Idiotic Policy
by damrak10
The one time I walked in and inquired about selling, I was completely dismissed by the owner who told me if what I had was not D&G or Gucci then I should not waste her time. Kinda stupid. The stuff I have is very high end, Italian brands only sold in Europe. I was insulted and thought the policy was completely absurd. Why not even look at the stuff first?! Will definitely look to sell elsewhere.
The twilight zone of consignment!
by aliciaaa
Well, let's start by what is good at Fisch for the Hip: Sweeter than sweet staff, nice selection of designers; And then, let's go on with what's wrong... terribly wrong.
I have been a customer for a couple of years at that little store in Chelsea. Although prices don't always make sense, I got lucky a few times and got really good pieces. But is it really worth having to put up with the owner?
I always thought she was beyond rude and quite "special" but I always managed to avoid her and I had no idea of the level of insanity in that store until I became a consignor myself. The policy is just plain ridiculous: as opposed as any other consignment store, you are required to call once a month in a really specific and short window of time to check on your account and request a check.
It turns out to be a nightmare: phone call after phone call, you are being told the same frustrating answer: there is nothing the manager can do, only the owner is entitled to give out information on accounts and she will call you back within the next 2 days. At least, that's the theory.
Eventually, after 5 messages, an embarrassed staff and a month wait, the infamous owner is finally on the line. And then, you wish you actually never set a foot in that store: she will be barking at you like you are some kind of debt collector harassing her and then she will go on and on with the craziest excuses (and obviously lies) not to pay you for another 3 months! And if, out of frustration, you have the nerve to ask for your stuff back you will have to deal with her rambling like a maniac on how you should leave it there until next season: Uh! No, thanks!
- Pros: nice and helpful staff, good pieces
- Cons: the owner, the owner and... the owner!
You'll make some money selling at Fisch. You will NOT be treated well.
by DouglasZee
Here's the truth about Fisch: If you have expensive, high-end, current designer clothes, this is a decent place to sell because they do have a lot of customers. HOWEVER. Every other high-end consignment store in NYC will automatically mail you a check on a monthly basis. With Fisch, you have to call them repeatedly and ask for an update on your account. They make it as difficult as possible to get your money. Yes, some of the sales staff have raging superiority complexes. Yes, the owner would rather pet her dog than give you 5 minutes of her time. Yes, they'll hold the money they owe you for as long as they possibly can before returning it to you; they're disorganized; they lose things. It's typical of the shmatte business. Didn't you watch The Devil Wears Prada?
Very nice items but high prices!
by squirrelzach
I went today looking for a Birkin and expecting to pay a high price for it. I found one I liked however it was very used, needed cleaning and hardware replacement and it was priced only a few hundred dollars under retail. All of the items seemed to be priced higher than other consignments store however most of the clothing did look new and was worth the extra. The staff was VERY helpful and showed me everything I asked to see and more. They also offered to take my name and number and call me if any more Birkins in the size and color I wanted came in.
Best Place for Designer ware in NYC!!

Fisch for the hip is an amazing find! They have great clothes, handbags, shoes, etc and the staff is awesome. The owner is so helpful and will make sure she does her best to get you what you want. They even have a book in the store for you to request certain items. Clothes always look good and the prices are beyond perfection! Deff go check it out, you will be so glad you did!!!
- Pros: Staff, Clothing, Prices!!
- Cons: nothing at all

In Short
Upscale designer merchandise range from Gucci suits to Seven jeans. This consignment shop has a long list at the front of the store listing the items it will--and will not--accept. For example, you won't find anything with pleats, double breasted jackets or sweaters that aren't cashmere. You will, however, find designer jeans from Joe's and Citizens of Humanity, plus Prada shoes, at great prices.
For True Fashionistas Only!
by ladivanyc
This store isn't about looks, it's about quality merchandise! The interior might not be perfect, but if you're a true shopper who appreciates high end fashion, this place is for you....If, on the other hand, you don't have the cash or style, you should go elsewhere...The staff know their stuff (especially their Hermes), but don't usually bother showing $10,000 bags to people who just want to feel what it's like. BOTTOM LINE: Fisch is a fashionista's best kept secret, it'll keep you "Best Dressed", but it takes a fashionista to know it!!
- Pros: Great Merchandise, Hot Sales People!
- Cons: Pricey!
Worst service I ever had.....
by monkey426
I am more than disappoint. I brought PRADA brand new white bag I never used( which was a gift) in box with authenticate card. But unfortunately didn't sale. I went to pick up. What they gave me back was gray stain everywher and some pets (dog or cat) hair on it without box. I thought it was not mine. Shop staff said box was throw away. It looks like someone used it. No wonder they called me a day before I come to pick up, said I can donate to them for tax deduction. Im so regret not sale on e-bay. I hardly understand how they run the business without knowing how to maintain customers stuff. Worst service I ever had.
I would have been better off giveing my clothes to charity

I was excited by the prospect of selling some of my clothing and making some extra cash. Was I wrong!! No money and a crazy payment schedule, no prompt returned calls and when I did follow up on my items I was treated like s**t !! At least at the salvation army I get a tax deduction and a warm fuzzy feeling...Fisch for the hip left me nauseous.
- Pros: There is a great coffee shop down the street
- Cons: This place is a CON
A great find!
by sarigold
I stumbled upon this store the other day and couldn't be happier! I wanted to buy everything...they have great high end designer clothing at a fraction of the price! (Chanel, Dior, Kors, Gucci, etc) The salespeople are really helpful and sweet. I will definetely be going back.
- Pros: good finds, helpful staff
