The extension to your living room.

I almost hate to recommend the Gaf to anyone else only because the quiet nights are getting fewer and farther between. The bar is exactly what you picture a real bar too look like, worn in. The bartenders are two young guys who grew up together somewhere upstate and now live above and run the bar. They're always real easy to talk to and rarely shoot you down when you ask them if they're in on a shot. Lots of locals but very little pretension, fair prices for the neighborhood.

• Pros: Dart board, buck hunter, beer bocce
• Cons: Needs more tail

Chilled atmosphere, great crowd, friendly service and good tunes.

gaf, now under new management, has proven itself to be the new upper east side pub with a nyc flare... open during the hours which matter... excellent service... a FANTASTIC in house brew... great crowd - locals and soho hipsters get along!
