Snotty staff

by christisaints

We were walking along Chelsea when we came across this store. Had to buzz the bell to let us in, which made the place more mysterious. A nice staff greeted us, and we went about our browsing. What a great collection they have from LV to Prada, Gucci, Louboutins! However, their items are pricey compared to other high-end consignment shops. Also, a snotty staff made it a little less comfortable.

Hidden Agenda/ Great Clothes

by STYLE NY

As a new consignor I wanted to check the reputation of this store. I was shocked to read such horrible reviews. I called the store concerned, maybe wanting my items back. The owner answered and told me that 2 reviews were retaliation from terminated consignors. One being the Cookie Thief a Monster as featured in the Post: Look it up!

The owner asked CITISEARCH to remove the one accusing her of criminal acts. She said CITISEARCH would not unless she met with the advertising department. Defamation to a business and false accusations are against the law.

Shame on CITISEARCH for not requesting proof.

I think it is wrong to allow someone to damage a reputation with false slander and it shows a lack of honor and integrity on Citisearch's part to audit reviews properly,

I suggest you find out for yourself. I think 20yrs. is a long time to own a store. She must be doing something right.

Fashion's Dirty Little secret

by JayPinot140

Let's be honest we all love this place but more than likely will only tell our closest friends who are not our size about it's existence. People buy and sell luxury cars and antiques all the time so why is it "Taboo" for clothing... Two words Perception of Value!

Regarding the poor reviews...This is NYC people stop being so sensitive. My experience so far has been nothing but positive. However if that changes you will be the first to hear.

the woman is insane!

by nativermont

I wish I had read all these reviews before consigning there. This person is so twisted, a real nutcase! Bottom line, if you wanna see some of your money ever, never consign there: AVOID!

New York's best consignment shop

by BethLee

Every time I pop into Fish, the girls and the owner are very helpful, and honest too. When I try on a dress that isn't flattering they tell it like it is. And, I am glad. Certain consignment shops that will remain nameless(think downtown), have a really bitchy staff and couldn't care less.

The last time I was Fishing, Taryn, the owner actually gave me one of her own pieces of clothing (for free), thinking it would be a flattering style for me and knew that I had already spent my cash.

I will be back, and soon!

  • Pros: The girls who work there are great and the owner is too!

You gotta meet the new guy.

by ChelseaGuy

This place has always had nice sales staff but the new guy is a treat! Delicious is a word that comes to mind. Do yourself a favor and go cruise through the men's section and say hello. Great prices, great selections and a friendly new face to greet you at the door.

  • Pros: Giulliano........ :)

Idiotic Policy

by damrak10

The one time I walked in and inquired about selling, I was completely dismissed by the owner who told me if what I had was not D&G or Gucci then I should not waste her time. Kinda stupid. The stuff I have is very high end, Italian brands only sold in Europe. I was insulted and thought the policy was completely absurd. Why not even look at the stuff first?! Will definitely look to sell elsewhere.

The twilight zone of consignment!

by aliciaaa

Well, let's start by what is good at Fisch for the Hip: Sweeter than sweet staff, nice selection of designers; And then, let's go on with what's wrong... terribly wrong.

I have been a customer for a couple of years at that little store in Chelsea. Although prices don't always make sense, I got lucky a few times and got really good pieces. But is it really worth having to put up with the owner?

I always thought she was beyond rude and quite "special" but I always managed to avoid her and I had no idea of the level of insanity in that store until I became a consignor myself. The policy is just plain ridiculous: as opposed as any other consignment store, you are required to call once a month in a really specific and short window of time to check on your account and request a check.

It turns out to be a nightmare: phone call after phone call, you are being told the same frustrating answer: there is nothing the manager can do, only the owner is entitled to give out information on accounts and she will call you back within the next 2 days. At least, that's the theory.

Eventually, after 5 messages, an embarrassed staff and a month wait, the infamous owner is finally on the line. And then, you wish you actually never set a foot in that store: she will be barking at you like you are some kind of debt collector harassing her and then she will go on and on with the craziest excuses (and obviously lies) not to pay you for another 3 months! And if, out of frustration, you have the nerve to ask for your stuff back you will have to deal with her rambling like a maniac on how you should leave it there until next season: Uh! No, thanks!

  • Pros: nice and helpful staff, good pieces
  • Cons: the owner, the owner and... the owner!

You'll make some money selling at Fisch. You will NOT be treated well.

by DouglasZee

Here's the truth about Fisch: If you have expensive, high-end, current designer clothes, this is a decent place to sell because they do have a lot of customers. HOWEVER. Every other high-end consignment store in NYC will automatically mail you a check on a monthly basis. With Fisch, you have to call them repeatedly and ask for an update on your account. They make it as difficult as possible to get your money. Yes, some of the sales staff have raging superiority complexes. Yes, the owner would rather pet her dog than give you 5 minutes of her time. Yes, they'll hold the money they owe you for as long as they possibly can before returning it to you; they're disorganized; they lose things. It's typical of the shmatte business. Didn't you watch The Devil Wears Prada?
