive

A giganto-normous happy-mart!

by DylanSiegler

Gourmet Garage, Balducci's, Dean and Deluca, beware! This place has your number, and they're undercutting it by more than a few dollars. If you're not turned off by allegations of non-union hiring practices, check out the lunch bar, the cheese section, and the amazing selection of mushrooms. Plus, store-brand bottled water is $.69!
