Love the Ribs!
by Alycia284 at Citysearch
I love the ribs at this place. Went to another place on Park Ave that is supposed to be known for their ribs, but it doesn't compare to this place.
- Pros: Nice Setting
- Cons: Loud

So I went to Houstans because I heard the food was phenomenal! I had no idea that even better than the meal would be the service. My waitress was a lovely girl named Blaire who served me with a smile.... and then gave me a reach-around
- Pros: Hottest servers EVER!!!!
- Cons: they aren't naked

Best After Work Spot
by Bluesman0221 at Citysearch
I went to Houston's on Park Ave on a Tuesday after work. I pass there daily on the way downtown and it always looked as if the people are having a real nice time. Well they are ! , The ambiance / lighting / decor/seating is just right, I sat at the bar. The bartenders were professional, friendly and no matter how busy they were (and believe me for a Tuesday this place was packed) they made small talk and answered your questions with "No Attitude". I observed several couples enter the restaurant and the staff immediately acknowledged them , informed them of wait time , kept note where they were waiting at the bar (remember I said this place was packed) and informed them when their table was ready. Now that is service ! I will definitely make this one of my fave spots. Next time I will bring friends and have dinner because each plate I saw I wanted to taste something on it.
- Pros: Bar, Seating, Ambiance , Decor
- Cons: None
Unlike Any Other Chain!

You must try the Veggie Burger! They are simply remarkable and never fail to please. The seasonal vegetable selection is divine. Butternut squash salad is another of my favorites. There is occasionally a wait but the bar is very well staffed and usually brimming with interesting characters. The service is impeccable...servers really aim to please!
- Pros: Fresh, seasonal ingredients. VEGGIE BURGER!
- Cons: Without a reservation there is usually a wait.
Roomy banquettes and hefty portions typify this polished American grill that's popular for business deals and special occasions.

In Short
Burnished brass and stained wood complement roughly mortared brick and the occasional plant. Amid ubiquitous earth tones, corporate types and small parties (celebrating or simply living large) occupy deep booths done up in fine upholstery and lit from above by pin spotlights. Burgers, prime rib and steaks are the specialties of the house, but the menu also includes salmon, salads, pork chops and roasted chicken.
The Change!!!!!!!!!!!!!
by SouthernBell32 at Citysearch
All day @ work I was carving the New England Clam Chowder and my Hawiian Steak. Get to the restaurant and to my surprise the whole entire menu is change. I look at the waiter and ask him, "what happen to the menu." I was very disappointed but I still was able to get my steak. The T-Bone Steak is actually the Hawiian Steak they just change the name.
My visit
by Christian1012 at Citysearch
The other week I took my better half to Houston's on Park Ave, for a birthday dinner. When we sat I was met with some BIG changes!!! The name on the menu was different, a lot of the items were all different, some for the good and some for the bad!! I must admit, there was a lot of new items that sparked my interest. Because, if Houston's does ANYTHING, they do it nice, new, tasteful, and pleasing to the eye! I've been a die-hard fan of this restaurant since they first appeared in NY in '97 in Long Island. But back to my visit, we were sat immediately, and our waiter (Arthur) was professional and helpful. I had the prime rib and my guest had the ribs. They were both amazing. And to those Houston's regulars the spinach dip was awesome as usual. At the end of the meal the staff all came out and helped me embarrass my friend with a surprise dessert and song (cheesy, I know, but you've got to love it!!) Overall, it was a good time!!
Unexpected and unwelcome menu change

Houston's Club Salad is one of the best salads I've ever had, period -- fried chicken, avocado, bacon, assorted cheese, and that infamous buttermilk garlic dressing (the only thing that makes it a salad is the fact that comes on lettuce -- from a fat and calories perspective, it's probably as bad as the burger and fries). So imagine my friend's and my surprise when, after waiting patiently for a good long time (as we expected to do), we sat down to find out that it wasn't on the menu. We were informed that it was a question of "seasonal variety," and that the server thinks that they just switched it out for the summer (but she wasn't sure -- it might be gone for good, which would be just awful). First, this is the first time in the ten years I've been eating there that that item has disappeared from the menu. Second, the rationale didn't make much sense to us; the summer menu includes all of Houston's heavy dishes, including the red bean and rice soup, but they've yanked one of the salads? And a signature salad at that? They pushed the grilled chicken salad on us instead but it was a poor substitute; hopefully someone in management will figure out that this is a bonehead move straight out of the New Coke playbook and give us back the original Club Salad. We're going to call up the other Houston's to see if it's done the same thing. If Houston's menu were more extensive, this might be cool, but it's not, really, and that was really the only item on the menu that either of us liked, and my understanding (supported by our server's reaction) is that it's a very popular item in general, so this was bad news.
not the place it used to be...

me and my family used to come here every weekend and have a late lunch at the bar. always ordered the same thing, drank the same thing...even sat in the same spot at the bar. we got to know the bartenders over the years, being that same two people waited on us for about two or three years. we had become friendly with them and they made us feel very comfortable. when the bartender saw us walking down the stairs, she would put our drinks on the bar and automatically ring in our appatiser. it was great! unfortunately, this bartender left the company...and everything is different now. we still went a couple times hoping that we would still be treated well. not that the new bartenders would know what we drank and ate...but we expected them to at least be friendly. we have never had the same experience so we stopped going! the staff seemed too robotic...like they were afraid of doing something wrong. we never even saw the management smiling and they always seemed to be staring down all of their employees. now, it's pretty sad that we, as bar patrons noticed this. and it made for a very unpleasant experience. we will probably never go back in there. too bad.
- Pros: none anymore
- Cons: the staff just isn't the same
